Great shape...very challenging
After a couple of fairly easy holes to start, holes 3-8 are very difficult and demand precise shotmaking and well hit drives. If you can get past these holes, the rest of the course is pretty attainable, with the exception of a back side par-3 that requires a precision shot over water to hit and hold the green. Fun layout and course was in excellent shape.
Back on our replay list
My group had not played this course for over 4 years because of course poor conditions. We all agreed the greens, fairways, bunkers and tee boxes are in great shape. Terrific course layout and beautiful views abound.
A must play in the area
Be ready to get wet!! Not that we even cared, as the scenery, layout, weather was on point. The course is challenging without a doubt and even more difficult with no 150 yard markers and no GPS on the carts. There are several holes with hidden waterways and slopes that can ruin a hole quickly. We received a pin placement only and thankfully we had a gps watch, otherwise it would be near impossible to guess on a few hidden shots/ greens. We will def go back for a “do over” on a few holes!
Beautiful course
Played here ten years ago, and it was nice then. Now, its been upgraded and beautified substantially. Really enjoyed playing and the guy at the grill/check in was friendly and accomadating.
Love the Course, Great Setting, But...
I have played this course several times even though it's over an hour's drive from our condo. Normally, I really enjoy it, but this time I was a little disappointed. The greens were unbelievably slow - even on downhill putts my ball frequently stopped short of the hole. A few of the bunkers could also use some trimming to eliminate the spongy grass creeping into the bunker around the edges. Also, the grass on several of the tee decks was scruffy or sparse. I will be back, but hope that the course conditions improve a little by then.
Another wonderful morning at Deer Island
I live in the greater Orlando area and have played almost every public accessible course in the area. This has been one of the most consistent and challenging courses around. Course conditions are better than the average courses in the area and are comparable to some of the other Resort priced courses.
Staff is always pleasant, the Course is never double booked. My 3some played our round in just over 3hrs and with the exception of maybe a handful of swings towards the end of the round we never saw another group on the hole we were playing.
If you're visiting the area and don't want to have to overpay for a resort Course, but would love to see the best of Florida style golf, Deer Island should be one of those courses. Definitely worth the hour drive away from all the Orlando chaos.
Nice Layout
The golf course layout is nice. The greens were a little slow, like those at a lot of courses currently, but the course was in otherwise very good condition. We were a twosome that went out before a large number of foursomes, so we had no waiting. Had we gone out later, the pace of play might have been slower, but no telling. Overall, this is a very nice course, well worth playing.
Beautiful and FUN!
We loved this course! Nicely conditioned, good pace and very scenic. Need to hit ball moderately straight and use the contours to your best advantage! It is a bit out of the way but worth the drive.
Beautiful course
This is a very beautiful and well conditioned course. Greens were good but on the slow side. Not overly difficult but fun to play!i
Always a pleasure....good fairways and greens, pace was awesome...will play a couple more time before heading home to Canada....
Perfect Round
Was pared with three others with an early tee', my girlfriend (Ride Alone) and I: broke off from the group after second hole because I went to rest room (Clean and Bright) We played the rest of my round ourselves and had a Blast. Made my first eagle on a Par five. however, we were questioned by the range on the 5th or 6th hole why we were by ourselves. (Was a little overly questioned) and was ask at the turn what happen to the other players. with no one behind us and not pushing us at all. i think we had 2-3 hole open behind us. Other than that the course and day was a beautiful and very challenging. would highly recommend.
Disney Dads Play Dear Island
Took a break from the chaos of Orlando and made the trip from Orlando to Dear Island with another friend (33m x 2).
The drive was easy with some mansions to checkout on the way.
Check-in was smooth, staff gave some course tips and advice. Lots of drink options available at reasonable prices (4 beers for $20 USD) food was more premade sandwiches and snacks.
Greens and fairways were in excellent condition, bunkers were soft well maintained sand, bunker edges could use some work. Saw lots of wild life. Seems like people are moving to the island and building large homes or major renovations.
tee sheet must have been open that day, never felt rushed or delayed by other golfers. Played in 3.5 hours taking our time.
Carts were new and clean.
Chatted with two rangers during the round, they were polite and dropped some classic one liners.
Definitely would play again, scored a deal from GolfNow ($50 USD each).
Challenging
Course was very challenging. Wind made it even more challenging. Great layout. Lots of wildlife. Starter provided great information as this was our first time playing the course. Pace of play was fantastic. Great scenery and meanders through some beautiful homes. Well worth the drive from Orlando.
Great course
Course was awesome but very tough with all the water and sand pits
We're thrilled you had a great day and congratulations on your eagle! Apologies for feeling overly questioned; we'll look into improving our customer communication. Thank you for recommending us and for the feedback.
