Lake Mills Golf Course
About
Lake Mills Golf Club first opened in 1927, making it one of the area's oldest courses. The original nine-hole course was shaped and molded from gently rolling farmland. The course eventually expanded to a full 18 holes and has undergone other major renovations since it first opened though it still retains the same traditional character as the original course. At just over 6,700 yards from the tips, the course has several holes that will please long hitters. The occasional water hazard comes into play as well as several strategically placed bunkers. Mature trees also line the fairways, demanding accuracy. Lake Mills Golf Club has a fair amount of challenges in store but beginners should still feel confident about approaching it, especially with four different sets of tees available.

Never before has this happened!
I booked and PAID FOR a Hot Deal Tee Time on GolfNow, I arrived at the course 30 minutes early only to be told that "No, there is nothing here to show that you've paid." I pulled out my phone and showed him the payment receipt from my credit card company, but he insisted that I still owed $44. He also insisted that they had NO AFFILIATION with GolfNow and he didn't know how those Hot Deal T-Times got on there. They get NO MONEY back from GolfNow for those T-Times. I have NEVER had this happen in all the years I've used GolfNow, so what an awful precedent to set for users of GolfNow. To pay online for a tee time thru GolfNow, drive all the way there and be told: "No, you haven't paid"?
For the weather we have had the course is in great shape
Tough Night
Nowhere on the booking did it say you could only play the back nine, so we needed up playing the back twice. The course is pretty dry with the lack of rain.
Used to be my favorite
Pace of play was horrendous due to multiple people splitting up instead of pairing for same time slots. Was playing as a single and nobody would let me pass them up. Scheduling needs to be worked on. I did nothing but cool down and wait for the entire 9 holes. Almost every one we had 3 groups on each hole. I payed for 18 holes and they refused a raincheck due to their crap schedule. Left anyways. I used to go here alot, used to be my favorite course, and used to recommend it also. Not anymore. Also why isnt there a beverage person on an 80 degree day?
Hi Jesse. I just had a chance to go back and further examine the claims you are making here. First off, you are complaining that there was no bev cart out when you played. I looked at your tee time, and it appears you played on a slow Monday. Like the majority of courses, we do not have a bev cart go out on Monday. We do have a sign in the pro shop stating this fact as well, and we offer you coolers to take out on the course that hold a six pack each. Second, I want to address your comments about pace of play. You are claiming that is was horrendous because of multiple people splitting up and that there were 3 or more groups on each hole. I checked the tee sheet for the day, and at the time you were out there there was only 2 singles and 2 two-somes on the course. The only other people that may have been out there at the time would be the high school teams, and they are required to let paying customers play through at all times, which I know that they do.
Hi Jesse. We would certainly appreciate it if you would call the clubhouse and let us know that pairings were splitting up instead of leaving a review about it, so that we could have actually sent our ranger out to address the situation. Additionally, I looked up your tee time and you bought it as a Golf Now Hot Deal. Unfortunately, the course makes and collects $0 for that tee time. 100 percent of the money you spent goes to Golf Now. There is no way we can give you a rain check or a refund on a tee time we collected no money for. You would have to discuss it with Golf Now.
Great course
This course was recommended to me last year, and I am so glad I tried it. It is a really nice, well-maintained course for a great price. The staff is very friendly too. It definitely has become my favorite track in the area.
Poor customer service
I’ve been booking tee times with Golf Now since it’s inception. This is the first club that told me Golf Now customers can’t have a cart until 25 minutes prior to the tee time because Golf Now customers were teeing off early. She said I was rude and belligerent. Nothing could be further from the truth . Very unaccommodating staff . STAY AWAY!
I was there when this went down. I was told by the course you left a review and felt I needed to respond. There was no poor customer service. Your behavior was completely out of line. You screamed and harassed that poor girl in the pro shop for following the set discount times you agreed to when you signed up. I have never seen an 80+ year-old-man stomp around and throw a temper tantrum like a toddler before. You were asked nicely to leave for at least 30 minutes while I was there, and you wouldn't go. I was one of the people who complained about your behavior and suggested that the cops be called because there was no telling what you were going to do during your tantrum. Six of us sat outside the pro shop and listened to you screaming on the phone about attacking the staff with your golf clubs and about being reimbursed for gas money. We were more than 200 feet away from you and heard every word you said. You are lucky you weren’t arrested when the cops showed up. As a financial advisor, I am going to give you a piece of free advice. If you are chasing golf deals around and screaming about getting paid back for gas, you have no business playing golf. This is an expensive sport, and you clearly can’t afford it. If I were you, I would take that money and spend it on counseling. You clearly need it after the way I saw you act.
