Toka Sticks Golf Club
About
Unlike many other courses in Phoenix, the course at the Toka Sticks Golf Club was not done in a traditional desert-style. It is known amongst locals for having very fast greens, many of which are elevated. The old Toka Sticks course was originally a nine-hole course built in 1945 but in addition to making it an 18-hole, championship course, it has had many renovations in the years since to make it a more challenging and interesting course. There are stately trees present on the course call for straight shots in order to reach the narrow fairways. Two lakes are situated on the course that create water hazards that come into play on sever holes. There are also several well-placed sand bunkers throughout. Toka Stick Golf Club also offers a short game area, a putting green and a driving range.

wide open course
First time playing here and really enjoyed it. The course is flat and open, hard to miss the fairway. Greens are better than most. Oh and don't forget your bug spray, lots of mosquito's.
Needs improvement
Uneven tee boxes, inconsistent fairway conditions, greens were fine but holes placed on side slopes and around the cup were raised edges where holes were punched. Upon checking in cashier took body spray and sprayed it all around her before interacting with me. Real weird. Starter was rude and had an attitude. Not a pleasant experience
First time
Looking for a reasonably priced course in the Phoenix area in March is very difficult. I found this course on GolfNow and thought we would give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. The guy we played with was a regular and he told us that the new management has done a wonderful job over the last year improving the course.
Rental clubs
We played Toka Sticks twice and rented clubs both times. The course was in great condition. We really liked that there are no bare ground areas.
For the first game I found the 3wood head was broken off when I pulled it out on the #1fairway. I called in twice to get a replacement but never received one. The second round neither set had a nine iron. Lesson: always check rentals thoroughly before heading out. The course did not offer any concession off the really high per-set rental rate.
Tricky greens
Fun day, greens have a lot of break that challenges you
Green hard fast
The course is built in the 1950s style. The greens were a challenge but in great shape. I loved that the fairways required the player to maneuver the ball around the trees instead of just hitting it straight. Many risk reward shots.
Great vacation value
For a 12 handicap player from the Northeast, and not having played for several months, this course is a great way to re-groove your game….great conditions, not too difficult, with greens combining some challenging pin placements and true roll. Pricing is very reasonable given course fees this winter. Played 2 rounds a week apart and would absolutely play there again
Much Improved!
Second time playing this course since they invested in updates and it’s really improved! Kudos to the new management! The staff is fantastic and the marshal was very polite. He was concerned our pace of play was too slow for us but we kept telling him we didn’t mind but it all worked out! All the grass was good except for a couple of tee boxes were pretty hard trying to push a tee in. Wished people would keep track of their garbage and either use the cans or take it out when they leave. Definitely will play again. Track has enough challenges to make it fun.
Love the new improvements!
They’ve really upgraded the course IMO. Greens were well-maintained, and getting rid of the bushes/trees around the water is a great touch. Excellent value for your money.
Well maintained
The course is well maintained and staffers very friendly. The course is pretty flat and not a lot of obstacles but still fun to play.
A fun course for all levels
With multiple tees, great course conditions, greens that are challenging but true, a truly enjoyable experience. Going back again in a few days!
Toka Sticks Good Value
Course in good shape, tee boxes could use some work.
