Great Eagle Golf Club
About
Great Eagle Golf Club, rated one of the most affordable golf courses in Arizona, is a championship course in the West Valley. Although it has a traditional design there are several unique and challenging elements that come into play such as undulating mounds that cause uneven lies and well-guarded greens. Water hazards also come into play on four holes. The golf course offers three sets of tee boxes so that there is some flexibility regarding levels of challenge, but overall the course is suitable for any player. The Great Eagle Golf Club, in addition to the course, also offers both a chipping green and a putting green.

Fun Course, Needs Attention...
I have enjoyed playing this course over the last few years. It is a bargain course, so I don't expect too much. However, I was sadly disappointed in the conditions.
Following the annual overseed, I was expecting better greens and bunkers. I understand it takes some time for the turf to fill in, but what is stopping the superintendent from giving the bunkers some much needed attention? The greens were very inconsistent. Some fast, some slow. Some were perfect, some were filled with spotty grass and extremely bumpy. Pace of play was awful as well. Cart path only explains some slow play, but 3 hours to play the front 9 is ridiculous.
I am also a bit of a stickler when it comes to practice areas. Their practice green was closed. The chipping green was half decent but the practice bunker near it was hard as a rock. The range balls need to be replaced as well. They are pure garbage. Finally, the range itself is terrible. Tee box was uneven, overgrown, full of divots, and inaccurate to the yardage flags.
The main things that will keep me coming back are the amazing staff, and the fun course layout. I still enjoyed my round there, but the course conditions leave much to be desired.
I still recommend this course, however be prepared for substandard conditions on a really fun track.
The Challenge
The challenge at Great Eagle is to continue improving course conditions. The fairways and greens are much better than in past years, but the sand bunkers need sand, and the grass bunkers need to be mowed. Improvements to the cart paths or natural trails are still needed. With these upgrades, Great Eagle can quickly become a 5-star course.
Hot deal golf now
Great round of golf with golf now staff was very friendly and helpful course was in great shape started was very helpful also
Good for the money.
The course has a good lay out. This is probably the greenest it’s ever been through out the years of play. Fingers crossed they keep it that way. Not sure why they don’t keep sand in the traps. Would be better than hitting off rock. Don’t try riding on the cart path unless you have everything strapped down. The greens were surprisingly in excellent shape. Good course for the price. Hopefully they keep improving.
Not Terrible
Friendly staff both at the cart barn, front desk and first tee. The course was in OK shape but the greens were a bit bumpy due to all the tire tracks from course vehicles all over them. The cart path for the most part resembled the Baja in CA except in certain places where it had poured concrete. The clubhouse is under renovation but that is OK. Fairways were good and the rough very patchy in spots. Will go back to play however because it is an OK course.
Great Eagle
This course has improved significantly from 1 year ago. The fairways and greens are in better shape. The sand traps are not sand traps but hard pan. They need to improve the sand in the traps. Typical desert course with little rough to work with, dirt and gravel..Overall for this time of year a great value with a Great Eagle punch card.
Rude staff, rude players
The staff gave us 2 warnings about holding up the group behind us even though the group in front of us were holding us up thus causing everyone to be held up. The staff also complained that we weren’t on the cart path when the course and cart path literally look the same (poor condition) throughout most of the course. The people here seemed very judgmental towards us. If this course was nice like the Wigwam or The Raven then I understand the staff being a little picky, but this course is horribly maintained and cheap looking.
Not on our list of courses to golf again...
I understand the reviews are very subjective and dependent on one-time experiences but the previous reviews that speak to the poor condition of this course are spot on.
The greens and parts of some of the fairways are in nice shape but the remainder of the course falls under the category of "disasterous."
Many, many repairs and improvements have been started but just left unfinished. Such as curb and cart path concrete repairs. The paths, as mentioned i previous reviews, are very, very rough. the bunkers are concrete. Drainage is nonexistent.
Much of the layout is fun and appealing but some areas make me scratch my head. Some tee boxes on the back nine are literally a few feet away from the RV campsite'ss backyards. And the residents could care less about the golfers. Loud music, parties, talking, etc.
The vibe is just not for me. I'm not a country club snob by any stretch but this course looks and feels like the golfers dress, in wifebeaters and sleeveless shirts.
With the exception of the lady that checked us in, the staff we interacted with were unfriendly and unhelpful.
I will not return and cannot recommend...
Good value for the money. Played the copper tees at 6,300 yards.
