Nice course, but pace of play/staff friendliness needs work
Course was in great shape. Cart staffer was a bit rude when making a simple (and needed) request for a cart key... They also allowed people to tee off the back or front at their choice which led to some slow play during the back when we didn't need to wait at all on the front.
Very slow play
It seemed the course was overbooked this day as there were up to 5 groups waiting on any given tee box. The course was in good shape (especially for mid-August) but was hard to appreciate it when it took 4 hours to play 9 holes. Would not recommend going to this course on a weekend.
The course was good, sadly GolfNow allowed us to book 18 holes at 8:30 am tee time, but bad communication between course and Golfnow and there was a 10am outting scheduled that day and they needed to clear the course by 10:30 which only permitted us to shoot 9. Sadly it was my 1st day off in 3 months not to mention my 50 Birthday. Our 18 was cancelled and we had to pay for 9, Still trying to figure out how to het my refund from GN!
excellent course
Fairways and greens are well managed and staffs are friendly.
Needs Help
Played this course several times over the years. Housing really messed it up as it used to be a pristine track of 27 holes. Cart paths. Hah like riding a wagon in the old west. Greens are in good shape but pin placements resemble goofy golf Course management needs help. They put new groups off back nine which delayed the round at least 30 minutes.
lots of carelessness
We came to play Briarwood on a Wednesday afternoon as a bit of a last resort in trying to find somewhere that would let us play 18. Wednesday is a big day for leagues for most courses my friends and I frequent, and that is no different at Briarwood. However (!), what sets Briarwood apart was their carelessness to not let us know about the league or to correctly update their tee sheet online/reservation system to reflect that we really had no ability to make the turn. They had no business even taking our reservation for 18. After a relatively normal pace front nine, We hit a wall on #11 with three groups on each hole throughout the entire back nine. The course was simply overbooked. Their carelessness was also evident by the fact that they couldn't bother to have play limited to carts on the path after the significant rainfall we've had. There were tire ruts in the middle of the fairway because of the mud which would be surprising if it didn't cause medium or long term damage to the turf. At $46 for layout and conditions, this is the worst value in golf I have encountered anywhere in the northern half of the state. I am sympathetic to the financial challenges of maintaining a course, but have never seen a more blatant example of counting dollars and not putting anything back into the course.
Great course. Challenging and a lot of fun. I will definitely go back.
Worth a round
Briarwood is a course I played for the first time. The starter was very helpful in getting me pointed in the right direction, but as for the groundskeepers I found that they were often in the way. On one hole in particular, they decided to change the flag as I was getting ready to hit an approach.
The course itself is well maintained and the layout challenging for an average player. Even with the frustrations I’d play Briarwood again.
Unfortunately bad
Not sure whom to blame but came to GolfNow and found a tee time that worked and booked it. When we arrived at the course they were unable to fulfill the 18 hole tee time requested because they had league play. They blamed GolfNow but either way the tee time shouldn’t have been made available if there were leagues. They let us play 9 but had we known we would have gone elsewhere. Course itself was in pretty good shape. I’ve played there plenty in the past and this might have been the most green I’ve seen it.
Slow leave even early
I teed off before seven am so I could squeeze in 18 holes before work. It still took over two hours to play the front because I had to wait for them to roll seven greens in front of me. I left on after the tenth hole because I got on the 11th tee box and saw a cart parked on the green and a worker doing a long project. I wish I had known to expect major course maintenance before I made the tee time.
