The fairways were rather bare in spots - but the greens were in great condition for this time of year - smooth and true. The only drawback - the course is full and the grill closed around 1:30p or so ... tried calling ahead from the 8th Tee and got a 'sorry, we're closed'. No "Beer & Sandwich Cart' to be found ... so - pack a lunch and enjoy a nice course. Students or Alumni at the bag-drop, starter, etc. - very positive attitudes and courteous. Nice pro-shop and bar. An enjoyable round.

Summer time golf in AZ is awesome. Course is being readied for the fall but was in very good shape. The greens are especially good for summer time greens. Were not punched like a lot of other courses. Had to get used to a faster foll on the greens. They are doing a lot of work to upgrade the course. Very nice. All in all a great afternoon of golf. Got around the course quickly

Love all the changes they are making in this course and we ran into the special rates due to all the cart path improvements being made. More sand now than I care to remember....however, the grade of the sand is excellent. Can't wait for the changes and turf to mature...this course is a lot of fun and very challenging.

There's a lot of turfing and building of new cart paths underway so a bit of a mess. When that's complete this will be a really good course, plenty of room to use a driver and lots of risk reward holes. For $19 a great deal and staff were very friendly.

Most of the car paths have been dug out and the greens were aerated and heavily sanded with no mention of the conditions on golfnow.

The greens fees were way too high for summer and these conditions.

I won't play there again.

Nice course and it does test your shot making abilities. Greens were a bit on the slow side and some of the fairways were suffering from the heat. Had a good playing group and played at a decent pace, even though we had a very slow group ahead of us. Always like playing here because of the variety of shots that can be played. Will be back for another fun time.

Maryvale Golf course has gotten a much needed upgrade. Gone are alot of the shaggier trees that hung all over, and the overgrown unkempt rough areas. Course now has a much more open feel to it while still reminding me of some of the more tree lined courses you see in California or the Midwest. Definitely unique to the valley as its not one of the common desert themed target golf courses. The course wasn't in the greatest shape but it was by no means in bad shape. Pretty dried out in some areas as is common in the phoenix area during summer time. The golf shop and restaurant are top notch and have a very sleek modern look to them. I teed off solo in the afternoon and encountered a few groups who let me play through no problem, staff was friendly enough and had my clubs on the cart when I arrived. Greens are tough, pretty fast and hard. Fairways had the occasional burn spots but nothing major as I have read in some of the other reviews. Water was of abundance throughout the course, maybe every 3 holes which was really nice also coolers on the carts. Great course!

You can play golf in Phoenix for cheap in the summer pretty much anywhere. The layout of the course is great. However the course is a terrible condition. Other than the greens. Everything was consierbly below average. I will not be back. HUGE SANDY AREAS IN THE MIDDLE OF ALMOST EVERY FAIRWAY

This course was in pristine condition. The bunkers had real sand compared to other courses. Everything was well maintained. It does play a little long but everywhere on the course even the rough I had a playable lie where I could make a shot. Very impressed with this course, will definitely be back!!!

The greens were very dry and sandy. Lots of dead areas in the fairways. We breezed through the front 9 in good time and then had to wait 5-10 minutes on every hole on the back 9. Lots more bunkers than when the course was Maryvale, less grass to water maybe. There were a lot of no cart areas further away from the greens then on other courses. Will not go back. We had been waiting for the price to come down to golf this course since it was redone and glad we didn't pay more money than we did.

This is the university course...VERY difficult, so don't play from the tips unless you're a 5 handicap or less.

Greens are fast but smooth. There are a ton of sand traps, with plenty of sand and high lips. They all seem to be strategically placed. The course will definitely challenge you. If you're a 18 handicap or higher this course might have you giving up the game. Find a course which is a little more forgiving.

If you have a hole in your game, this course will find it. However, if you can score well here, you can play just about anywhere. Be prepared to shoot 4-8 strokes higher than your average.

Very enjoyable round.

Course was nice, but other golfers playing were rude and very slow. Small groups not keeping up with the group in front of them. We were a foursome and waited on almost every hole for a twosome in front of us playing very slow and hitting multiple balls on every shot.

Had a great time playing this course! The conditions were different from what I am used to being from the Northeast but were surprising good considering the consistently hot temperatures recently. The greens were quick but smooth and the fairways lacked many areas with dead grass. The staff was also very friendly both in the clubhouse and at the bag drop when your first start your round. The course did have some challenging sand trap placements but the layout of the course was extremely forgiving regarding tee shots. I would absolutely play this course again and highly recommend it for the money.