Joe, you came in 2 hours prior to your GolfNow Hot Deal time. When you book those tee times, here are the rules on your reservation email:
From GolfNow: "Tee Time Notes: This Tee Time is offered exclusively by GolfNow and not the golf course. Please expect to play precisely at time chosen in reservation. **This special rate is valid only for this tee time and will not be honored at any other time of day.**"
When you came in... two full hours before your set time.... you were given this information by our pro shop staff. You proceeded to berate the staff for following the set rules and became belligerent. You then stomped into the pro shop every 5 minutes to further scream and yell, which made our pro shop staff very scared to see you behave in such a bizarre manner. We had other golfers come in to express their concerns about your behavior as well. We finally made the decision to call GolfNow and ask them to refund your money as we felt very uncomfortable letting someone who was behaving in such an unhinged manner onto our golf course. After we secured your refund, you proceeded to scream and yell obscenities at our staff and wouldn't leave the premises. The highlight of your tirade was when you told the GolfNow operator you were going to take a golf club to the side of the owner's head.
Given this unstable behavior, we had to call the police to have you removed. They told us they found your behavior disturbing as well and waited with us for quite awhile to make sure you didn't return.
This should go without saying, but you are permanently banned from the course. GolfNow also has a file on your regarding this incident and your behavior. Good luck to you in the future.
Holy Hail!!
Bring cash, the credit card machine was down / not existing?? It took a long time to process CC transaction for a few drinks. Weather started off excellent. course was in good condition for this time of year. Playing from the front tees anyone can play this course and enjoy it. layout almost requires a cart with the long distances between some greens and the next tee (kind of through a subdivision and across a few roads. (not great signage for some holes where you had to go through sub division. The layout was decent, you didn't have a lot of holes that looked like what you just played. This was a welcome change on a small town Wisconsin golf course. The greens were small to medium in size, mostly round or oval Got through 12 holes when the rain started, then we saw the lightning for the first time. We headed for the clubhouse (from almost the most distant point) as there was no place to take shelter in site. On the drive back it seemed like there was lightening all around us and that is when the HAIL started, not quite golf ball size but close (cart had a top but that didn't help). By the time we got back to the clubhouse the sun was coming back out, we were too soaked and went home. You have got to love spring storms. I would recommend this course to players of any skill level, but in terms of value, for a few dollars more you can play better courses in the area. Price we paid was after Golfpass discounts were applied.
Extremely Dissapointing
This was the worst conditioned course I’ve ever played! This includes many munis I grew up on. Plus the staff treated us as unwanted because we booked on a Hot Deal.
Small greens
Course was in decent condition. No range to warm up and a small chipping putting green. Greens were slower. Greens were small but in decent shape. Course does offer challenges.
Course nice, staff so so
Course was in good condition for the time of the year. Had an interesting layout with several doglegs. Only issue was with front desk not allowing us to tee off until our exact tee time, had to wait about 30 mins even though no one else was had a tee time before ours. Wouldn't even let us load our carts early, other than that would play again
When you buy a Golf Now "Hot Deal" you are buying a deal for an exact tee time. In fact, when you buy said tee time, this is the language on your reservation:
"Tee Time Notes: This Tee Time is offered by GolfNow and not the golf course. Please expect to play precisely at time chosen in reservation. **This special rate is valid only for this tee time and will not be honored at any other time of day.**"
Buying a Hot Deal time from GolfNow is like buying a hotel room through a third party like Travelocity rather than the hotel itself. The golf course does not collect or receive any money off those tee times. They are specifically GolfNow tee times, and we are bound by their rules. If you wanted to play at an earlier time that is owned and operated by the golf course, you would have to buy and pay for that specific tee time. We are asked to enforce the policies of the tee time you purchased, set by GolfNow.
Thank you for your review. Our online booking tee sheets are run by Golf Now, so unfortunately we are not allowed to make notes as to when only 9 holes are open. We do have a men's league on Wednesdays that rotates the front and back 9. We do apologize for any inconvenience that this caused you. If you call us when booking, we can always tell you if something is going on. As to dryness, we are currently in a drought across most of the state, and we are down 11 inches of water currently. We are keeping our watering focus on greens and tee boxes, with 3 staff members out full time daily to make this happen. We are watering the fairways too, but the focus must be on greens and tee boxes in a drought. The hard fact is, when there is a drought like we are experiencing, there is no irrigation system that can do 100 percent of the work that we are lacking from rain. We, like every other golf course in this drought plain, are doing our absolute best to water as much as possible right now.
