Bonaventure Golf Club
About
Bonaventure Golf Club (formerly known as Bonaventure Country Club) is a classic Florida layout with holes routed through strands of mature palms and hardwoods, and around numerous water hazards and expansive bunkers. This course, designed by Joe Lee, is also called the Green Monster. Some people call it the Cascade Course because of the waterfall on the picturesque 160-yard, par-3 third. This signature hole has a waterfall that stretches across the front of the green.

Hard course
The design of the course and the length made it a hard course... Front nine holes have water on every hole... back not so much water but long...
Good experience
Played here because it was in close proximity to Vacation Village. Plan on playing it again before my vacation week is over.
Recommend it to everyone.
Terrible
First of all, there was at least three foursomes on every hole and it took us nthree hours and 26 minutes to finish the front nine. The conditions of the fairways and tee boxes was horrendous. All in all I can be assured I will never play there again. Thank goodness, the gentleman and the pro shop reimbursed us 50% of our green fees, but unfortunately it was a day of golf wasted and I still have not seen the refund on my credit card.
Well worth the money.
Course doesn’t disappoint, good condition. They’ve done a great job getting the course back into playable condition. Keep it up, course still needs to be maintained to get better.
Great Golf Course
Very fun course with several areas which require a bit of finesse. Definitely will be back for another round.
Thank you
Just an incredible improvement of the greens
The tee box are almost perfect for most of them, and the greens are rolling, the sand traps are in excellent conditions with fresh sand all around.
Great time, and much better conditions. Thank you.
Challenging course
It was a very challenging course, greens were in decent shape. Fairways were also well-maintained. Be prepared for water on every hole and plenty of sand traps.
The only issue was the pace play was extremely slow. There was a group of three in front of us that obviously had never played golf before And did not understand the etiquette of letting others play through. Unfortunately, the Marshall left early so we did not finish the course. We gave up after 13 holes as it was just too painful to wait at every hole for the group in front of us.
Significantly Improved
Took a chance on this course again on a hot deal, but was pleasantly surprised at how much they've improved. A year or two ago this place was a total cow pasture, absolutely unplayable. As of April 2024, it is considerably better and a place that I would now consider when looking for tee times among the many public courses in the area.
There are a few greens with areas that need more attention, but flags were placed away from any problems and they did not factor into play. Greens were otherwise trimmed very short and rolled well.
Many approaches appear freshly grassed/sodded and fairways are in good shape, about on par with other courses in the area.
Tee boxes are now above average.
Bunkers all have very soft and silty sand, though most if not all of them have little rocks dispersed among the sand. Bring your higher-bounce wedges.
The left side of Hole 4 is all chopped down forest and tree waste. It looks like a giant burn pile. If you hit a hook off the tee, re-tee and hit again. It's blind off the left and you won't find your ball. Wish there was signage for this extensive of an excavation project. There wasn't any other construction or significant renovation on the course.
This course is not beginner friendly. Lots of water and forced carries. If you can't reliably carry a ball at least 120 yards, you will be in the water often and will likely fall behind the pace. Most people still play the middle tees and back when they probably should be on the forward tees on this course. Despite the extensive renovations and improvements, I can still see pace of play easily becoming a issue on a busy day.
Tee boxes and greens have seen a lot of traffic
Fairways are well kept, greens still roll fast but have sand and fertilizer mixed in seeing the dots in the floor on short outs might be distracting to some.
Greens seem like they’re ready to be punched.
Bonaventure Getting Better
I played this golf course many times when I lived in South Florida. It was a great course with a great layout, even to the poing of hosting major amateur tournaments. It had fallen on har times but I made a habit playing it onve on trips there. Last couple of years it had almost gotten to unplayable status, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the vast improvment. It has a ways to go bit they are moving in the right direction with greens and bunkers that are now playable
Great Course / Great Value
First time playing this course and for the $75 I paid it was a great experience. This can easily be a $150 green fee course.
Bring a lot of balls as you find water in 80% of the holes.
I really recommend this course!
Bonaventure on the rebound
I have played this course at least 100 in the early to mid 90s. It was an exceptional track back and place where very good players played. I have moved out of the area but have tried to play when I back in SOFLA. The last few years it had gone from poor to almost unplayable. This trip I was not going to back but got convinced to take a look. They have made tremendous progress. Greens have come back and the fairways, while still a little then are much improved. They have done a lot to improve the bunkering but it would nice if they had more rakes for players to help maintain. They have a way to go, thus the 4 stars. But if I had done this review last year, it would have been a 1 at best
Course has come along.
Course is in a lot better shape that was for the last 2 years.
Great course
Good conditions and layout, just need improve some services availability (as restrooms) in the course
