Sun City South Golf Course
About
The Sun City South Golf Course is normally a private club but during the summer months, public play is allowed. The course has a traditional layout with four sets of teeboxes for a variety of different golfing options, which allow golfers to work on a range of different handicaps. The golf course has a fair share of challenges with several sand bunkers and plenty of trees scattered throughout. There are also out-of-bounds stakes providing more difficulty. Water hazards come into play on some holes as well. The Sun City South Golf Course facility has a putting green and chipping area for golfers to use in addition to the course.

Sun City South Golf Course
Hello I'm Hawk, I'm a 12 Handicap. The Sun City South Golf Course from the parking lot to the Pro Shop was extremely clean, neat, and tidy. Although the Club House seemed a bit dated but clean none the less. I was greeted nicely by the Pro Shop attendant. He indicated to me that I could either play with a group that was scheduled to go out in a 15 minutes or wait and play as a single. I thought that selection or options I was given was exactly what I wanted to hear. I like options! Today I did not want to play with anyone. I just wanted to enjoy the North Phoenix sun while playing/hitting multiple golf balls from different angles. The mature trees around the golf course provides a lot of needed shade in this desert climate. Most Tee Boxes were shaded by the mature Trees. Summers can be challenging heat wise here in Phoenix. However, the mature tree's shade makes the round a little more bearable. Furthermore, the golf course fairways were manicured/cut nicely. NOTE: There were multiple fairways that had some burned out looking spots "sporadically" throughout the front nine and back nine. The ruff areas in the extreme outer borders of the golf course needed a little cutting back or pruning. The greens were in Pretty Good Shape. The greens could stand a little speeding up however, the greens were noticeable rolling true to the line you putt the golf ball on. Overall from the service rendered, great course conditions, cost, and play-ability of this golf course I will be back to play this course again.
A good day
Pace of play on front nine was excellent while back nine was slower but still good pace for overall 18 holes.
Intresting layout on a rather flat course.
3 par threes and 3 par fives. Good greens. Decent value.
Great Shape!
I don't take time to make reviews often but this winter, the South course has been in such great shape! Fairways and greens are 10/10.
First time played in March
Course is long, but flat and few trees or diffoculty. Fairways and greens were in very good condition. Watch if the cost inckudes the $31 cart. A bit pricey surprise.
Course
Staff very friendly and hopeful. Fairways and greens in good condition. Second cut alittle brown and spotty. Overall nice course will play again
First Impressions Important
Would it hurt to smile and say hello? Our first time at this course and the grumpy guy at the desk made for a poor first impression.
The course was ok and a bit boring. Little in the way of challenges.
Probably not be back
Nice Pedestrian Course
Fairways in good shape, greens recently plugged with extra small holes that were of little consequence. We finished in 3:55 which is good and even above average. Front nine greens were considerably easier than the back nine greens. +2/3 strokes is my best guess. Outside the fairways was either rock hard dirt under thinly dormant grass or mud underneath. My partners whined about it, but didn’t bother me. Greens were slower than the practice green which is an issue, but not uncommon. 5-some put out frequently and slowed us down a little. All in all a good outing
Great condition, solid length. Greens are tricky with firmness and break. Tight fairways, but forgiving width on holes makes it playable for all.
I didn't play
The Clubhouse left their friends a group of 5 go to the tee and that started the back up. There was as many as
3 groups are waiting to tee off on the first tee. And I played there for years. I played their year round and they refused to give me a golf cart. They came up with some kind of rule that they can only let 3 golf carts out at a time. So I couldn't have a golf cart first time. I ran into that and they were very unfriendly and just sort of laughing about it.
Great value
Considering the amount of play at this course , both the fairways and greens were in excellent shape.
Despite being a flat course ,the layout provided considerabe diversity
We got in on a twilight 12:52 pm deal that made this a superior for the money
We enjoyed this course. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape. Not an exciting course for the front nine. Fairly standard with good bunkers and slightly tiered greens. The back nine was much more challenging because the green had false fronts and were domed. It also had 3 of the hardest par 3’s we had encountered in the last year. Two were 100% over water and the third was over 200 yards from the whites. Not complaining about the par 3’s. They just added to the course interest. I would play this course again. It was an amazing value. Staff was great.
Five Somes. Interesting
Five somes and six somes a regular occurrence at this and a couple of other Sun City courses. Expect slow play. Club management doesn’t enforce a four some rule in Sun City
Hot deal made this fantastic
Course in really good shape, interesting layout and pretty long track. Everything was good + and played pretty well and that always helps. Very walkable and for $36 bucks at 1:07 a great deal!
South rocks
Course in excellent shape, staff very friendly, played 18 in less than 4 hours. Always enjoy coming here. Excellent value
Fabulous course conditions!
Over-seeded fairways, green surrounds and greens were in excellent condition. In my experience as good as Augusta National! Course layout is quite good for the age of the course, including well placed bunkering. Some greens are challenging, but overall are very manageable even if you don’t play the course often. It is a great course for the money!
