Bring your best game!
Lush perfect fairways, spongy rough, hard to play from and find balls. Tree lined holes if you miss by more than a bit. Big, old trees.
Fairway and green bunkers placed by the Devil. Water here and there, but not in play as much as a threat for a bad shot.
Bunkers with different white grainy sand, very tough. Tough chipping and flops near greens due to spongy rough.
Greens firm and fair, but subtle breaks. Generally fast. As mentioned, it’s all in front of you. Hit it straight or die.
The South Course
I had the privilege of playing the newly renovated South course at Olympia Fields during a members / guest outing on June 18th. I played the South course prior to the renovations and from what I remember the South course is even more beautiful after the renovations. The holes on the front nine have been renumbered. They removed trees and softened the areas with continuous short grass between the tees and greens. The bunkers have been reworked and the area around the lake on holes 13 & 14 have also been softened with short grass, which helped blend into the rest of the course. The entire staff inside and out are top notch and very professional.
BMW Site but fun for us mortals!
As a mid-handicapper it was an amazing experience to play where the best of the Tour will be challenged this August to earn a spot in the Tour Championship. Tree lined fairways and a mix of bombs away and precise tee shots makes the course a lot of fun and a big challenge. On one visit, moves to top of my pretty amazing top courses played list.
The North Course
I had the pleasure of being invited to play the North course on 8/16/22. It’s been at least 20 years since I have played the North course. I have to say it is just as beautiful as I remember. The course is immaculate from the fairways to the perfect greens. If you play the correct tees, you will enjoy yourself. But make no mistake this course is no pushover. Olympia Fields wouldn’t be hosting major golf tournaments if it was. Being sort of a novice golf history buff, you can’t help being caught up thinking of all the great players that have walked these grounds. All the staff from inside to out are extremely friendly and professional, and made me feel very welcomed. I even met a few members of the club, and they also made me feel just as welcomed. Olympia Fields is first class. I can wait to get invited back.
Olympia Fields that place is HUGE
It was an honor to be able to accept an invitational to play the North course at Olympia Fields. The property is huge and everything about it is done right. The drive range is great. The locker room is insane and they make sure you put a nice card on your locker with your name on it. I couldn't have been more pleased with that part of the experience.
Golf course was in great shape also. I can totally see how they host big events like US open or BMW. The property is is huge and they can make that rough as thick as they need too. Luckily it wasn't crazy for us.
Accuracy is a most. If your not straight you are hitting punch shots all the time. Which I did!!
I really loved the stretch of holes from 12-16. With hole 14 being my favorite. Although it is BRUTALLY tough it is very picturesque and well designed but so so hard.'
My only gripe about the course is I felt it didn't receive balls very well. Lots of pitch shots or knock down shots from the fairway would skid all the way to the back. Not what you expect from a top notch course. The greens were rollin really good well though.
All in all great experience. If you get the chance dont pass it up.
People
Course was great, it’s a private club and the people / member are some of the most ignorant people I have ever met.
