Water Hazard Photo submitted by mjmateyka on 09/26/2012
Greens are great.
Bidwell greens keeper is doing a great job. It is the best condition that I have seen. The rest of the fairways are ok, but not great. This course is not worth $58. More like $35 when compared to other city courses.
Sunny day
Greens were soft easy to putt on. But watch out for trees. Definitely had to hit some tiger woods trick shots.
It was really hot and there’s no water thermoses. Very disappointed. Also ball washers were broke or out of water. Once I used a water puddle to clean my ball.
Grass an edges were trimmed well . No trouble find my balls. And good bounces. I shot an 80. Low score for that course.
Saw deer and squirrels everywhere.
4 dollars for Gatorade was a little high.
Have a nice day
hot and dry
In this hot (105*) and dry season, water is a critical subject. There are going to be spots on the course that the irrigation system can't reach. But to NOT provide drinking water on the course is ridiculous and is as much or more of a liability as covid is. Heat stroke is a very strong possibility if a person happens to forget to bring their own water. A course 20 miles away but in the same county has had water stations since early spring, so it is not the county health dept regulating the dispensing of water on the course. Water is essential.
First Time Playing this Course
Fairways were a bit sparse in spots. Greens in excellent conditions. Very interesting course layout. Will definitely return.
Slow play
The slow play put a damper on the day. Tough to find any rhythm we you are waiting on every tee box. Did not finish the round as it took over 3 hours to play the front nine. gave up after 12.
This could be a really nice course with a little care.
Bidwell fairways are in horrible shape
Bidwell fairways are in horrible shape. For as much as it costs to play this course, they should replant the fairways. It looks like there is a fungus that has killed the grass. The company that manages Bidwell does not care because it is the only public course in Chico. Until members and guests stop playing there nothing is going to change.
Bidwell course
Staff most friendly, fairways need a lot of TLC, greens are good
hard
The grass around the greens was too high and the greens were too dry and very hard.
Course review
The clubhouse was nice and staff very helpful the fairways are quite rough uneven grass an in need of TLC greens we’re punched a few weeks ago so there healing
good course.
Aerated greens but a lower rate balanced it out. Fairways still need tlc.
Not worth the money
The fairways are in terrible condition. Very little grass and lots of bare spots. Temporary greens that have been like that for months. Greens keeper is not doing their job. Slow play for a weekday and no Marshall. Chico needs another golf couse.
Late round
The course was in decent shape for the time of year the greens were in really good shape
This course is a work in progress.
The good news is that the greens on holes number 6 (a par 4) and 12 ( a par 3) has gone through wonderful makeovers. I believe it has now been well over 6 weeks since completion. Unfortunately, the winter’s temperature and constant changes may have delayed the re-opening of these greens. So, there are still very small, lumpy-bumpy, temporary greens in place, about 50 yards in front each of these holes. Accept for number 18, the other greens were in very good condition. And the overall course appearance looked appealing and well-trimmed. You really would have to come and play this park setting course, with it’s migrating geese, wild ducks, deer, and occasional flocks of turkey inhabitants, to find out why it is still considered a “hidden gem.”
