Excellent neighborhood golf course
I have worked for/played at this course since it opened in 2000. Staff is the best! Ask for Shelby, Ellwood, or Diane! Casual, no-frills, family-owned operation. Course is in average condition, with a 3 or 4 rough spots, but overall pretty good, and a good value for the price. I play here often and we have a solid core group of regulars. Great place for beginners or a casual outing with family or friends.
COULD be a great course
However the current conditions warrant it mediocre at best. Tees mostly bare, fairways mostly junk grass and patchy, greens have some junk grass are patchy and bumpy. Front 9 has a few hard doglegs. #2 is border line unfair from blues. Need a 260 drive with less than 10 yards of side movement coming out of chute to have anything more than a PW 2nd shot on a par 5. Other hard doglegs require position shots with only around 20 yards of play so distance is critical. Other than clubhouse attendant and snack lady, I didn’t see another worker on a Saturday morning. With some attention this could be a great course. 1st 2some out so cruised in 3 hrs. Wouldn’t play again in current condition. If you just want to go out a knock a ball around it will due.
Great layout
This course has steadily improved over the years. Loads of doglegs with narrow landing areas. A course that will give you a good challenge.
Fun course
Second time I’ve played here. It’s a diverse course with well-placed traps and a good amount of water hazards. One of the greens was a little rough, but this is a nice course for the price. Look back from the green at 16 for an unexpected view of the Chesapeake.
Course was in rough shape
Played 18 today with my friend. We have been playing nice 4-5 star courses lately and noticed a difference in quality right away. Some of the fairways were dead and the greens needed work. The course just seemed outdated and as if it hadn’t had maintenance done in a while. The pace of play was good although 90% of the golfers we seen were walking.
Furnace bay
Course was in pretty bad shape for all the rain we’ve had. Some holes were great, others were not. Staff was very friendly
Practice for a tournament
We have a tournament at this course so we decided to play since we have never played this course before. The front nine and back nine are totally different. Front nine is tight with a lot of blind shots. Tee boxes overall were fair. A few greens were under repair. Fairways were decent. Back nine wide open and will help you lower your score from the front.
Good course
Played Furnace Bay nice course - pace of play was great - will play again
Good value and relaxed environment
Varied and challenging terrain keeps things interesting with a great pace of play. Nice country layout and a good value. Enjoyable day, would like to play again.
Fun Day
Played 18 with my son, from the Sr. Tees. Very enjoyable round. Course in great shape, but cart path only due to days of rain. Challenging layout, with a number of blind tee shots. Scenic, hilly course. Nice staff and amenities. Recommend.
Shotmakers Course.
Hit them straight because this is definitely a dhotmakers course. A very unique layout which demands precision on over half of the holes. Has some straight forward holes. Worth playing.
Just OK
Second time playing course; its nothing remarkable. Course conditions were not very good...greens were patchy /poorly maintained, and fairways were long and shaggy. The layout is also very quirky, especially holes 2 thru 6, very tight! Plus, no clear direction to the next hole. Several holes play short off tee, and can easily go long and over hit if you're unfamiliar with layout. Had cheap HotDeal round, but I would never pay more than $25 for this track.
Great Value
This was my first time playing this course and I'll be back. This was my first time out this year and went with my wife and we both had a great time. The greens were a little beat up, but not too bad. The staff was friendly as were the other players. The course wasn't crowded at all. We only played 9 and the person at the pro shop said we could play the back 9 if wanted to, because it is less challenging, so that is what we did. I look forward to my next round here.
Greens were aerated today; not that big of a deal it just added a couple of strokes to my final score. Pace of play was terrible I started off alone and caught another single that started about 20 mins before me, but he was slowed by another single who was walking and would not let him play through. No excuse for this and the staff needs to address this. Overall the course was in decent shape and the staff was friendly.
Can't believe they are even open
I've played this course a few times. In its early years it was great and I loved it. Well so much has changed. I went after work to play 9 today, they tried to charge me for 18. They then said you have to play the front 9. But holes 2,5,6,7 were all being aerated to me that means there are a few holes in the ground but it should be playable. Well not here, there was no grass at all! The fairway was dirt and mud and unplayable! I cannot believe they actually charged me and had me go off and play. Do not go here until maybe next year.
greatly improved
The supplied reviews are outdated, and were accurate in 2013. Since 2013 there has been a lot of work done to bring the course back to it's potential. I also labored around this course in 2013. Since then the crabgrass has been eliminated in the fairways and the rough. The traps were full of pebbles. That problem has been eliminated. The greens and fairways are in excellent condition. The only drawback about the course is that the tees are undersized, causing them to get beat up as the season wears on. My advice to readers of these reviews is to disregard those from 2013. Go out there and enjoy the course , the views and the price which are the lowest in the area.
3 Very Tough Holes
I liked this course and as an amatuer golfer, I found it fun and challenging. The 4th, 5th & 6th holes were the hardest holes on the course. They were very short dog leg holes that were tough to even think about hitting the green in regulation. I lost about 5 balls on these holes. You almost have to play these holes to see how tough and odd they are. I have played tricky courses before, but these three holes (especially the 5th) were the strangest I have ever seen. You are hitting blind most of the holes.
Nice views!!!
