Course has a tremendous layout over very hilly terrain. Conditions were good and the greens were modern with plenty of undulation.

Worth the effort to play.

Lots of sloping fairways. You'll loose a lot of balls in the tall folded over grass if you're not staying in the fairway somehow. Your ball might run forever in dryer conditions. Some of the greens had spots where they need taken care of. Was told by one of the workers that it was from lots of rain, dryness or moss. Another review from last year said they saw the same thing so I'm not sure what the real reason is behind it. Price seemed a little high for a Friday but a lot of courses are charging people as if Friday is part of the weekend now which should not be that way. I would play it again and recommend it to play. Take a lot of balls though.

Crazy layout

The layout of this course will make you scratch your head. It's a public course that is unforgiving. Hit many quality shots that ended up off the fairways and greens due to the layout. Many greens are damaged that should have been repaired but has been let go.
I walk most courses and called the day before to see if this was a walking course and the woman who answered said " not many do but I have some 70 year olds that walk". No disrespect to them but that's bull. This is not a walkable course!
I will not return here again.

The course is tricked up. The whole time you're left wondering when the ball will come flying back at you from the clown's mouth. The grass is in the fairways is mostly crab grass, making it difficult to distiguish fairways from rough. Every cup was crowned and difficult to putt at the right speed. With the level of difficulty in course layout the greens should have been more playable. The pin placements were the product of an angry greens keeper or sadistic mind. The person running the pro shop was confused and unprofessional. She charged one of golfers for a round that was prepaid and when brought to the attention of the management on the phone, they hung up the phone on me.

Beautiful Course but very slow play

We drove over an hour to play this course for the first time. The course has a beautiful but challenging layout. The greens are extremely tough. Unfortunately, that day the course was hosting an outing which was in front of us. The play was beyond slow with four-five groups stacked up at each tee box waiting on two groups who were playing a scramble. They were obviously drunk, throwing beer cans, everywhere, wrestling on the greens, and no ranger in sight for 18 torturous holes.

The course has a lot of potential and could be one of the nicest courses in Ohio with a little TLC. It is picturesque and challenging but not fun to play due to the lack of etiquette by some and the lack of the golf course management to monitor the situation.

Extremely Tough

Course is extremely tough, beyond my skill set but I loved the challenge...Lost about 9 balls, and had many 3 putts and a 4 putts...nothing was flat so the greens really test your green reading abilities...

Nothing is level in the fairways, so be prepared to have plenty of shots with the ball above and below your feet to elevated greens...

Would of given a perfect score, but there were a few greens that had some bare spots on them...but again loved the challenge, and I can say I birdied one hole...lol

Well worth the drive from Cleveland to play...

This is Millersburg Y'all

Will play here often, now that's it's on GolfNow. Can't beat this courses layout for $20 anywhere! But go EARLY if you can. Before the backwoods, toothless, hayseeds roll out of bed from their previous night's drunken stupor. I could have sworn I heard the cry, "Soooo-IE !! " from the front nine when I was clear out on the back nine. These hillbilly millennials have absolutely no respect for the course, the expense it takes to maintain one, or their surroundings. I must have repaired a half dozen ball marks on every green. Everywhere you look, there's beer cans and trash thrown in the trees. I even had the privilege of seeing two, yes two, shirtless beer gutted hicks taking chunks out of the fairway. I only wish this course was up north. It would receive the respect that it deserves.

Great course and possible location for a super golf getaway weekend

The old adage “never judge a book by its cover” might have been written for Black Diamond. Nestled somewhat remotely in the rolling hills of Ohio the drive-up first impression (what do they call it now “curb-appeal”) of the course certainly does not jump out at you. What’s beyond the double-wide pro-shop/snack bar and “gently used” cart-paths; however, is considerably more “diamond” than “rough.”

Black diamond starts you out with a very “attackable” par 5 (although it does require a carry over water for your first shot of the day), including a relatively large fairway landing area and fairly accessible green. But, things get a bit chippier after that; narrow landing spaces (both for drives fairway shots), tight angles, and undulating putting surfaces place a premium on accuracy, tee to green. Club selection, as well as attention to where the “meat” of the landing areas is, can make or break your scoring chances on many holes.

