Down in College Station, new Texas A&M Campus Course does Aggie golfers proud

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Designed by Texas A&M alum Jeff Blume, the new 7,008-yard Campus Course at Texas A&M University is an upgrade in every way from the old golf course that had been there since 1952.

Blume, who has designed and redesigned several courses in the Houston area and beyond, patterned the new course after the classic early American golf courses of the Northeast.

Part of the design included 158 bunkers, four times what was there before, many of them clustered together. More than 200,000 cubic yards of dirt was moved to create elevated greens and fairways. Water hazards are no longer hidden and many of the holes play to the west with the scenery of the campus behind them. Add to that six inches of sandcapping in the fairways, Mini-Verde greens and Sterling Golf Management operating the course, means the Aggies have a campus course of which they can be most proud.
