Ahwatukee Country Club
About
The sun shines 350 days a year in Phoenix and you can enjoy this factor at Ahwatukee Country Club. "Ahwatukee" is Crow Indian for "house of dreams", but this could easily be the "golf course of dreams".
The semi-private Ahwatukee Country Club offers an 18-hole golf course designed by John Bulla in 1974 that is open year-round and includes a driving range, as well as a cart included in the greens fee. The golf course is par-72 and measures 6,713 yards from the championship tees.
The Ahwatukee Country Club golf course features a fairly wide-open layout, but has out-of-bounds areas on either side of the fairways - including some with houses, so watch out for those windows - as well as water hazards on some holes. The putting greens play fast.
After a tight front nine on the Ahwatukee Country Club golf course, things open up on a razor-sharp par-4 dogleg 10th hole, with no chance to cut corners: there's a towering forest to the left.

This Course Is In HORRIBLE SHAPE
I don't know how to adequately review this course as it sucks so much but it is still a golf course that I live next to and play. I'll try to go through all the problems I found just today in hopes that someone reads this and fixes it.
1) the tee boxes are in terrible shape. How does that even happen. They should literally be the nicest part on the course because you only hit from a designated spot.
2) the fairways are patchy and in terrible shape. You can hit a great drive in the middle of the fairway and land in what you would call ground under repair, but because the course doesn't actually do anything, it will stay that way.
3) they have completely stopped trying to manicure anything that isn't the fairway. There is just hard packed dirt that goes along every fairway. Google maps will show you this very clearly.
4) the cart paths are a joke. They stop and start randomly and half of them look destroyed by weather or just weren't made correctly to begin with.
5) The green on #7 has been driven over by a golfcart in the rain by someone doing doughnuts and it has yet to be repaired. This has been a problem for weeks. It doesn't even look like they have put seed down as nothing is growing.
6) The clubhouse is in shambles.
7) The landscaping crew doesn't start until after sun up, which means if you play in the morning (peak rates), you don't get a raked bunker, you are constantly being followed by lawn mowers and the greens are slow from day old cuts.
8) the greens are in terrible shape. It is obvious that everyone who plays this course has stopped caring about fixing divots and that the crew does not know how to repair the green. They are slow and boring.
9) the sand in the bunkers is probably 50% rocks. Because they don't actually know how to care for the course, the drainage in the bunkers stinks and the big rocks just float to the top every night when they water it and the sand gets blown away leaving impossible to rake bunkers. I will not hit out of the bunkers without a desert club.
10) they do not trim back the trees on holes 11-14 so the greens are littered with foliage 20 hours a day. I assume they have a blower to fix it from 10:30 to 2pm but after that it is back to horrible. 50% of the time I have to give myself an automatic 2 put because I don't want to spend 5 minutes clearing my line of tree branches.
11) Someone spay painted the yardage markers onto the side of someone's house on one of the par 3's. Real classy.
12) This course is in a +55 community, which usually means good things. The problem is the people living in the community walk their dogs and don't pick up after them constantly. I can't tell you the amount of times including today, that I have seen old people just not care about their dogs "leftovers".
13) the practice range is like 250 yards with no net in the back to catch balls. They offer private lessons on the opposite side so when it is busy they tell you that you can't hit driver because you might kill a student/teacher.
14) they don't maintain the practice range at all. They close it down for overseeding every few months but they don't bother seeding it. The practice range is a perfect example of the golf course's condition as a whole. But they did put new mats out for people... With the money they spent on mats they could have tilled the entire practice range, seeded it, and let us hit off the grass like adults.
You can tell the course is doing the bare minimum to get around the HOA requirements.
Decent value
Based on some of the reviews was a little leery but was pleasantly surprised. Greens were grainy but consistent.Traps good. Some bare spots in the fairways but it seems like the new owners are making an effort to change that. For the money my wife and I thought it was a good value. And would likely play again. Staff was cordial. Routing interesting
Nice Round of Golf
The course is adequate for a good round of golf without breaking the bank. If you’re looking for a well manicured track, pay the $150-$250 to get that! As long as you don’t hit way L or R there’s enough grass to have decent lies. I’ve played courses in much worse condition, this was nowhere close. I booked as a solo and got teamed up with another single and 2-some without any issues. The pace of play was about 4 hours as it was steadily busy. I’d come play this again when in Phx.
Played this course yesterday as a 3 sum, yes the previous reviews were right about the conditions. The fairways and greens are in great shape and the rough is mainly made of sand. If you keep the ball in the fairway you will have no problem with the conditions of this course. If you’re looking for a relaxing executive course in the heart of the city this is the place for you. For the price and value this course was amazing, the staff were really helpful and super accommodating. I’m Looking forward to seeing this course grow and become better each day!
Bad Bad Bad
This course has the worst pace of play ever. No ranger and not worth the price. Finished 9 holes in 3 hours. Terrible
Good course
They money and value were good. The greens were in very bad shape
Horrible Pace of Play
Me and my buddy got 8 holes in, in about 3 hours we left because we couldn’t deal with it anymore. No Ranger in sight and they couldn’t speed it up
My 2nd home course
My home course is in South Dakota, but I play this multiple times each year when I visit. There are noticeable improvements here, on course, and the people working.
Work in Prigress
New ownership in the last year. Working to improve course and make it a better value.
A lot of watering but needs overseeding and more grass an a lot of areas.
A lot of work to be done but reasonable price and will check out in future.
Quit after 11 holes; 3 1/2 hours had already passed. No Ranger ever seen. The greens were, for the most part, bumpy throughout. I
heard that the course was under new ownership and was being improved, and I did notice some improvement, but there is a long way to go. Note: there is a surcharge for using a credit card to pay for the round.
Good layout....rough shape
Could be a very nice course if they company who owned it would invest in the course. In my mind not worth what is being charged. Many bare spots int he fairways and no rough, just dirt. Not worth what is being charged to play the course.
Reasonably priced course
It’s not a resort course, but it 1/4 of the price. An for that I like it.