It’s easy to get caught up in the scenery of this course as well. Most holes feature some amount of elevation change along with the already mentioned narrow landing spaces. The only real exception I recall to that was the - unique in its own way - par six (6!) 7th hole which can play as long as 720 (it was about 620 from the blues when I played it). Deer and wild turkeys were a part of our “gallery” as we made our way through the back nine and there is plenty of water and numerous trees adding equal value to the visual appeal and challenge of the course.

The staff and grounds crew were outstanding; enthusiastic about having us there and courteous to us throughout the course. Frequently, the grounds crew anticipated our arrival on a hole or green and were out of sight before we arrived, a level of attentiveness often not found even on some of the more exclusive/private clubs we have played.

There is also a house that can be rented in the heart of the course (near the signature barn on the 11th green). It can accommodate up to 14 people and offers a rather unique “stay and play” option as it is truly in the middle of the course (i.e. not on an outer border like most course side housing). Given the proximity to other tourist attractions (e.g. Amish country), I can’t imagine why this wouldn’t be a great get-away travel destination. We would absolutely return to play again (and likely stay on property next time).

Nice course, but a few caveats

This is one of the most scenic golf courses in Ohio. Elevation changes constantly, and all but a few holes are rather hilly. It's in mostly great shape right now. Unfortunately, in my opinion, 4 or 5 holes are completely unfair. I hit several shots that landed in the fairway, took odd bounces, and vanished forever. The second shot landing area on the 600+ yard par 6 is really cut narrow. Some greens are really sloped and pin placements were very tough. My other issue is the condition of the cart paths. On a course like this, where hills are high and holes are often far apart, it's not great when the path is in the horrible shape I found here.

Having said all that, it still was a blast (mostly) and I would play it again. Knowing a little more would certainly help. But I just can't see how to avoid some of those bad bounces. A good shot shouldn't be punished.

Tough Course to Review

The course layout is fantastic, worth the drive. The course is hard for the average golfer with most every hole having an elevation change. Every green has undulations so 3 putts are going to happen but the green speed is average. Don't try to walk the course (I did last year), some huge hills in between holes. The issue I have with the course is that maintenance is not being kept up. Cart path is in terrible shape, half the bunkers have not been maintained in 2016, and no bunker had a rake. Last year the bunkers were not an issue. I played with my brother and we both were only charged for the walking rate. That along with the course not being busy, in a small town, I wonder if this course is going to stay in business long. I hope so.

Bring Your A Game

The best way to describe this course is to quote a local who plays there every week :"If you are mad at someone bring them here to play". That about sums it up. This is by far the most difficult course I have ever played and that includes all the Legends courses at Myrtle Beach. I lost more balls in 18 holes than I had all summer. You must be prepared to hit laser straight while still carrying water and deep ravines that irons will not reach. Throughout most of the course you are faced with deep ravines off the left and deep woods guarding the right. Fairways are mostly "thread the needle" narrow. Also, even though Ohio has a lot of flat land, that is not the case here. This is a classic mountain course layout with most holes on steep hills. There is even a par 6 so that tells you a lot about the toughness here. The fairways and greens were in good shape. The people were friendly. The price was very reasonable. Bunkers were hard pack and no rakes to be found. The cart path appeared to have been paved when the course was constructed and no maintenance since. Cart gave us no trouble but was well worn. There is no "clubhouse", more of a pro shop. Locals wore tee shirts. I felt mentally beat up throughout the round. Usually I start feeling regrets around the 17th hole that the round is coming to an end. At Black Diamond I was never so relieved to end a round. I will not go back. Your results may vary.

The golf course was truly a gem. The views are awesome. The tee shots can be demanding.

The greens rolled true and held iron shots from 200 yards. The tee shots can be demanding but with the fairways being wet I thought you could keep the ball in the fairway. The views around the golf course were awesome! The staff was friendly and helpful. I would play the golf course again.

Great Course Layout - Poorly Maintained

The natural terrain that makes up this course is extremely hilly and wooded. Most of your shots do not come from a flat lie. Very challenging. Don't let the yardages fool you. Although it plays short from the Men's Tees because it is wooded and hilly, the course plays much longer and harder. The real issue here is the maintenance and grooming of the course. Greens in places were burnt out (Played in April) and had many ball marks that were unattended to. Several putts bounced towards the hole, even 5 footers. Sand traps were grown over in areas and washed out. Many sand traps were unplayable. Lastly, in several places the cart paths were completely sunken, broken or gone (Which normally isn't a huge issue but because of the slope of the cart path, this becomes an issue)
