Hit the beach on the Ocean golf course at Rio Mar Country Club in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- The magical moment that gives the Ocean Course at Rio Mar Country Club its name comes just around the corner from the 15th green.

Walled off by high-rise condos, the beachfront par-3 16th hole occupies 238 yards of valuable oceanfront property. This setting is why millions of snowbirds flock to the Caribbean every winter, to hear the waves and feel the breeze.

The Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa treats the 6,716-yard course, designed by George and Tom Fazio, like its signature play. It's better manicured and more playable than Greg Norman's River Course. A network of six ponds impacts at least 12 holes. The seventh hole, a 393-yard par 4, tumbles downhill to a peninsula green surrounded by water on three sides. The taste of the ocean later in the round feels rather fleeting, although the memories should linger.
