Prepare for frustration.
I recently played on the battlefields of The Vietnam War and they had better Tee boxes and Greens than Rock Ridge Golf course. This course does not have greens they just made a massive fairway and added some sod to make an illusion that they have greens. The Tee boxes are more beat up than Rihanna after a date with Chris Brown. They also ask for a $5 safety deposit for the Cart Key which I have never heard of before. The only positive I had about this course was that they have food delivery to you on the course which was reasonably priced.
johnnypataco-rock ridge
As a beginer and played twice this season(April) at Rock Ridge, it was an overall positive experience. From the course layout to it's friendly staff. The pace was constant and the ranger will maintain it through out. My group as well as my self will be seeing alot of Rock Ridge for this season. Thank you!
Don’t play here
Slow round. 5 hours. There are players all over the place. Had a lot of people hitting in our fairway to another hole.
Poor
People who worked the course, absolutely NO issue w/ them. Polite & present. I DO have an issue w/ the course not providing any info to consumers regarding the overall appearance & shape of the course. The greens were like putting on bad fairways that had recently been aerated. The fairways missing large swaths of grass. The round itself took just under 5hrs 30mins. I paid $65 for this round. Never written a review for a course in my life, this is my first. Felt compelled to do so. Just an awful experience. I would play on a broken simulator before coming back here.
The entire fairway is submerged in water, and the green is completely neglected.
Needs a lot of work
Staff was very friendly. Greens were awful, fairways had a lot of standing water. Spoke with the starter who told me that the news owners are investing in the course. I hope so soon because a bad reputation will result in no one playing there. I always like to give a course a second chance but I will wait until they fix all their issues before considering playing again.
Great staff/course layout
Great layout and staff was terrific. They’re currently working on the course which is great. Can’t wait to see what they do
Getting better
I play this course a few times a year being that I’m a local. Last year it was in really rough shape due to it being run into the ground by the previous owners. Since the Rocco family bought the place back I have noticed a ton of improvements. The Clubhouse has given the pub area a much needed facelift, the tee boxes were re-sodded and the greens are a little bit better(although they still need work). Now the layout. There is a ton of potential for this layout. You have a lot of open holes down in the valley and some narrow ones on the ridge. This place is definitely on the rise and you can see all the work that they are putting in to get this place ready. They even hired a new head groundskeeper. The staff is super friendly as well.
Only tee time I could get on the first warm and sunny day of they year
The place was mobbed. I teed off 50 minutes after my scheduled time.
The course was extremely wet after the previous day's rain - standing water on many fairways. Early season greens were in poor shape. The pace of play was very slow. It took nearly 3 hours to play the front nine.
Fun atmosphere. Everybody knew everybody. I almost felt like I was crashing a party.
The drink cart was doing a land office business!
I'll try again later in the season when the course is drier and the crowds are smaller.
I went as a single and was paired with three young guys who couldn't have been nicer to an old man.
Needs lots of TLC
Although it's early on the season this golf course has seen better days.
Some fairways are in bad shape with bold spots abd poor drainage.
Pace of play was a tad slow, but it was the first weekend it hit above 80 degrees so can’t fault the course for that.
Fairway and Tee box conditions were fair, a bit dry and hard at places but other parts were getting some work done so at least they’re on top of it.
Great amenities with:
Pro shop, Bar & Grill, practice green, beverage carts, great views and course layout in my opinion
Only thing I would change would be maybe add a Port-A-John or two throughout the course, clubhouse is the only bathroom when I played there
Other then that, great value for $55/each and will definitely visit again
Needs a few more weeks
Staff were great! Course must have had a tough winter. Greens very bumpy! Lots of cleanup work going on and needs it. Lots of young people out there that have never had golf etiquette training.
