Surprisingly good value, close to Madison
Foxboro is convenient for Madison residents, only about 10 minutes south of the beltline highway. The course was designed by the original owner, is par 70 and a bit quirky in places, but is fun to play with a good mix of easy and difficult holes. In particular, 3 holes on the back nine (12-13-14) are dubbed "Amen corner" and are very challenging for anybody.
The greens are in excellent condition, they putt very fast and have some serious undulations on many holes. And they are as consistent and true as nearly any course in this area. The fairways are also in great condition and they keep the rough at a managable level so you can recover from an errant shot.
The bar and beverage service is extremely friendly with very reasonable prices ($2.50 for a can of beer and $12 for a six pack), but food offerings are limited and they no longer have tap beer.
The course tends to attract average (or worse) players but you can usually play in 4 hours or less. They offer very attractive discounts, so you when you want to play a fun round at a very modest cost, the course is well worth a try.
