A Beast!
Played the Blues (6739/73.1/140) with GDR23 and a father/son. POP was 4H, 15M in sunny, muggy conditions with at most a 1 club breeze part of the round.
Played better than my 1st attempt here, but enjoyed the course less. Typical Pete Dye design, numerous mounds and bunkers complete with challenging sight lines on almost every hole. You almost never have a level lie after your tee shot because of all the mounds/moguls. There is nothing about this course easy from tee to green.
The tees were lush and well maintained, only some par 3's had a decent amount of divot damage.
The fairways were lush, few places with severe divots.
The rough was lush. You could lose a ball you dropped if you went to your cart to change clubs and did not mark where you dropped it. Numerous delays looking for balls not that far off fairways for all players in our group on multiple holes. Created a POP issue, it was nasty and penal.
The plentiful sand traps were well maintained with good quality sand. There are many HUGE traps on this course, a few with 10' to 15' banks/lips to hit over. Avoiding the sand here is a MUCH higher priority than almost any other course I have ever played. An odd thing is that the cart path runs the entire length of several waste bunkers. So you may well be playing off tire tracks if you hit into them.
The Bermuda greens putted nice. Medium speed, very consistent, firm and relatively smooth for Bermda.
Overall, this is a challenging layout and the conditions were excellent. The customer service was top notch. Cart gal around numerous times. Even playing the appropriate tees, the average golfer is probably going to shoot 3-5 strokes higher on this course than they are accustomed to. Definitely recommended with the above in mind.
Not for the mid to high handicapper
The course was in excellent condition and the pace of play was acceptable. This course is famous for a number of reasons, including its difficulty. If you can shoot a legitimate score equal to your handicap, you have had an excellent day. Very challenging and lots of fun if you are playing well.
Spectacular Course
One of the best courses in the CV! Tough layout and so many challenging and fun holes!
Awesome Experience
The course was immaculate! A great experience to end our annual golf trip. Our tee time was at 3pm so tough to squeeze in all 18 holes, but we did it! Great selection of merchandise in the proshop. The laser engraved bag tag is the way to go!
A real treat
Obviously, a great course. Staff was very friendly and expedient. Could’ve used a ranger on the course to speak people up, and definitely have a water station or two. Bring your own water as you are in the desert.
Really slow round … great greens
Course is in great shape; greens were fantastic and quick! Pace of play … bring a book. Make sure to book your time NO LATER than 1:30/1:45 if you want to finish in the daylight. Course is booked (which is good), but the play is slow (course wants a 4.5 hour round)… it was a 5 hour 10 min round on Monday.
Such SLOW Pace
Sadly the pace of play ruined what should have been a quality experience at one of my favourite courses in the area. Front side took 2 1/2 hours to play! Waiting on every tee box. Back 9 slightly better at 2:15 hrs. Past times playing here marshalls did a much better job with pace of play.
Course in excellent shape
This was a couples day at golf. Course was in excellent shape with great pin placement
a MUST play course
excellent challenge for those who aspire to play at a higher level
In great condition very challenging
The staff was great. The course was terrific. The pace of play was just a little slow not bad. I had a great time.
