About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Very nice course.
I gave it fewer stars in some categories than it probably deserves but I was playing it after a few days of rain. I plan on returning many times when the weather turns dryer. Overall a pretty nice course. Good experience.
Great course to play
We loved playing this course and would absolutely play it again.
Sanded green and extremely slow play
There was an "aeration warning" when booking but did not say when it was aerated. It turned out that they aerated yesterday! All greens are covered with sand, barely playable. There are not a lot of people on the course, but the few groups that were on the course were extremely slow. They not only played slow, also walked slow, and not even offering to let us pass. We ended up mostly sitting in the cart behind the tee and watch these guys hit their tee shots 50 yards into the trees.
The greens were sandy that is all I d say. Great round for me
Beautiful Course Hampered by Pace Problems
The course itself was stellar, it was challenging but rewarded good shots. The staff and the grounds were fantastic. However, the group I played with waited an average of 10 minutes per shot. That does not include the time it took for everyone in my group to hit, and go to their next shot locations. I scheduled my tee time with the expectation of getting in 18 holes before 330pm. Needless to say I had to leave after the 9th.
Great Value
First time here. Course condition was decent given end of a dry summer. Some tee boxes were very chewed up and green firmness was not consistent…. Some firm and some a bit soft. Nice layout with plenty of challenge without being overbearing. A great value.
Beautiful Course
The pro-shop man working there, and then the day after him, need some Customer Service Skills. No Marshall on the course. The group in front of us had several holes open in front of them. We finally had to skip a hole and move in front of them. When I called the pro shop the same rude man told me there was no Marshall on the course, so it was up to me to approach the group. No good Customer service. The young gal that used to be there (I believe she was having a baby) was a delight. You need more like her!
Tight fairways, big tall "whispering firs" provide shade. Easy to walk.
Love this course. Not easy but not difficult if you hit it straight. Beware of "hack" golfers that can slow you down.
