The greens were very dry and sandy. Lots of dead areas in the fairways. We breezed through the front 9 in good time and then had to wait 5-10 minutes on every hole on the back 9. Lots more bunkers than when the course was Maryvale, less grass to water maybe. There were a lot of no cart areas further away from the greens then on other courses. Will not go back. We had been waiting for the price to come down to golf this course since it was redone and glad we didn't pay more money than we did.

This is the university course...VERY difficult, so don't play from the tips unless you're a 5 handicap or less.

Greens are fast but smooth. There are a ton of sand traps, with plenty of sand and high lips. They all seem to be strategically placed. The course will definitely challenge you. If you're a 18 handicap or higher this course might have you giving up the game. Find a course which is a little more forgiving.

If you have a hole in your game, this course will find it. However, if you can score well here, you can play just about anywhere. Be prepared to shoot 4-8 strokes higher than your average.

Very enjoyable round.

Course was nice, but other golfers playing were rude and very slow. Small groups not keeping up with the group in front of them. We were a foursome and waited on almost every hole for a twosome in front of us playing very slow and hitting multiple balls on every shot.

Had a great time playing this course! The conditions were different from what I am used to being from the Northeast but were surprising good considering the consistently hot temperatures recently. The greens were quick but smooth and the fairways lacked many areas with dead grass. The staff was also very friendly both in the clubhouse and at the bag drop when your first start your round. The course did have some challenging sand trap placements but the layout of the course was extremely forgiving regarding tee shots. I would absolutely play this course again and highly recommend it for the money.

Overall the course a little dry, fairways had some dead areas and greens where sandy and slick ball would slid then start rolling. Overall bunkers not bad at least had sand, not the AZ dirt you find on most AZ courses. But course does have a lot of bunkers around all the greens. I have seen the course in better shape when it was known as Maryvale but since I played it at the beginning of summer may be in better shape when the college is in session

Really great staff at GCU's golf course. Everything is new so it looks immaculate when you walk in the clubhouse. The course is in great condition and we were able to play all 18 after teeing off at 3:15pm. Would play here every week if I still lived in AZ.

Love this place; parkland style course within Phoenix city limits. Well trapped, fast elevated greens (no lucky breaks) Leave your desert club in the trunk. Actually some shade to find in the dead of summer, also- A must play in my book

I have been trying to get on this course for almost six months. I visit Arizona pretty regularly and was excited to hear about this course and had to get on. Every time I wanted to book however, the times always seemed to start in the later afternoon with no morning tee times. Well, first day I am out here again, full times available. I suspect it has something to do with classes being in session and only having open tee times in the morning reserved.

That aside, a beautiful, LONG, golf course. A true challenge due to its layout rather than its condition. Very large greens, beautiful fairways and damp sand traps that are a PAIN!

The staff is friendly and make sure that the players keep pace and that timings are fair. It was an extremely fun time. Easily the best value for such a beautiful course on the west valley.

Course was really in nice shape, the fairways were flush and the greens rolled true. the layout was really nice and there are a lot of new bunkers. My only complaint is that the beverage cart did not have any ice and it was 98 degrees. Yikes!

First time playing the GCU course and was excited based on the previous recent reviews. Experience was meh at best. Looks like most of the $8 million went to the clubhouse and grill which were both very nice. Course layout gave you many different looks and challenged me to position the ball on some holes while giving me room to hit driver on some. Overall some good holes on there.

Was disappointed in the course conditions... many bare spots but they are trying to make improvements. They need another $3-$5 million to bring fairways and rough areas up to par. Would I go back? Probably not, the $29'deal after 12 was about the max I would pay given current conditions. With some more money and further TLC, could become a really decent course. Keep trying guys, we can see the effort.

Pace of play was at 5 hours with backups at most par 3s... much too long, but they did have a tournament finishing up by the time I teed off. Course looks like it gets heavy play and possibly due to 72 degree day in May which probably brought some less experienced players out.

Easy to find but on a busy corner, parking seems small if they were to be busy ,easy check in ,they need to explain the gps system better and it is helpful when you get to using it, the cart boys need to check the sand bottles better, now to the course, somewhat dry but I found the fairways pretty nice to hit from, fairly easy to find your way around , there are bunkers all over but you can get around or over them most of the time and the sand is quite nice and there is at least some in each bunker, all the greens are elevated are pretty fast and they are the nicest that I have played on so far this year ,they look good roll nice and you can just stroke the putts and most of the greens are pretty good size, there is lots of drinking water and there was ice in the cart cooler there is a place to eat but didn't use. I would come back when the price is right.

Last played this course when it was the Maryville golf course. They have done a re-do of much of this course. With new tee boxes and many additional sand traps, some re-shaping of the holes presented the look of a new course for us. Brand new club house, pro-shop, and restaurant were also built. Good practice facilities as well - so all-in-all this course is worth playing again!!
