#15 on La Quinta's Mountain is laying along the base of the mountains - stay tight to the base and go for this par 5 in two. The green stays snug up against the base and will not be in full view.

Never Again!

Played this course on Friday, September 8, 2017. Was looking forward to it after reading some of the reviews of the course. While on the practice green, our group noticed the greens were extremely slow and bushy, nothing was rolling and when you did hit it harder, the ball really wouldn't roll but rather come to an abrupt stop. The fairways were in terrible condition as well, with grooves and gaps from their aeration of the course we were assuming. There was no mention of the greens nor the fairways being aerated and no "advisory notices" on the GolfNow website.

The greens were the real issue, super slow and very fury so the ball would never really roll. You could hit a bump and run and all you got was the bump. I wish the course would have informed the players of the condition of the course and we all could have saved some aggravation.

We played Desert Willow-Firecliff and the Marriott Shadow Ridge course the following days and needless to say, those courses made up for any lack of confidence we might have had for golf courses in the desert!

Thank you for your comments on The Mountain Course at La Quinta Resort & Club. We appreciate the time and effort that you put into your review - any feedback we receive from our guests is invaluable in our quest for continuous improvement. At the time you played, the course had just come out of an aerification and it generally takes ten days for the course to recover. However, the greens took longer to recover because of the extreme heat and humidity we experienced this summer. Aggressive summer agronomic practices are necessary to help promote healthy turf conditions - and it is not an exact science. The other courses in the valley perform aerification at various times during the summer so all courses are not in the same condition at the same time. The construction you encountered next to the course was due to a drainage basin that had to be installed because of flooding into the houses next to the course. We feel badly that you did not enjoy your round - that is not the way we want anyone to leave after playing our course(s). Please contact our Clubhouse Manager, Alan Bonin at 760-564-5712 - we would like to invite you back to play under better circumstances.

Fairways are perfect.

Afternoon pricing is probably the best value currently in the desert. Overall course was in nice shape. The greens are green.....not much else to say other than, hard, bumpy and a little on the slow side. Fairways are top notch. Bunkers would be great with a little more maintenance. Some of the sand had a crust on it but there was sand in the traps. If you found yourself in one that had been raked that day the sand was very playable. Not far off, this will be in awesome shape. The greens are healthy enough to go shorter not sure why they don't, probably something to do with how hard the surface is. I heard the course was closed for a bit because of storm damage back in Sept. Probably why the conditioning is not what it usually is but the price more than makes up for it in the afternoons. Not super long but still a good challenge for low handicaps. I would say if you're playing around the time this is posted you're more than getting your money's worth.

Terrible Greens

Played here a few times before. Starter said greens were very fast. Got on course and greens were slow and in terrible condition. Sprinklers were coming on the entire day soaking the areas around us. Overall course condition was not good. Won’t be back for a couple years.

Beautiful, challenging but not punitive

One of the coolest back nines I've played. holes wander through foothills with nobody else nearby and view of the Coachella Valley. Course has more rough that is playable than most desert courses, so it's playable if you're a mid handicapper. Lots of undulations and level changes. Greens were especially hard and bumpy when we played. Clubhouse and staff were great. I'd put this on your list!

Course under repair

I love this course, but the rains last year did major damage to the course. They are still getting it bacck in shape. If you played here in the past, 2024 might not live up to your expectations. But it will be back!

Beautiful course, but typical Dye confusion on front nine

The course was beautiful, with the typical Pete Dye confusion on the front nine. First timers should be warned to get a yardage book, as the front nine has craters and bumps that conceal the correct way to play it.
Fairways were perfect, but the greens were ugly and spotty, not up to the same expected standard.
