This was my first round here, and my last. The course is actually well designed and challenging, but none of that makes any difference when you're one of three groups waiting to T off at every PAR 3. The pace was unacceptably slow for the entire round. There wasn't a hole that we didn't stand around and wait, and wait, and wait. We played for 4.5 hours, and were still only able to finish thru 15 before nightfall. The starter advised me that they had, "Double bookings," for the day, and that the pace was fairly good considering that. Double bookings? It's unfortunate, because the course could be very enjoyable, but the absolute booking saturation made the round a frustrating waste of time.

Wings8341,

Thank you for your feedback. Please share with us your starting time from the 22nd.

Our last group to finish 18 holes teed off at 2:34 pm. That gives our pace of play just under 4.5 hours. You can help us better understand where we were mistaken in tracking that information by providing the group name or starting time.

For the fastest pace of play in season we recommend early morning times all across the valley. March is the busiest month of the year in Phoenix and therefore even the afternoon times tend to be very popular. Hopefully you will reconsider playing our course again in the future.

Thank You

-GCU Golf Course Staff

Lucked out and had 1st tee time after they held a college tournament so pace of play and playing competitors were great. Greens were by far a challenge keeping the ball on the green. Will be back for sure.

What a great place to spend the afternoon. The amount of money was well spent to upgrade this course. Never played the old course but what an adventure this place is. It leaves you begging for more with no forgiveness. Have your short game together because the greens are incrediable. Position is key off the tees because of the mid fairway sand and the approach shot will depend on it. Hole 5,6, and 7 are what I call amen corner. All need to be hit with a draw, fade and draw. Straight shots are good but your laying back with a mid iron on all 3 holes if you do. The back nine seems easier to me because of the longer length holes. 15 and 16 will make your round or break it. Bunkers everywhere and a well hit drive is key. This course is worth a couple visits. Sometimes your waiting and sometimes your scrambling. That's what this course brings.. I shot an 82 from the tips with 2 doubles and 1 triple. All were putts missed

I have played this course twice in the past month and thoroughly enjoyed both rounds....the pace of play was somewhat slow but that can be justified by the fact that this is not your average course. The layout of the course is superb, the greens challenging and the mature grounds without the usual residences on the grounds all can contribute to slowing the pace of play in a good way because the course requires focus.....

A very pleasant place to spend an afternoon attempting and sometimes succeeding to test your golf game.

Greens were very bumpy and full of divot marks. I asked a staff person and they confirmed that the greens are dyed dormant Bermuda and were not overseeded with a winter grass. This is very unusual for a championship course with mid range green fees . Will not play this course again...bad value. The staff were very nice and honest about the green conditions.

This course is much improved from its Maryvale days, but they couldn't do much about the original layout and the holes are just on top of one another. This can be OK if the course isn't very busy, but the course was packed on the day I played. An errant shot from another hole just missed my head as I drove my cart down the fairway!!! If the GPS unit atop the upper part of the cart hadn't deflected the golf ball, I wouldn't be writing this review right now.

A good course in general. There is a need of a restroom on the back nine.

When greens are fast they need to be in better condition.

I believe the nines should be reversed.

older course facelifted with the take over by Grand Canyon University, nice club house, new construction, geens and fairway very good condition, difficulty moderate, older style Phoenix course with out elevation changes or character, streets run along edges of course so street noise ever present, while price to play very affordable, pace of play great until we hit 3 group back up at hole #8 then back nine very deliberate wait at every tee box only finished 17 holes before darkness with 2:30 tee time so talking 41/2 hour round not bad for winter golf in Phoenix area where I have played 5 1/2 to six hour rounds on nicer Scottsdale courses

Great re-do! Greens very consistent and smooth. Bunkers are probably too steep and penal from both a maintenance standpoint and contribute to slow play. It took a few minutes over FIVE HOURS to play with no ranger at all!

Also, no on course rest room.
