Can't wait to play it again in the spring.
Weather forecast was 50+ degrees for golf on Tuesday. Unfortunately a cold front appeared and we only had a high of 34 degrees. Despite the cold, I played my best round on this course. I'm a beginner golfer so this course is challenging for me and a good short-game course for my boyfriend who is a 14 handicap. Can't wait to play this course again in the spring.
Love the Challenge Course at Eagle Crest
Pretty sure that I've reviewed this one before; we play it several times per year. It's a Par 63, about 4,000 yards from the Whites with a nice selection of 3's and 4's. Nothing scary, it's a great course to take a fledgling golfer who may not be ready for prime-time. You need to be relatively accurate as some of the fairways are lined with trouble but if you can pin the ball in a spot 60 to 80 yards wide, you're golden. Most of the Par 4's truly are but 17 and 18 (238 and 217 yards, respectively) are reachable for a solid player. 5 and 14 are the only holes with water definitely in play. You may find it helpful to take an extra club on 14 if the wind is moving at all - it tends to come down the hill to the green (towards you) but spills off to the sides before reaching the tee box because of the landscape. Check the flag closely before you tee off. Pace of play is usually really good, we finished this round in just under 3 hours (walking) and probably would have been 15-20 minutes faster except we had to wait for the threesome in front of us on most of the last 6 holes.
Great value, good practice
Played early November and we were the only 2 on the course. Although a shorter course, with par 62, still plenty of challenge and fun. Even though it is among homes, there is enough variety in the terrain and strategic placement of homes that it doesn't feel like a cookie cutter, housing development course.
The course can be more difficult tahn you might expect.
The course was in great condition. The greens were fairly fast and smooth. We were able to play in short sleeve golf shirts at the end of November. Typical Central Oregon weather!
This course was in excellent condition.
This was definitely a great value for the money. The course was in excellent shape and we were able to complete the round in 4 hours.
Challenge is the right word
Lush and tough. Best looking and toughest playing "short" course I've ever played.
Was called Mid-Iron, changed to Challenge!! Right name
LOVE TO PLAY THIS COURSE! We walk it
And this gives us GOOD excercise!! Price is
Great with golfnow! Thank you!
Great value through Golfnow.com!
This course is fun! Although a 'short' course it is not an easy walk as I prefer to do. Most folks would take a cart. The par threes are long and challenging. The par fours are short but you can take out the driver on them to try for a birdie. Wonderful views of Central Oregon on several holes. Play this course if you get the chance!
Very well kept fairways and greens. Beautiful scenery
I've golfed this course more than 10 times this season, it is always clean, well maintained, and has friendly staff. Fellow golfers are respectful and most will let you play through if they're slow. (No offense intended) I recommend this as a very challenging and fun short course. I frequently suggest this to friends.
The course can be a lot of fun and challenging.
The mix of par 3s and par 4s is nice and the par 3s are challenging. All greens are above average in difficulty. The par 4s do have some demanding tee shots that require accuracy. All in all, not for a novice, but novice players play here and ruin the pace of play. It is a nice walking course too. The course is designed to play in less than 3.5 hours; anything longer in terms of time is too long.
Excellent course to fine tune your short game!
Views are spectacular. Course is always in excellent condition.
Located in Eagle Crest - a beautiful destination resort. Although it is technically an executive course, it plays longer with 8 par fours.
Great Variety of Holes, Plenty of Challenge
We played the Challenge Course as our second 18 of the day, walking all 36 holes. The Challenge course was interesting, fun, and definitely a challenge. The holes presented opportunities as well as penalties and the walk over undulating terrain was surprisingly physical given the relative shortness of the overall yardage. Course is well maintained and the areas off the greens made for difficult shots when balls off the tee went astray. It was a good time all around and at $29 walking in the afternoon, a real value play.
Great tune up course
This course although short is a great one for tuning up your game. You will use all the clubs in your bag and enjoy having to think about how you will try to place your shots for best scores . I played this in Mar. and it is still pretty cold thus it was not real green yet but will be beautiful in May. Several elevated tees provide great views as a bonus. You won't be dissappointed.
Named appropriately!
The challenge course is fun and definitely challenging. Even though it is par 3 &4's, don't let that fool you. Many elevation changes. Even the best tee shot can land with the ball above or below your feet.
Definitely a fun course! Highly recommend!
