Cave Creek Golf Course
About
Cave Creek Golf Course is Phoenix's most popular municipal course, seeing about 100,000 rounds yearly. In 1983, Cave Creek began as a landfill reclamation project. It's a sort of pioneer in environmental design, proving similar spots can find environmentally friendly uses. It's open dawn to dusk, year-round.
Eighteen holes of par-72 golf take golfers over 6,732 yards on the Cave Creek Golf Course, kicking off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 363 yards from the blue tees, before things get long on the second hole, which measures 510 yards from the blue tees. That's just one of four long holes, with the sixth hole measuring 532 yards from the blue tees, the 11th coming in at 521 yards from the blue tees, and the sixth having a distance of 518 yards from the blue tees. The round concludes after a suggested playing time of four hours and 10 minutes on the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 388 yards from the blue tees.
The city of Phoenix has contracted with several hotel chains to offer stay-and-play packages for golfers at the Cave Creek Golf Course and other municipal tracks.

Good and Bad
First off and most important to most people is pace of play. I have heard bad things about this course, but my experience was good in regards to starting on time and pace. My girlfriend and I were paired with another couple and we teed off exactly at our 11:22 tee time on a busy Sunday afternoon. Usually when I pay close to 50 dollars I expect the course to be in pretty good shape. The green complexes were great but the fairway and off of the fairway was a cow pasture. Very fortunate to get a good lie even if you are in the fairway. The staff was friendly and the food service was good. Points to the halfway house for having hot dogs ready to go that were good tasting and a big dog for 3.50. The course layout was good except for two of the holes that the red tees were in a very different place than the white and blue. Cart paths and parking lot were in disrepair, prepare to be jostled around a bit. The range was good except for the side hill slots at the extreme left of range which we had to use because the range was full when we arrived. Overall it was very average and you can find better shape courses for the same price in Phoenix. That being said it was prime time in peak season. I just expect a bit better conditions for 50 bucks using our Phoenix golf resident card.. I can't imagine paying over 60 bucks for this course condition. But if you did not live here that is what you would have paid. I probably will not go back and would not recommend this course to friends.
Great challenging course
Course is getting amazing. Cleared out the washes of growth. Carts are clean and run great. Course is challenging.
Staff is knowledgeable, food is good.
Great Course for the Price
The course offers a wide array of challenges and forces players to make use of each club in the bag. ... however, the greens were much slower than anticipated. Pace of some players was slow. Overall would love to play again.
Fun Day of Golf however...
Great day of golf. Sunday was a great day to play, it was on the warm side but not bad with a slight breeze. Everything was going well however our cart died and we were stuck in the middle of the fairway. We called the number on the scorecard and the guy that answered said he wasn't on site and he will TRY and reach someone at the course to assist lol.. what a joke.. nobody showed. There were 2 groups on the tee box waiting to hit so we stood on the side and yelling at them that our cart was dead.. the group finally teed off and then pushed us to the club house.. that was so awesome of them to do that.. when i got there i asked the girl at the cart barn if she received a call and she said no.. unbelievable. Chimera needs to fix that ASAP..
Good course playing for first time here last few holes winds picked up
Where's the cart path?
1st time playing this course. Right away, the staff was very helpful and friendly. The layout is pretty cool but the condition of course is lacking and the cart path is about 25% completed, very strange to play a course without a cart path. Overall, a good value.
Good layout, good value
This is a good course and a great value for the Phoenix area in early April. I'd recommend it.
Dirt Track
We’ve played several of the cheaper courses in the Phoenix area the past 2 weeks and this was by far the worst. The layout is confusing and it was like a construction zone if you weren’t on the fairways. The cart paths are mostly dirt and it was like off roading in a golf cart. The greens are tricky and gimmicky- surprisingly I only 3 putted twice. Good thing we got a discount on GN or I would be really upset if I paid top dollar.
Negative Reviews are BUNK
Arizona is a desert and water does not fall free from the sky. The golf carts are gas but the other option is walking. Anyone who lives here knows how expensive it is to have great value muni courses. It is challenging to anyone who isn’t a tour player. There are elevation changes, hills and water hazards when water is flowing 3 days a year. It’s an amazing value for the money and fun.
I liked it
I liked the layout of the course. And yes, you also get to enjoy a little golf cart off-road adventure at the same time. It's a full course, so you better know how to hit your driver, especially from the tips. The greens are large and challenging/ fast rolling. Just wish they would offer a few more discounts earlier in the day.
Very enjoyable course!
I loved the layout and course was in good shape. Definately not a flat course and has large, challenging greens. I'll definitely be back.. wish there were more deals earlier in the day.
BUMPY
The gas power carts were ok to navigate the hilly often bumpy path sometimes dirt sometimes broken pavement, sometimes gravel. The greens were okay however there was a lot of puddles that resulted in muddy balls in and around the greens. The forward tees were just over 5600 yards which was a bit long for my wife. No shorter options were displayed or available. The fairways were undulating to say the least with your ball often at the bottom of depression or on a side hill. I liked the layout of the course but it could use some smoothing out!
First and last time
Worst condition of all courses this year
Tee boxes rough
Fairways no grass harsh as rock
Greens too much roll not fun to put on
When I asked for a refund I was denied
Di not waste your time or money on this one
