The Genoa Lakes Golf Club's Lakes Course brings water into Lake Tahoe-Reno golf. It's found on 14 of the 18 hole on the Lakes Course and it's not always nice tame water of staid old country clubs either. Sometimes you'll be shooting over near swamps with tall gnarly grasses poking out of them. That's the Lakes Course.

It's one of the more natural settings in an area known for its nature settings. You'll see cows along the border of the course - and birds will come flying up that you probably can't identify.

Lakes Course is a Peter Jacobsen and John Harbottle III design with rolling fairways, some tight shot openings and good views. It's 7,359 yards of golf with the Carson River and wetlands riding shotgun. It's located in Carson Valley, an often forgotten town, that's right inbetween the big gaming spots of Reno and Lake Tahoe. That makes Genoa Lakes Golf Club a pretty easy course to get to from most of the popular areas in the High Sierras.

The greens had just been sanded. They normally include range ball but GolfNow customers required to pay.

bad greens

Course was in great shape, however the greens had been punched and sanded. Usually not a big problem, but these were horrible, sand was more like small gravel. Not even possible to actually putt. I will have try this course again when the greens are healthy. Could use a marshal as too many foursomes partying more than playing golf.

Genoas Lakes after aerating greens

The greens were not in playable shape. The greens had been aerated and sanded 5 days before, as stated =by the person I checked in with. I wouldn't have known that until I got out on the course had I not asked if any work had been done recently. The sand on the greens was very course, the greens had been dragged but there was still a LOT of sand on top of the grass. That made putting VERY challenging/difficult. Rest of the course was in great shape, although the bunkers were a bit firm.

A Warning Would have Been Nice

We played Ranch last month and it was nice. The Lake is even better. However, it. would haven nice o know that the greens. Had recently be punched and sanded with very coarse sand.

Other than that enjoyed the course. Watch out for the water .

Genoa Heaven

Marysville native, first time there. From the clubhouse to the 18th hole absolutely great! Staff was very courteous and informative. Course conditions 10 out of 10!! Tee boxes were solid and not chewed up, fairways smooth, no divots, and the the biggest fringe arson’s the green was fun!! No potholes left from others,. Extremely well kept from box to pin!! Will be back to visit again for sure, highly recommended this course!! Thank for your hospitality!!!!

Nice course in good condition

First time playing the Lakes course, I played the Ranch course 2 days ago. This course is obviously flatter, more water, and 300 yards shorter (from the blue tees) than the Ranch course. The biggest difference is the quality and condition of the greens. The Lakes course greens were perfect, with consistent conditions for all 18 holes. Both courses are fun to play and offer different challenges. The Lakes course has a larger clubhouse, pro shop, bar, etc. The staff at both places were great!! Have fun.

Solid course

Need to play this course a few times in order to figure out where to hit your tee shot.
Some fairways are blocked by trees and small ponds, but good overall!

Genoa Lakes Course

Very good golf course especially for the price on Golfnow. Fun and challenging course with lots of open fairways. Greens are in good condition.

Summer golfing

I played it with my older son and we had a great time on a well maintained golf course with plenty on challenging holes. I recommend only one thing to always have bug spray if you play in the warm weather.

Mosquito Swamp!!!

An entertaining course with well groomed fairways and greens. But... the course was totally infested with mosquitoes. There are lots of lakes and ponds on the course and apparently no effort to control the mosquitoes. We stayed in the surrounding area and noticed no mosquitoes but on this course they were almost unbearable. Part of our foursome had planned to play 36 holes but considered leaving after 14 because of the mosquito swarms.
