Dinosaur Mountain at Gold Canyon Golf Resort
About
The Dinosaur Mountain course at Gold Canyon Golf Resort is consistently rated among Arizona's top public courses. It offers a one-of-a-kind round in the Sonora. Panoramas feature at tee boxes. There's a test of skills, traveling upwards, downwards and all around Dinosaur Mountain, with tee-green elevations changing dramatically and fairways loping long.
While playing a round on the Dinosaur Mountain course at Gold Canyon Golf Resort, note the back-to-back signature holes, the fourth and fifth.
A round on the Dinosaur Mountain course at Gold Canyon Golf Resort kicks off on the 316-yard, par-4 first, which is tougher than it appears: The fairway heads uphill, narrows and leads to a well-guarded sloping green. The par-5, 514-yard third is one of three long holes; look out for the leftward dogleg, and then, go uphill to a diminutive multilevel green. Finish on the 366-yard, par-4 18th, which features fairway bunkers left and right to keep golfers from trying to wrap up too quickly.

Wonderful views
Wonderful views, paired will super couple from USA, shame about the constant foul language from 4 ball of men in front, beer kicked in ++ by the 15th, we picked up many clubs etc they left lying around!!
Amazing Views
Thoroughly enjoyed playing here. The elevation changes made for some amazing views. The course was in great shape for being late summer.
Diamond in the ruff
We had not played here before, and to our surprised the vistas were stunning. We played in September and the course was in great shape. I recommend this course to anyone !
Great track !
Great coarse, spectacular views,
We live real close and play it when rates are low, otherwise very pricey. We are seniors and tough coarse to walk, when it's 98 degrees and cart path only.
Beautiful
This is the golf course I've been looking for. Very scenic mountain views, lots of elevation changed. This is a must play golf course, you will love it !!
Love it!
The view is just fantastic and the course is in great shape.
fantastic views
This course is beautifully routed through the Gold Canyon hills. Although not a difficult course many of the holes will take your breath away. A must play in Phoenix!! The wet towels supplied by the beverage cart were just one example of the great service. Take your camera, this course will not disappoint.
Breathtaking Views
I've played several courses around the valley and I've enjoyed this one the most.
Best views in area, very beautiful but not senior friendly
Course and views absolutely beautiful. Tee to green very nice. Greens very bumpy due to only fair green condition. Difficult to make even short putts.
Long walk up and downhill from cart path to green. A major problem for seniors as your legs get tired from all the walking from to/from tees and especially to/from greens.
NO WATER ON COURSE AND NO BEVERAGE CART.
Great course!
This is a beautiful desert resort/residential course. Homes do not come in to play much. Wonderfully scenic settings on many holes. Bunkers have course sand and present a challenge but tee boxes are manicured and fairways are lush. Greens were in excellent condition and putts held the line. Enjoyed this course so much, we're headed back on Friday!
awesome course
This place was amazing. The views were awesome and the condition it was in for middle of summer was top notch. Some of the greens were a little rough but other then that it was an awesome place to play
Maintenance crew nightmare, pro shop uncaring
First time here. High expectations were unfullfilled. Fabulous location and excellent layout. However my Wed. 11:00 tee time coincided with heavy and unpleasant maintenance crews mowing and watering at least 2 to 3 tractors or motorized equipment on nearly every hole. I did not have a peaceful hole until 16. Very distracting and annoying. Pace of play was very slow. Hitting off of mats and putting greens without holes are things I have never seen outside of the cheapest muni course. After round I asked in pro shop for a free return trip because of maintenance motors buzzing next to me on almost every shot. He refused and said the high quality of course needs to be maintained and golfers need to deal with it. I have just recently played Wildfire Palmer and Faldo and Whirlwind and did not have any distractions from maintenance and to be honest those courses are in much better shape. He could have given me an afternoon slot or even a 9 hole freebie. But he didnt even want to discuss it. The location and design are great but whoever is running it doesnt live up to the hype.
Gold Canyon is NOT worth the time. While the course has some interesting holes, it is rarely in great shape and has the WORST staff in the Southwest Section of the PGA. Lastly, check out the "NO" votes once this posts, re: Helpful. They actually have their staff thumbs down the experiences of paying customers. Do yourself a favor: Play ANYWHERE else.
Agree Wholeheartly....the service takes away from the beauty of the course and the Staff are nowhere near Quality...please read my reviews as well cause now I'm just downright angry that I spent my money and time when I could've went to numerous other courses in the Phoenix area
Great Track - but the Greens
Played yesterday in a Monsoon. Weather cleared up after 7 holes. I love this course, the views are amazing, the elevation changes are awesome. the greens were not good, very bumpy, but otherwise a great experience.
2nd to none in scenic views
I rarely play in the heat of the day in summer anymore, but for $22, I couldn't pass it up.
First of all, it is worth it just for the natural beauty. There is no other course I know of with such stunning views.
The course was in very good condition for this time of year. The greens appeared to have been aerated recently and caused a few bumpy putts, but they mostly rolled true.
Fairways and Tee Boxes were in excellent condition.
Hardly anyone on the course, so we breezed through with no delays at all.
My only real complaint is that there are too many areas where carts were not allowed for no apparent reason, requiring some very long walks to the ball. This was especially difficult on the latter part of the course when we were already exhausted from the heat.
Overall, an excellent experience as it always is at Dinosaur Mtn.
Customer Service Terrible
I had a group of people (about 10 or more) that came with me to watch me and a young lady play. We spent the morning having Brunch then were treated Horribly in the clubhouse and b4 going out to shoot 18..First they Charged us more for all the carts we needed than it cost to play, then the Starter was rude and rushing us (wasn't Nobody waiting to go behind us)..I love the Dinosaur but after this experience I'd be hesitant to go back if they gave me a round. Totally disgusted with the service on this outing and take back all my recommendations for Gold Canyon to any of my visiting friends.

Just a suggestion. Next time you play don't bring 10 or more people to watch. A little golf etiquette can go a long ways!
The best value out there
The course is in great shape for this of year. The greens were just as good as any other for early Aug and they rolled nicely. The scenery is the most beautiful out here. You're stealing for the fees being charged now.
certainly worth a one time look
Tee and fairways were quite good. The greens looked good, but the ball would not roll consistently on these surfaces. A course where local knowledge re: uphill/downhill putts would help a lot. Good putters would be frustrated.
Great scenery here, but unless you are a Sherpa, you may not enjoy this course. The scorecard does not provide total distance from each tee, but instead suggests which tees you play based on your handicap. Really? Can't we do both?
Slow play, practice off mats and fair conditions
First of all, for such a highly rated course to have to practice off mats was a surprise. Do they have mats in the high season? Practice balls were in poor condition but at least they didn't charge you for them. Greens were not in the best shape. Pace of play was just shy of 5 hours; for a 7:20am tee time, that was very, very slow. The back 9 we were frequently waiting on the group in front of us. When we returned the carts, the staff person cleaned the other players clubs (men) and I was forgotten (as we women often are) until I went to get a wet towel to clean my own. They had valet parking and I saw others being offered to valet and I never was (another way women at courses are forgotten). Also, be warned that there is no water available on the course so you must stock up before you head out; another way that course makes more money, don't provide water so you have to buy it. If you can't hit the fairway, bring extra balls.

Awesome Views
Gold Canyon has such awesome views that its hard to keep your mind on golf. It is a challenging course with a fun layout. Greens were firm and fast but fair. Some blind tee shots but overall course was fair and fun to play.
Dinosaur Mtn.
Great condition for the summer, helpful staff and a great setting.
