About

Holes 18
Type Public
Par 72
Length 7041 yards
Slope 133
Rating 72.7

Colorado-born designer Andy Johnson created the 18-hole, public course at the Saddleback Golf Club. It is located in Firestone, just north of Denver. The championship course features 7,019 yards of golf from its longest tees and plays to a par of 72. The terrain resembles a classic prairie with views of mountains from both the north and the south. The links-style golf course features large, undulating greens and open, rolling fairways. There are also man-made lakes scattered throughout the course that create water hazards on some of the holes. Saddleback Golf Club has many challenging holes, two to note are the fourth, which has an island green, and the seventh, which features a split fairway.

$78 dollars to walk this course

No junior rate . $78 dollars to walk in October when greens were punched and average . Range balls looked like they were 5 years old . The adds say the course is not normal , agreed living on a different planet with those prices .this is not a country club just an average course in the middle of nowhere

Super Friendly Course and Staff

The drive up to Firestone to play this course is worth your time. Saddleback has a good layout in a fun atmosphere, and I always have a good time there.

Saddle back has a lot of fun holes that you can attack in different ways, plenty of risk/reward out there. I like that the only houses near the course are located on the outside edges, and they never feel very close. The course is mostly wide open, so you can swing away if you want to hit a lot of drivers, just watch out for some of the water features. There are a few lakes and creeks that will grab your ball.

The 4th hole is cool. It has an Island green, the only one I’ve seen in the state, 13 is a gettable par 5, but look out for the creek right in front of the green, and 16 is an awesome par 4! The green is driveable, but it’s all carry (220-260 depending on tees) over the lake, or send an iron out to the fairway for a wedge in.

Conditions at Saddleback are always pretty good and the greens tend to roll well. Staff out there is friendly, and a fun track to play. Look out for their deals that the course emails in their newsletter, sometimes you can snag a great rate!

Engaging, well-designed course, super friendly staff

This was a course that's been on the list to try. Good reports and a twilight rate lured us out. The staff made the check-in easy. Rangeballs without COVID-19 time constraints were included, a nice bonus. We started on #10. #11 requires a bit of carry to avoid the ESA, it's 182 to center from the black tees, & 115 from silver. #13 has an inobvious, ball eating creek just before the green. Many greens were guarded by greenside bunkers. #3 is a raised peninsula green, don't err long. #4 is a really fun, tough island plus green. The black tees are not on the annoying cheat grass covered mound behind the gold tees, they are further, follow a walking path further from #3's green to find it. An extra ball or two can be useful if you fade. The course seemed quite well-designed, especially if you are playing the silver tees as a lady golfer. My wife found it still engaging without feeling like those silver tees were an afterthought. Nice job, Mr. Johnson! Golf surfcarts are an $26 option, though you have to reserve one well in advance. They're justifiably popular. Some of the ponds have nice wildlife like turtles, goldfish (#18'), herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, bass, and carp. This is a fun course that will engage most of the recreational golf crowd. Enjoy! We did!

Over priced!

$65.00 to walk this course on a Saturday. Ridiculous!
I have played this course several time over the last 5 years and it has always been reasonably priced until today. Is it due to Covid? They have a brand new clubhouse so I guess it has to be paid for by raising the rates 35%.

Fun Venue with Great Mountain Views

This course is within 30-45 minute drive from most places in Denver Metro, just off of I-25 or U.S. 85 in Firestone.

Saddleback is one of the few Denver Metro golf courses remaining open during COVID-19 and they had the protocol well organized - online tee times only and when you pull into the parking lot they have a sign with phone number to call into pro shop to pay over the phone. Friendly staff asked me if this was my first time playing (which how many courses do that?!) and explained the routine. Nice practice area with everything all close together and driving range adjacent to first tee. They even have a chipping / sand practice area next to the parking lot. Clubhouse looks awesome, and they had entry/exit door and bathroom doors open so don't have to touch any surfaces.

Course was in very good condition and one of few area courses open right now not springtime aerated greens so they were smooth and rolled out probably at 10 or so. Fairways and rough were in nice shape. Fun challenges with plenty of fairway and greenside bunkering and some holes that were almost like island greens but with enough acreage to land your ball. Gorgeous views of the entire Front Range with Long's Peak staring right at you. Pace of play just a bit over 4 hours. Wind at 10-20 and gusty/changing directions made club selection tricky so was important not to over-analyze club selection and commit to the shot. For many errant tee shots you might be in an adjacent fairway or rough so felt confident in gripping it and ripping it. I felt the $63.00 to walk 18 might be a tad steep, maybe $50.00 would be my rate, but hey they gotta make a profit and overall excellent golf experience. I will return to play here again and recommend this course to anyone.

A Great Course with Great Views

Played here on a Thursday afternoon, and thought it was a very nice course. Quite busy, but a steady pace of play was not affected. Fantastic clubhouse and off-course amenities. Course was pretty open, but with water hazards on a handful of holes. Trees are no issue at all. Greens were fast and true. My son and I really enjoyed Saddleback and the beautiful views of the front range and Long Peak. We only had one complaint: the current top dressing on the course is way too gravely and scratched up the soles on a couple of my clubs pretty badly. I hope they use a finer top dressing sand in the future. Again, generally a very nice, and very playable course.

Fun course, excellent personality

This is a neat course that is going to be terrific in a few years as it matures. The holes are laid out nicely, with some challenges and some relief. The rough is thick, so you'll be penalized by missing the fairway, but not so thick that you can't find your errant shots. Some of the greens have terrific undulations, giving you some eventful putts if your approach isn't stellar.

The personality of this course is what makes it a lot of fun - the course guide is truly humorous, and the staff are very helpful and true to the fun atmosphere starting with a visit to their website.

The island greens make for some fun approaches. My only complaint was that the greens were very sandy - but we may have played shortly after some treatment had been applied, so I'm willing to let that go. The rental clubs used in my group were in good condition. The pace of play was good - just over 4 hours for 18 holes.

I enjoyed this course, as did my parents and brother--in-law (30+ handicaps).

The Best Course in the Area

This is the best course in the area. While Ute Creek is a really nice course, it is way too hard. Saddleback is easier than Ute Creek but still challenging. It is well maintained and just an overall nice course.
