This course should not be booked online.
Made reservations online because no one ever answered the phone. There was no only at the site when we arrived. We lost at least a dozen balls on the fairways due to lack of mowing. We ran into a few guys that told us the course has been sold and is still pending. This course is really not playable. We lost over a dozen balls ON THE FAIRWAYS!!
Hopefully the new owners will make it a playable course. The layout is good but really shouldn’t be booked. Even tho we would be considered beginners, we were looking for a course to better our game. This did not happen…..
Friendly Vernonia Golf Club
We have golfed here many times in last 25 years
Course is fun. Carts suck. Easy walking with pull cart. We keep coming back for the challenge and the owner and staff are great. We can also let our Jack Russell dog ride with us.
The greens needed some help but overall this late in the season was still great fun. We always recommend to our friends when coming or going to the beach to stop in and play a round.
The staff discounted the price of the cart so it was fun and very reasonable to play twice this week.
A LITTLE ROUGH AROUND THE EDGES
Where do I begin with this golf experience? Why? That's where I begin. Why in the world did I book this round at this place? Why didn't it look like this in the photos? Why didn't somebody warn us? Why didn't I research it more. Why isn't anyone here, AT ALL. Why is that dog looking at me like that? Why is there a cart in the middle of what I think is the fairway just sitting there? Why is there no one in it and no equipment on it. NEVER AGAIN....!!!! GolfNow I would advise that you either add a disclaimer warning to this course or remove it altogether, never to be seen nor heard from again. And its truly sad really, because the layout alone challenges the golfer. Old bones for sure, but good bones in the right care, this place could be a hidden gem. An absolute diamond in the rough, but instead its literally an old hick farm with flag polls and a dog thats mad because apparently his food does not agree with him at all and he has left evidence of this all over the course in choice shady spots. Stay out of the trees fellow golfers, you will find much more than your wayward teeshot. Just when we thought all hope was lost, as we finished the 9th we were taken aback when we saw this feeble old man appear from the woods with his push mower, ready to manicure the greens one feeble step and swoosh of his mighty push mower blades. With a tilt of our caps we were in our cars and leaving what we both agreed upon, what had to be the worst course that we have ever seen or experienced in all my years playing.
Great course for practicing
I always enjoy going with no one really there and able to play at own pace. The conditions are soggy from the previous rain and snow storm but overall it is still worth the price
Nice course for the money
First time playing here. Fairways and tee boxes in great shape. The greens were rough and bumpy. Nice distance for a nine hole course. If the greens were better I would rate it higher.
Horrible, second to worse course I’ve ever played
Not gonna bash the place but all I’m gonna say is this; just stay away if you’re expecting to play on a golf course.
Try it sometime
This is a great little golf course to practice and work on your game. The people are super friendly, all the golfers are great It is in a rural area that is a beautiful setting and a very peaceful and relaxing place without the usual competitive atmosphere. The owner and employees cannot be beat for their friendliness. Take a drive and try it.
New Clubs
I just purchased a new set of clubs, found the course for a special price on Golf Now. I was alone for the first nine, finally saw people on the 14th hole, so that was nice in its own way.
The fairway grass is a bit taller than most courses, but the greens were in bad shape. Just hit a green and take an auto two putt at the worst.
Going downhill
Vernonia Golf Course is an out of the way course near a small town. It's now a 9 hole course, though years ago it was an 18 hole course. I'd have to guess that economics are the reason for the decline, but the greens are half fern like ground cover, half grass, and in general in poor condition. The fairways were very dry. The course layout does present challenges, and there are plenty of places where it's easy to lose your ball. But in general the shape the course is in- especially the greens- does not offer a satisfying golfing experience.
Worst course I've ever played
Just terrible. Where to begin? Tee time was 8am. I showed up at 7:40 and nobody was there. The greens are like a mixture of moss and clovers, not an actually putting green at all. The fairways were just brown crab grass and the ground was hard as a rock. Just dried cracked dirt. They obviously don't spend any time or money taking care of this place. Not even worth the 10 dollars I paid on golf now, let alone the fact that they charge 24 dollars for 18 holes when you just play 9 holes twice. Would not recommend this place to anybody.
BAD GolfNow booking & POOR golg course
FIRST, I booked FOUR of us who play about once a week using GolfNow on this Vernonia course. I have used GolfNow a number of times but the hotdeals & dicounts are FEWER & now the booking fee is TOO EXPENSINVE (about $13 dollars). SECOND, the fairways were TOTALLY dried-up & HOLE #7 is TOO narrow & ridiculous with its SLOPING & SMALL tee box.
Very nice experience
This very enjoyable course allows for accuracy and good putting. The course layout is very fair for most golfers. There are no tricky or blind shots required. It is an honest course that allows for a pleasant nine holes of golf. The course personnel are very helpful and friendly.
fun mountain course
Fun coarse, with challenges. Greens much better as day warms up
work in progress
The staff is very friendly, he is working hard to get the course back in shape. It is definitely a work in progress; greens are playable but ruggedd, the sand is closer to gravel...but you can see the work being done. There are some nice touches...animals caved into stumps on 3 and 8, for example. There are a couple challening holes where your tee shot must sneak through an opening before widening into wider, more forgiving fairways. Give the course and owner a chance, support it now so he can make the improvements to turn this back into a "hidden gem".
Way out there
Good value, fairway was not much different than the rough.
Kind of fun for a change of pace! A bit of a drive from Beaverton, but worth it for a day of golf!
Nice course away from the city
Overall, this was a good course to play. There was a shotgun start tournament that started shortly after we tee'd off but for the deal we got it was good. The greens on some holes are a little under maintained, but the course was in decent condition. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and the food was good.
