Pawleys is such a beautiful challenging course. It's always in great shape. The greens are quick and true so you can make putts. The course is somewhat tight and the wind always blows out there. I feel it's the toughest test of golf on the grand strand. 13, 14, 16, 17, and 18 will test all of your shot hitting capabilities.

Let's start with this; the course is tough. There is trouble all over the place. If you miss the fairway, you're in a waste bunker; if you miss the waste bunker, you're in the water; if you miss both, you're OB. Certainly one of the most difficult courses in Myrtle Beach, but worth playing. The fairways were in rough shape, but the greens were perfect. We didn't see a brown spot all day. The back nine was really cool as it was cut out of, and in some cases constructed within, the marsh of Pawley's Island. We played with two guys who play there a lot and they said the bugs are usually awful there. Today they weren't bad, but with all the marsh on the course I believe it could be bad sometimes. Overall, if you play well the course rewards you, but if you make mistakes your score will reflect that.

I've played Pawleys a few times, I've noticed they always suffer from sub par conditioning. But this most recent day at pawleys was great, the greens were in the best shape I've seen them. Fairways were good for the most part with a few exceptions. This course plays as 2 different courses basically, but it somehow fits into one. The front 9 is pure low country golf and the design is solid. It is a very enjoyable 9 holes but when you take the turn, the views become spectacular. The back 9 seems as though the holes were already there before Jack touched them. On a windy day, these holes along the salt marsh will do quite a number on your scorecard. This is definitely one of the tougher courses on the South Strand. This is definitely a course I could play regularly and is easily in my top 10 area courses.

Well, they did get the greens back in shape, alas, they forgot about the rest of the course. Fairways and tee boxes were in horrible shape.Played a course down the road and it was miles ahead of this one in terms of condition. When a course is in this condition they should offer a discount. The 17th is a 70 yd 3 if you can believe that. Stay away.

Pawleys was the most disappointing course our group played all week. The greens were awful. According to the unfriendly marshall they lost them back in October. The strange thing is that the other 4 courses we played which were within 7 miles didn't have this problem. The marshall seemed aggravated at our complaints and offered no apologies only admonished us to pick up the pace even though we were waiting every hole.

This course is a nice course, not overly hard. It has several challenging holes. The greens for February were surprising nice, putts rolled out smoothly. It was very wet due to extreme storms prior to our trip so the fairways were soft with some standing water on some holes. Considering the fact there were tornado watch's the day before the course was in great shape.

Look forward to playing here as often as possible. Great character and for me quite challenging - particularly the back nine. Unfortunately, got stuck behind a "fivesome" on the back nine which slow down all groups to a frustrating crawl. No Rangers or anyone "in charge" was around as I guess all the bosses went home for the afternoon. Anyway, highly recommend when the get the pace of play organized a bit better.

This course is a great course to see if you are as good as you think you are. I have played it from the tips and the men's tees. It is all you want from the tips. Played probably one of my best rounds ever and shot 73. The course is very scenic and requires a lot of different shots. The course has always been in good to great shape when we have played. If you are on the south end of the beach then add this one to your list. I believe pricing was reasonable as well.

The front 9 and the back 9 felt like 2 totally different courses. The front 9 was underwhelming lined by houses and not the low country course I was expecting. The back 9 was scenic low country marsh land and was beautiful. I went into this course with high expectations cause it was low country course designed by Jack and I was a bit disappointed.

One of the most frustrating rounds of golf from the second I pulled my car into the parking lot. One row of cars was blocked off by a group of buddies drinking Bud Lights before they even teed off. Staff in the clubhouse treated my group with an extremely smug attitude as if their position as cashiers in the club pro shop at "Pawley's Plantation" allowed them to be short and condescending. As our group pulled up to the first tee we shocked to already find that the next group was waiting for us to tee off, they were literally right behind our set of carts. The group in front of ours played extremely slow and jammed up the entire course from the very first hole. Each time they reached the green play would come to a halt as each golfer needed to exercise the patience of a PGA veteran with each putt. Finally we reached the 18th fairways where the ranger had miraculous appeared and was closely following the group, sorry but it was a bit too late to push the pace of play. Loud pop and rap tunes were blasting from the back porch of the clubhouse where there was no wedding actually occurring just the set up process. Extremely off-putting . The course was very well kept, layout was okay. But to be honest I can't remember much of the actual golf at Pawley's because on each shot I had to wait so long that I got completely disinterested with the whole affair. Would love to return and play the course in the afternoon when it's not packed, maybe the clubhouse employees will be remotely friendly next time.

I am a member at Pawleys Plantation and have played there many times. The course is one of my favorite in the Myrtle Beach/Pawleys Island area.

Nicklaus designed a gem in PP. The front 9 winds through a planned golf community, but the homes and condos do not intrude on the peacefulness of the course. The back 9 starts like the front, but after hole 11, the course opens up to the tidal marsh, over looking the marsh, inlet, and Pawleys Island proper. Holes 12 through 17 are absolutely amazing, especially in the evening or late afternoon!

No 2 holes at PP are the same, and you will use every club in your bag. There are 5 sets of tees with the Golden Bear tees playing just over 7,000 yards from the tips.

There is a good mix of risk reward holes here. There are 2 par 5's that are reachable for the decent handicapper (4 and 14) and the par 3's are relatively short but all demand amazing accuracy.

There are a lot of holes where driver must stay in the bag (5,15, and 16 come to mind). A wayward driver here will result in ball deep in the pines and forcing you to hit out of the tricky pine straw.

To say this course is bunkered would be an understatement. Nicklaus keeps you constantly thinking about placement and keeping away from the large waste bunkers on many holes and out of the deep bunkers that protect most greens.

PP is a semi private course, meaning that depending on the time of year times are split between members and the general public. The course is rarely busy though, with the lone exception being the high seasons of March-June and September-November.

The course is beautifully maintained all the time. The only issue I have seen is the Tees on 13 and 17 along the seawall tend to sometimes be chewed up. There is also an area on the 15th hole in the fairway where the grass always seems to struggle to grow.

The clubhouse is amazing and the practice facilities are very nice. The staff is always friendly and laid back.

Played Pawley's Plantation for the first time. From the time we opened the doors at the bag drop it was a great experience. We started on #10, a short par 4 with water on the right and in front of the green. It made it clear playing the straight ball would be the best way to play the course. Top notch facilities, great staff and fair pin placements made for a very good day of golf. This is my new favorite course in the Myrtle Beach area.
