About

Holes 18
Type Military
Par 72
Length 6898 yards
Slope 131
Rating 73.3

The Legends at Parris Island offers a unique golfing experience and a challenging layout, amid a beautiful setting. Near Atlantic coast beaches and surrounded by beautiful marsh views, Parris Island is situated on a park-like military base where Marines are trained and equipped for U.S. military service positions all over the world. Golfers must have a tee time in order to come aboard Parris Island.

The golf course truly is a legend, having been rated as one of the top 10 military golf courses in the world. Yet it is little known by the outside world, tucked away from crowds, and a place of peaceful solitude.

The 18-hole golf course is lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. It features 6,898 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3, and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by Fred Findley and George Cobb, the Legends opened in 1947. Clyde Johnston redesigned it in 2000.

the course was very enjoyable pace of play was fabulous the greens were true and typical for this time of the year. because it is a Marine base give yourself plenty of time it could take 30 to 40 minutes when entering. FYI the flies are brutal especially when the tide is out, and the sun is shining. overall, it was a fun day and well worth the money.

A February round

Course was in very nice shape.Greens ran true and were quite fast as there was a tournament soon.
Pro shop help was much appreciated and eased the entrance at the main gate even with the necessary documentation completed weeks ago.
Lots of water to avoid and wildlife abundant.Made for an enjoyable round.Course could easily be walked.

Good course

For the price it was a nice course. Great pace of play. Challenging enough for 15-20 handicappers.

Good course, tough rough

This is generally a good course for high handicappers. It is not too long, (we played whites), but the Bermuda rough is brutal - hard to get out off and sometimes tough to find ball.

Good course but others are better overall

I’ve played Legends several times, giving it a 4 for golf, 2 for everything else (read below). It’s a pretty good course, usually in decent shape unless it’s rained a lot. Worth the money if you’re local, not worth it visiting (raised rates for out of towners). They tolerate visitors, but if you're used to your resort golf or country club, it's not that. It’s a government operation, run by government workers. If you love going to your local DMV and dealing with low level clerks who hate their job, you’ll love the parking office. The gate inspection is ok but takes time (fair enough). There is plenty of great golf in the area and I’ve gotten to where I mostly play elsewhere.

Problem with GN process

GN showed available tee time at Paris Iland GC, I responded to showed tee time and paid online. Went to course and manager said the course had not sold any tee times to GN for a 'long time ago' ! He said I had been ' swendled' out of the double tee time fee on Web page for GN. I repaid to play there since I had made the 50 mile trip to play.

I have no idea how to get GN to pay me back the $108 fee I paid them...

Club House not very inviting for a golf course. Obviously under new construction hopefully to improve that.
