Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West
About
Hillcrest Golf Club possesses a championship length course that offers a great variety of game options with five sets of tees. The course has a traditional design that features open fairways lined with trees, which put a premium on straight shots. The greens vary greatly with some that are relatively flat and medium sized and others that are quite large and dramatically sloped or multi-tiered. In addition to several sand bunkers, water hazards in the forms of lakes and ponds come into play. The signature hole is the par-5 13th, which has been touted by the Phoenix Gazette as being on of the best holes in the state. Hillcrest Golf Club not only has a dogleg around a lake, the hole requires an approach shot uphill to a green that is guarded by eight bunkers.

Hurry up!
My family is visiting from out of state and wanted to get in a round of golf. Hillcrest looked like a beautiful course so we decided to give them our business. We arrived early for our 10:45AM tee time and proceeded to tee off on time. We are 4 casual players but are not terrible golfers. We feel like we can keep a reasonable pace with anyone, and we were playing well. By about the 4th hole we started to get the group behind us driving into our fairway shots. We talked as a 4some and decided to group up and do a 2 man scramble. Needless to say our pace picked up by at least 25%. By the 6th hole we started to get followed my the course ranger. So, feeling the pressure, we picked up our pace even further. On the 8th hole the ranger finally approached us asked us to hurry up because we were "backing up" the 4some behind us. All the while, the group behind us keep getting agitated and driving into our fairway shots. We ended up finishing the front 9 holes in 1Hr and 45Mins. After we finished the front 9, we decided to get a refund for the remaining 9 hole and to eat lunch somewhere else, meaning the golf course lost roughly $150 between us 4. I give this course a decent rating for its appearance, but the staff and pace of play were unreasonable to the point of not enjoying our morning, and feeling extremely shushed even playing a scramble. Don't even think of taking kids or your wifes if they can't play 9 hole faster than 1:45 minutes. We will not be coming back and would not recommend this course to anyone.
Course conditions were not great
The employees were great. But the conditions even with rain a few days before were not good.
Potential
I liked the layout of this course and fairways and greens were mostly fine but it definitely needs some TLC. Has the potential to be a really nice course.
Hillcrest GC
Very good overall - pace of play a bit slow but enjoyable round!
Beautiful BUT
The Fairway is amazing - greens were wonderful ….. BUT anything not on fairways is in muddy tracks - large unkempt areas …. pace of play was slow - and it was a twosome in front of our foursome . The Bar closed promptly at 4 pm …. However the Pro Shop and the cart fellas were amazing and FRIENDLY !’n
Great course value
Fairways and greens in awesome shape. Traps were awful. I don’t understand why people do not fix ball marks on the greens anymore. Selfish I guess. Good track for the money.

Walkons were advised to "work themselves in"
We had a tee time of 2:35. About 2:36 8 people came to the 1st tee and milled around and finally started teeing off. Another twosome that had a tee time at 2:38 talked to them and they said the pro shop told them to "work themselves in". Not what they did and not what should have happened. The group of 8 broke into two foursomes and did not keep pace. We were waiting for them on all the holes we played. They spent a lot of time on the tee and on the green. Poor scheduling by the pro shop. The course was in fairly good shape except for some of the tee boxes which were so dry that it was almost impossible to get a tee in the ground and cart paths need maintenance. The view from the course is beautiful and it was a beautiful day for golf but we don't plan to return.
Nice little surprise
The course is a bit rough in places but the layout of the holes and the terrific condition of the fairways and greens make up for it. Nice track to play
great day
hillcrest was always a favorite course of mine. great track and pleasant surroundings. Just hoping the new ownership spruces up all the neglected areas and gets all the many dead areas revived with new grass or even artificial turf if applicable. AND-would be wonderful to have designated cart paths re-implemented throughout the course. it used to hold the Senior Tour Championship back in the day-would love to see it back to those conditions!
March Golf
I thought your rough was horrible. Dirt snd no grass outside fairway was extremely bad.
No one should ever pay over $40 for this course
One positive your greens were good
Hillcrest
Pot holes everywhere, pace of play horrible, we waited at least 10 minutes on every hole.
Challenging greens but fun
Just a few areas around the course that could use some TLC Fairways and greens are in great shape
Thank you for taking time time to fill out the online review. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience at Hillcrest. For the record we don't ever expect people to play in 1:45 minutes for 9 holes; but we do ask that golfers adhere to a 2:15 min pace per 9 holes. As busy as we are it is important that we keep all groups moving at a reasonable pace to not effect the rest of the course. We do hope that you will come play again in the future. ~HC
