TPC Scottsdale - The Champions Course
About
TPC Scottsdale has earned a host of honors, including a spot among the top three Arizona golf facilities for service and among the "Top 50 Golf and Resort Destinations in the World," the latter by no less than Conde Nast Traveler.
The Champions Course at TPC Scottsdale sits where the Desert Course did, but offers the thrills of golfing a new course, this one designed by architect Randy Heckenkemper, who did his best to fit the new golf course into the untouched desert land that surrounds it.
The Champions Course at TPC Scottsdale rivals its better-known sibling golf course, the Stadium Course, with all the good looks and good golf one might expect in the Scottsdale area.

Not bad for the money
I was in Scottsdale on business and I wanted to check out the TPC. The Stadium Course was my first choice but it was closed so we booked the Champions course. I got a great deal on their website, so I took it. We arrived an hour early and the staff was very friendly and inviting. We putted for a while. I noticed the greens were very slow on the practice green. This was the case throughout the entire course. The driving range was nice and I was able to get warmed up for the round.
The course is challenging. There are lots of spots where you can get into trouble. There is hidden water and lots of desert areas that can trip you up. We were lucky to be paired with 2 locals and they provided lots of good local tips. It truly helped. The greens were very tough to read. They are slow. I know that happens in the summer but it was still a challenge to get any type of check on the ball. The course does have some areas that are in bad shape. There are fairways that are transitioning and that led to some tough lies and some scrambling on the course. The bunkers were in excellent shape and there was no issues when I was in them. The rough is tough. It was thick and challenged you to hit the ball true.
All in all I like the set up. I bet this course is amazing in the fall. I would play it again.
TPC-Scottsdale-Champions Course
The greens were in great shape along with the fairways. Watching the private jets fly over was cool.
Great experience!
Excellent course however the pace of play was way too slow.
Bucket list
Enjoyed the experience with a HighSchool
Classmate from Iowa. First time for both of us. Took advantage of the twilight
pricing, had to play the last hole in the dark.
We had a very nice time until lightning struck when we were on hole 10. I asked for a rain check for the back 9 and was told they don’t do that, so that was a little disappointing and definitely affected the value score.
Go play this course!
10/10
Great Course
I really enjoy playing this course. Pace of play was unbearable. We spoke with the marshal and the young man did a great job moving them along. You will often encounter groups that are not proficient golfers and lack the understanding of ready golf.
Utter Debacle
Don’t waster your money on this vastly overpriced and overrated course. So many other options at this price point in the area. Told by Starter the pace of play was 4:15 and there were rangers monitoring play on the course. Called the pro shop twice asking for assistance, nobody ever showed up. Front nine took 2:50. No sand in the traps. Finished in complete darkness. Will never spend another dollar here again, Never been so disappointed in a high end golf course in my life. Complete money grab.
Over rated
Over rated. Bunkers awful condition. A few holes contrived.
Awesome Greens/Barrren on the edges
This is a top notch course. It is directly under a very busy airport. Small planes and a few large jets fly over continuously. The greens are very smooth and quick like professional level quality. The tees and fairways were also in good condition. Of the the fairway is gravel, so the overall appearance is not as plush as the price, $250 on Thurs. at noon. There was also some major construction around several of the holes. They were mostly out of the way, but didn't add to the atmosphere. Overall a great and very playable course. It is mostly flat which was welcome after playing a couple course in the mountains.
Superb experience
The course was in fantastic shape! Practice facilities were good except the chipping green was closed for renovation. The staff was outstanding especially John our starter. Love the course and the twilight price. We teed off at 2:18 and just made it in before sunset. Nice rollout on the fairways and the greens were fairly fast as well, but not too fast. Overall, I was extremely pleased.
Almost perfect time of day
Played at 2:27pm, course was in excellent conditions, fairways were dry and running out. Greens were in perfect condition. We did have a number of holes that we waited on which maid it so we were in the dark of 17 and 18. Had we not had to wait it would have been likely we would complete the round in the light of day. All said the experience was excellent from the staff to the conditions. One complaint I might add would be that the pro shop was closed when we finished our round, would have been nice to know in order to look at some souvenirs.
