Presidential at Hickory Valley Golf Club
About
There are two 18-hole courses available at the Hickory Valley Golf Club, the Presidential and the Ambassador. The Presidential is the flagship course and it is also the longer and tougher of the two. The layout incorporates nine of the club's original 27 holes. The Presidential is nearly 300 yards longer than its sister course at 6,721 yards from the championship tees. The golf course has a nice balance of player-friendly features and challenging hazards. The wide fairways are quite forgiving, while the large, undulating greens are framed with bunkers. The signature hole is the par-4 second, which gently doglegs right, requiring a long and accurate tee shot. You're not out of trouble yet though, you'll still have to face the heavily bunkered green that also has a pond to the right.

Overbook much?
In regards to the course itself - it's not a bad course, and the conditions are generally pretty good.
In regards to this particular outing - it took 5.5 hours to play with a buddy (just us two). It was RIDICULOUSLY slow, and the groups ahead of us were clearly contributing to the slow pace. They didn't once offer to let us play through, nor did the ranger do anything to speed up the pace of play. I generally like this course (when there are golfnow deals), but this pace of play was absolutely ridiculous.
Pro Shop person is bad
I booked via GolfNow to play at 1:00pm, but the pro shop does not want to honor it and proposed me to play at 1:40pm. He said booking via GolfNow means nothing to him. Why does golf now still have this course on the app?
Terrible weather for the round
This is normally a great course to play but the weather made it a really crappy round. The day was cold and very windy and unfortunately as a result of all the rain previously the course was extremely wet. and swampy. We should have cancelled our round.
Pro shop attitude
The guy behind the counter clearly doesn’t appreciate anyone who books through an online discount site. He said “so you’re one of those Teetime guys”. And made it a point to tell me that there was a Teetime guy who played 4 holes the other day and wanted a rain check. He then said, “the guy didn’t pay anything?”
I reminded him that money definitely came out of my account…
losing its focus
There is a trend this course is losing its focus.
The greens are in a good enough condition but still could use some improvements in terms of speed and divot marks.
the fairways can also use some mowing too. Most of tee boxes are very patchy.
The worst part that needs help are bunkers.
The erosion is out of control and sand is half mud and sand.
The entire course had trashcans full and were spilling over with cans near the trashcans.
what a mess!
i heard there was a new owner or something to that nature. i saw the "owner" coming to the 1st tee box screaming out the players name for trying to tee off when there was nobody even waiting at the first tee. Perhaps he should concern himself with the much needed improvements the course desperately needs instead of trying to police someone just trying to get out when there was NOBODY on the first tee.
It used to be a great course with friendly and accepting people. Now,,,, go see for yourself. sigh!
Great day. I walked both courses in the same day. They both were layed out relatively the same. Both had water running through them which created lay up situations. The courses were both in good shape. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Both courses were pretty open so if you kept the ball in front of you you can't get in that much trouble. Still a great piece of property. I'd recommend it. Go walk it!
Late Winter Golf
It's late winter golf and we used a hot deal time with a 25% discount that saved a big $3 over the senior rates. The course has weathered a lot of heavy rain this winter. The fairways have survived in good condition and the 90° rule is in effect due to a number of soft areas. The traps are in rugged condition and will need work after drying out. The greens are understandable slow but also survived the winter in good condition. We play here a lot and look forward to playing here again this season when the weather and conditions are improved but it was great to play on an unusually warm day in March.
Last time we will ever play here
Carts were filthy dirty
Course was not in good shape
Tee boxes look like they haven’t been moved in at least a week. No Ranger to speed up play!
We got food and drinks after the round (over $45) and they came over to the table and asked for $1.25 because they didn’t change enough. And that was after a tip of over $10
That just put it over the top
Enjoyed the course!
The course was in very good shape considering it's February. A fairly tight lay out with small greens and plenty of winding creeks throughout a lot of the holes, makes this course fairly challenging. Great value.
Nice course. Early season conditions weren't the best
Nice course, was pretty fun to play. Not too excited on the conditions after paying almost $80. Aerated greens and bunkers were meh.
No Marshall
I have been playing here over 30+ yrs. It was on my favorites list.. the last couple yrs the place has gone down hill.. the parking lot looks like someone carpet bombed it. At least fill the holes in. For 72$ at the end of March at least have marshalls on the course.
Every single shot we had to wait. Terrible golfers and no care in the world about the pace of play or knowledge about game of golf. Driving carts around the traps and greens. No marshalls at all.. better courses in the area. Won't be playing here anytime soon again. And this has been ongoing for awhile now.

Slow greens
Played presidential before several times, layout is fun, requires well positioned tee shot.
Green was quite slow compared to other courses are pretty fast in the Fall. Seems greens are aerated a couple of weeks ago.

Hickory Valley Ambassador
Check in friendly and efficient. Staff is very organized. The Ambassador course is in excellent condition, and my only suggestion is that the course work on trimming back some of the overhanging tree branches near certain greens and blocking approach shots (left side of hole 3, for example). Great pace of play! We finished in 3 hours, 45 minutes. Greens in great shape. I always need to pack a few extra balls when playing this challenging, fun course.
