Stumpy Lake Golf Course
About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Hard and fast
Course was in decent shape. Greens were a little diseased but otherwise playable. Bring a hammer to get your tee into the teebox though, about half the holes the tee box was too hard to get a tee into
Hard and fast
Course is hard as a rock. Bring your hammer for the tee boxes. Some greens are better than others. Overall the course is in decent shape.
Less than Average
I will start with the good points. The check-in guys, golf cart return guy, cart girl, and bartenders very friendly and attentive.
As for the course, it’s in poor shape. The greens have areas that are bare dirt. You can’t even putt with any type of accuracy. The tee boxes have many bare areas, and it’s almost impossible to put a tee in the ground. Fairways are the same. It’s like hitting off of concrete.
Pace of play- Now granted I played on Fathers Day, so I expected a slower than normal round. We had a tee time at 12:25 and we didn’t actually tee off until 12:50 because there were no carts. We got through hole 13 and quit. Five hours at this point and we had 4 groups backed up at hole 14.
I wish I could leave a better review but just not a lot of good to talk about other than the staff.
Slow pace of play
Pace of play was terrible. We had a single walker in front of us, and a twosome in front of him. The twosome looked like more of a teaching session and the single was hitting 2-3 tee shots at every hole. This sort of thing happens often at SL. This is more of an etiquette thing, but I think the course should send someone out to monitor pace of play every once in a while. Other than that, love the course and layout. I’ll keep going back!
Solid course
Wish this course had better prices but great layout even with the patchy greens.
Where was the Marshall?
We played (2 of us) the front 9 at a decent pace. When we got to 10, there was a twosome who somehow cut in front of us. The foursome we followed on the front 9 became 5 and they played very slow. Should not have allowed a joiner. The Marshall was all over the front 9 but never saw him on the back. Won’t be returning soon.
Course was fair for a public course. The first 3 greens were in terrible shape. All the white and yellow tee box’s were hard as a rock.
