About

Par 71

Cassel Hills Golf Course is situated just north of Dayton in Vandalia. The layout features two distinct nines with the first being a relatively flat, links-style design, while the back nine is much hillier. With five par 3s and a few different changes in elevation, the course plays longer than the 6,655 yards indicated on the scorecard. The hilliness also guarantees that there will be a few tricky blind shots. Golfers will want to have their short game skills ready when they play this golf course. The massive greens, which average about 6,000 square feet, will make you think carefully about not only the best club to use but also the best strategy for tackling it. Cassel Hills G.C. also boasts some of the best greens in the Miami Valley.

Always my “go to” course…

Full disclosure. I am a resident of Vandalia and have been fortunate to play at every public and private course in the Miami Valley and some of the great courses across the country. This course offers tremendous value. The greens are always true and fast for a muni. The only downside is there is no full driving range but a great practice green and a separate short game area are available. If it were me I’d re-route the course to incorporate the the two distinctly different nines for a more consistent layout and eliminate the back to back dog leg lefts #11 & #12 and blow up and build a new #16 (blind, up hill par 3) and scrape away the woods on #17 & #18 for an incredible view of the valley below but doing so would dramatically increase my (with cart) fee of $31 so I’ll be careful what I wish for. Best holes in my view are #2, #5, #8, #11, #14, #17.

Great Course

This is a beautiful course with rolling terrain and tree lined fairways. The back nine runs through a nature preserve. It poses somewhat of a challenge from tee to green, but If you are hitting the ball well you can score. The greens are relatively large and always roll well. This is one of the best tracks you can play in the entire Dayton region! Trust me it’s a must play for any golfer that plays on a regular basis. I entered a review of this course a couple of years ago and I’m adding a second now hoping to get this course to pop up in the highest rated courses. (Minimum 10 reviews.)

Scenic and challenging.

The front nine is relatively flat with tree lined fairways. The back nine goes down into a valley surrounded by a nature preserve. I've seen plenty of wild life through the years, red foxes, deer, wild turkeys, hawks etc... I think it's the among the best tracks you will find in the entire Dayton area. The course is challenging and rewarding if your hitting well. The greens are relatively large and receptive and always roll well.

Nice Track

First time playing, rolling fairways and greens. Course was in good condition. Took the whole front to get used to the course. Well worth it. Shot 42 on the front and 36 on the back. But... got lucky on the back because if I really knew the course I wouldn't have been pulling out Driver. Very tight on the back... worth the views!

I'd say this is very much worth the money and travel time to get there.

Scenic and Beautiful

The course was in really nice condition. The layout was really different (in a good way) than most of the courses in the area. Tee boxes in good shape and the Greens ran true. I shot a 42 on the front. It took some time to get use to the course. Then I shot a 36 on the back with two birdies on the par 5's. BUT!!! If I new the course I would not have been pulling driver out on the back nine like I did. I got very lucky!!! That back nine is really challenging and eve scary if you know it.

A very scenic and beautiful course.

No better than this

I've played every golf course within 50 miles of this one including all the country clubs and this by far is the best choice for the money. The 1st nine holes are flat and easily walkable, the last 9 holes are walkable but will give you a workout. I suggest walking the front and riding the back. There are no cookie cutter holes on this course and no two holes look the same. The front 9 allows you to spray the ball a little bit and often get away with it but by the time you get to the back side you better be warmed up and hitting it straight off the tee. Most par 4s and 5s justify hitting a driver off the tee, even for the longest of hitters. I like that because I've played numerous courses where the funnest club to hit (driver) is taken out of my hands because the design of the hole makes it to much of a gamble. Here, a long baller can fly many of the fairway bunkers or knock it over trees to cut a corner. It's a long ballers dream but you better hit it fairly straight! The greens are large and again, you won't see the same green twice. This is the hidden Gem of the Greater Dayton area. I've played courses that cost twice as much money that can't hold a candle to this place!

Upscale Course MidRange Price

This course is always well maintained. Its difficult, but fun. Some long 5's, one down a huge hill. The back 9 is beautiful.
Pace is always of concern to the ranger & will be addressed if a group is slowing things down.
One of the best spots in Dayton.

Staff was fantastic

I can't say enough about how well the rangers maintained pace of play. Saw the ranger three times-- once to say hi and make sure we were having a positive experience, second time to let us know of an issue ahead of us with four elderly gentleman really backing things up and the third time to tell us to play as much as we wanted just make sure the cart was in before dark. Course was in pretty good shape, greens were a little rough. Was my first time, won be my last.
