Great golf experience
My friends and I came to Florida to feed our golf addiction and escape Canadian winter. 22 rounds in 12 days. We played a couple of courses for a few days, then came to Metro West. What a great experience. We initially planed to play a few rounds here but will continue to tee it up until we have to fly back to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The course is in great shape. Terrific greens. A lay out for everyone. You can play it safe or go for the risk reward. The fairways are in great shape. You'll not meet a friendlier staff anywhere. I hope to come back often. I'd trade my snow shovel for a Metro West sand rake any time.
Mostly Mis-Managed
Metrowest is our home course. We haven't played there for years, as it wasn't in very good shape. But, we played yesterday and were pleasantly suprised with the greens, bunkers, and pace. Unfortunately, the course is mis-managed from all other aspects. No one rakes the tee boxes, trash everywhere around the bathrooms (which are gross), every single divot container was empty, and even the bathrooms inside hadn't been cleaned. To us, these are all things that can/should be taken care of regardless. With a new management team who paid attention to details, our course could be back to where it was when Marriott had it years ago.
What an amazing surprise
Went after the rain and the course was almost instantly dry. Great drainage. The clubhouse was clean and the staff was absolutely top notch. Starter gave us great advice and they kept pace of play. Greens were in really great condition. I can’t wait to go back.
Good day of golf
Enjoyed the course layout. Looks long of the white tees for a senior (6100 yds)on the scorecard but many fairways have slope that run towards the green which lets the ball roll.
Will definitely play again .
Staff were friendly and when the clubhouse/ pro shop etc are back working 100% will improve the look and feel of the club.
However encountered 3 distinct groups of local residents on the course. 6 teenagers playing football on the 11th fairway and would not stop to let us play through. Eventually hit my drive way right to avoid them. Large group (15 to 20) very young children and their mothers having a picnic in the “rough” on the 14th fairway . Teenager on his cell phone on the green at 13 and finally lady training at ghe tee box on 13.
Very OverPriced/Great Layout/Amazing Staff
So I was trying to find a local course to play when my son and wife go to Universal as I’m not a ride person. Pro Shop attendant was not very personable and offered very little conversation when I attempted to talk to him. He told me the course was VERY BUSY, even though we hardly ever saw other people on the course and we played in under 3 hours. The lady in the bar/grill was very nice and the food was really good. The valet/club staff outside was very friendly as well.
The course layout was very creative and always left you guessing. The problem with that for me was the Golf Shot GPS was not very helpful as far as designating trouble. The back nine was more in front of you so you always knew what you had. The greens were not in good shape and appeared to have been sanded recently. There was no mention of this when booking the tee time or checking in. The fairways were decent but still very spotty. If you missed a fairway even slightly you were hitting off dirt. I will say that this wasn’t the entire course condition, but probably about 12-15 holes. The routing was also not very easy to follow as twice we got lost.
So I guess I’m spoiled living in the Jacksonville area, as I pay less that I did at MetroWest to play amazing courses in amazing shape all the time. I may give them one more shot if I can’t find anything else comparable.
Nice, open layout.
Great golf course with some subtle elevation changes. It's good to see MW in the best shape it's been in years. There's grass on most of the course. The bunkers are edged and have good sand that's raked. The greens have always been in good shape with a true roll,
The clubhouse area is a bit ragged, but you aren't playing off that.
Good greens are a must!
Tee boxes and fairways didn’t look great but they played just fine… greens MOST IMPORTANTLY rolled (even still after having a recent treatment)! They were CONSISTENT and TRUE. I’ve visited in the March season from up north the last 2 years looking for just one thing… a course that’s challenging with greens that can get me ready for the season. I paid 3x at other big name courses, MetroWest greens were the best both times by far. Driving range was fine if you’re not high maintenance… no real place to practice chipping… but I’m playing Metro every year! Not just a good price point, literally the best greens to play at all the public options around.
Seemed like they were really putting an effort into improving the course over the past year or two. Last few times I’ve been out in recent months tee boxes and fairways in very rough shape, grass seems cut way to thin and non existent in other spots. Greens are about the only highlight left from that past improvement effort.
Starter was very nice.
I had a ride along. Prior to the round, I called and asked if that was permitted. It was explained that if the 'group' I was playing with had 1 or 3 players, there would be no fee. If 2 or 4 there would be a fee. The club house said they had paired me with someone and that there would be a $50 fee for the extra cart used by the ride along. When I got to the 1st tee, the starter said I was going as a single. They lied to charge and extra $50. I admit, I was disgusted by this behavior and it likely jaded my rating of the course.
Awesome staff
Played Sunday morning with my son. Welcomed at the bag drop with a smile 😃. Clubhouse was a breeze for check in. The starter was probably the best and most informative I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I didn't get a chance for post round beer because of wife commitments, but I will definitely play again this week!
I agree.
If you read the other reviews I thing those people are hard to please
I'm from Nova Scotia and would play here everyday. Easy course as I'm a 7-8 handicap k
