The Go-To Course in Beaverton
RedTail is easily the go to course in the Beaverton and West Portland area for the everyday golfer.
The Practice range and facilities are the best you are going to find without going to a private club or Country Club, and the ProShip is the best in the area. The Pro Shop has lots of deals and sales going on all the time for Golf apparel. clubs, golf balls and more.
Since this is so popular, the course is usually filled with the everyday golfers and typically a younger demographic.
The course isn't too difficult by any means, but the conditions are usually a little wet and due to being pretty packed during the peak season, because of this, the course can be a little rough sometimes.
The last time i played (March 16th) the fairways were not even fairways, but they were mud filled with long grass, you were almost better hitting in the rough areas rather than the fairways because your ball would get plugged into mud and lost in the fairways. But this is mainly due to the heavy wet season we have had.
During the late spring and Summer the course is pretty well maintained, apart from the greens which are usually a little rough due to the volume of golfers.
All in all i would absolutely golf here again, preferably later in the season when the course has some time to grow and get to it's potential.
Swamp
For 64 dollars I could play quail valley and it's in better shape. I get we live in oregon and I get that it rains. I just want red tail to charge a better price it they can't even use the mower in the fair way for over half the course. Most course will offer a discount when they sand the greens, red tail should offer a discount if the ball plugs in the far way on 80% of the course. The other thing that bugged me was the Marshall was on use for pase of play when we had play for 2hrs 30min on 12 hole. If the course is the reason the pase of play is slow they should not try to shoe horn as many people in to the course. I will not be coming back to this course.
Greens
Looks like some type of disease has taken hold of the greens. Back 9 worst than the front. Unfortunately this course has many issues, but so much potential at the same time.
5 hour round as a single…
Lost 5 ball plugged in flooded fairways teeing off. Heavy rain prior days, but still bad drainage course. Tee off at 10:00 finish just past 3:00. No Marshall or beverage cart. Not worth it for the price. Green fees higher than other courses nearby.
Thanksgiving Golf in Oregon
Great public course - they do the best they can with the crazy Oregon weather conditions !! It’s my home course
Rude Starter , anyone above a 10 handicap stay clear of this course
The elderly gentlemen who originally was there as the starter was very respectful and professional. Then a man in his 40s with glasses came and took over. He was very rude to my playing partners. They were clearly beginners, and he heckled them right off the first tee. They usually are pretty solid, but when someone is talking trash to them about people behind them, it makes anyone more stressed and uncomfortable. If this course does not want to allow high handicappers onto the course, they should clearly state that, and not cram groups of 4 sending them out every 10 minutes. I am pretty sure the low handicappers and scratch golfers would not want to play a course this beat up. If I knew how rude the starter was going to be, I would have gladly taken my $51 back and gone to play somewhere else. If you are new to the game, stay far from this course. If you want trimmed fairways and rolling greens stay away from here. There is so many things to do on a day off, just keep redtail off the list.
A decent public course
The staff encountered were very pleasant and efficient. The lay out is very nice and posses some great challenges, with some great risk reward shots. The sand was in good shape and greens were Pretty good. Missing some grass or was thin in some areas of the fairways. Overall a good experience and I will be playing. It again when visiting the Portland market.
Waited too long every holes!
We were wait over 5mins every hole. Greens are not true green and too bumpy. I am not recommending.
Great round at Redtail
I haven't been to Redtail in years. Over the past few years I heard nothing but terrible things. It is a local course for me and I figured I'd go play a round and see how it is for myself. First, I must say the layout is awesome, it has a lot of potential to be a great course. I would say the course conditions were above average for summer. This course does get a lot of play. Greens in playable shape, fairways green, bunkers were fluffy. The rough is obvious hard pan dried grass for watering reasons. My buddies and I kept joking around and asking ourselves, what's wrong with Redtail? Absolutely nothing! If you can keep your ball in play it's great, and the challenge is there. You wouldn't think you were in the city areas until you see Target and Dutch Bros. I have had a few slow rounds in the past, but we managed to play 18 in about 4 hours. Which was smooth pace for our group. They have a great practice facility also. I would definitely recommend this course. It's worth checking out for yourself.
Horrible
Conditions were horrible might as well play on the street as it felt like the same thing. Pace of play was 3 hours for 9 holes. Do not recommend.
