Stay Away
I play here a half dozen times a year due to the copious amount of great Southern California golf there is. This course has three 9-hole tracks which all offer something different. The starters here are usually young college kids with bad attitudes but that is a whole ball of wax not worth reviewing.
Long story short they have completely destroyed the fairways on the Friars 9hole with 4 or 5 fairways LITERALLY GONE and to the dirt with caution tape around it. The cart girl said "we use the grass on the Friar fairways to replant the other two with...then why and I paying $60!! It was terrible moreover they don't even tell you this in the clubhouse. They mentioned a new Superintendent took over. They have their work cut out for them. I wouldn't touch this course right now with a ten foot pole and will give them maybe a YEAR until they start growing grass again. Play elsewhere even if you are in business and staying near Hotel Circle.
Fantastic Condition right now (APR’24)
First timer here. Friendly welcome from staff. Proactive Starter ensured no wasted slots and paired up players efficiently. Course presently in fantastic condition (April 24). Greens impeccable. Bunkers well raked, with plentiful rakes present. Greenkeeper seen repairing pitch marks on greens. Great layout with water featuring on 11/18 holes. A couple of real picturesque shots to be hade. Pace of play great (07:10 tee time). 3hr 35min midweek. Highly recommended and WILL return.
Very nice course except for bunkers
Bunkers continue to be terrible. Can't they be raked to keep them playable?
Greens rolling pure
Did not expect the greens to be this great. Cant wait to come back
A decent course in San Diego
For a visitor, the course layout is not complicated and a good course to warm up. Green is well-maintained and fast (11) but a little bumpy. Green fee is reasonable compared to others. Overall, this is a course definitely worthy a 4 star.
Groups of 6 and 7 playing together
Conditions were good. Staff were friendly. But there were groups of 6 and 7 people playing ahead of us. How is that allowed? Slowed down the pace of play, made worse by a player in the group in front of us hitting multiple balls.
Overpriced
The course is fine. However, it is absolutely preposterous to charge $110 for this layout, let alone when the greens are sanded. Finding tee times in San Diego is difficult, but I would recommend rolling the dice elsewhere
