This coarse was recommended to us. It was a one hour drive. We were very impressed with our first impression. The coarse was in need of maintenance. Mud in the fairways. The greens were very interesting. The set up of holes were extremely unfair in length and configureation...especially THE number one handicap hole. Named el deablo... I would not recommend it for these reasons, plus the cost is $109.00 per, which is to much for the condition and drive time.... I hate giving bad reviews, but I use them before booking a new coarse.

Course is in great shape with challenging holes and fair greens. One of the best courses in Orlando and played for the first time this trip. Pace of play was exact 4 hours 15 mins and teed off early as a foursome but moved through each hole

Most greens are elevated with some tight holes for shot making

A pleasurable experience and will play again.

Had lunch at the main inn overlooking 17th fairway and enjoyed the ambience

Looking forward to playing the sister course as well

I have been reading the reviews about this course and thought, why not make the drive. I am glad I did. A really unique layout compared to most of the Central Florida courses. The staff was excellent, helpful and very engaging. Now the course: We played the whites at the encouragement of the pro. Glad we did. The up and down hill aspects of the course made it much longer and harder than the yardage, let alone you better be spot on off the tee or good luck, which I wasn't lol. Hence the extremely difficult remark. Layout was beautiful, the scenery around beautiful. You couldn't have asked for a better day and better surroundings. The overall condition of the course? It was ok and the greens were a little slow....but overall a great place and a great day. Last thing, cut down the tree in front of the lake on 17...the hole doesn't need it. :)

Great layout, found the course super tough. A lot of the par 4s seem reasonable when you look at the scorecard but we struggled to reach the greens in 2.

Greens weren't the best but they weren't awful.

Only complaint was I had no idea where to get beer from other than the cart girl.

Practice facilities were fantastic!

Course is all it is advertised to be. It is 100 years old but has kept up with modern equipment and proved a good challenge. Conditioning perfect. This course seems to get lots of play, and many players do not fill divots with sand or rake the bunkers. Perhaps some guidance from the starter or a ranger on the course would help this situation.

Couldn't rate the front 9 because they sent us out in a fog that you couldn't see 30 yds in front of you. Didn't know where the fairways, trouble, or greens were. (Even on par 3's). Scariest part was the safety aspect. We couldn't see where the people in front were and had balls hit into us a couple times. I Inquired about safety and delay at pro shop and their only concern was back up. Seems like they would at least offer to let us come back to play the front. They recommended we book on Monday or Tues to get the senior rate $62.

So much for safety of the customer or satisfaction. I was so looking forward to playing this course but was sadly disappointed. Sure my ratings would be better if things were handled differently.

I made the trip from San Diego to join up with a bunch of guys who have been taking an annual trip here for nearly 30 years. Leading up to the trip they talked about two things constantly. #1. They talked about the elevation and difficulty of the course. #2. They talked about how good the breakfast buffet is. I can tell you first hand that both were as described and although I've only been home for less than a week I'm already looking forward to going back. Thanks for a great trip!

Wow this place is incredible! We chose this course after a trip to the PGA show and although it was a bit of a drive, we were happy we made the decision. When you get close, youll think you are in the middle of nowhere, but the resort is a true gem! I was thoroughly impressed with the terrain and undulation of the greens which is very unlike most Florida golf courses. There is so much variety and up and down holes, left and right doglegs, water and other hazards to navigate but still fairly open. The course was quite green for January and it was extremely well-maintained; greens were running at really nice speed. We played on a Thursday afternoon and it seemed empty, which is nice as we finished in about 3.5 hours playing as a twosome. This is a great course for those traveling in or out of Orlando and heading north/south on 75 as its not too far off from the highway. Plus it is a steal of a price relative to high-end courses in/around the Orlando area. I give this course 2 thumbs up, and if you love golf, PLAY HERE!

This is the third time I've played El Campeon now, and it's becoming a bit of a tradition when I go to Orlando. We made the trip out here during PGA Show week and it was clear we weren't the only group with that idea in mind. The place was humming, and golfers were enjoying the sunshine after a few days of breezy and cold weather.

In terms of uniqueness to the surrounding courses in Central Florida, there's just no other course in El Campeon's league. The combination of a historic, hilly course with a smaller and quieter resort component just can't be found anywhere else. The 1000-plus room hotels near I-Drive and theme parks just can't offer the kind of personal service this place can. It's certainly worth the extra 15-20 minutes compared to some other courses closer to the theme parks or downtown.

I forgot that El Campeon can be pretty tough, especially if you're above the hole on some of the elevated greens. The hilliest holes come midway into each nine, but the closing stretch is so strong. I love the 18th tee shot that allows you to bite off as much dogleg as you're willing to gamble.

This is the central Florida course I recommend the most to those who ask, and after my most recent visit, I won't be changing my stump speech anytime soon.

Orlando's got so many resort courses that it's tough to stand out from the crowd. El Campeon does that and more.

There's just a pleasant vibe about the place tucked well away from the tourist corridors of 'O' town. The historic course is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2017. Hills you won't see anywhere else in Florida help the routing spring to life. Holes 4-8 ride rolling terrain to form four stout par 4s and a daunting par 3, the downhill tee shot over water on no. 8.

From the 14th hole on, water takes center stage with a pair of peninsula greens at no. 15 and no. 16 and the most-talked-about 17th hole, a wild and interesting par 5. It's hard not to have fun playing El Campeon.
