It's been awhile and what happened?
I played this course alot in high school (it was our golf team's home course), and today might have been my first round there since graduation (1999). To summarize my thoughts, they should change the name to Mildhorse. Whichever architect did the big redesign from about 10 years ago or so should refund the money. The two new holes (currently #1 and #2) created on top of the old driving range are "meh" nothing burgers at best (which makes me wonder what was the point of moving the driving range). What was the stupidest hole on the course before the redesign (old #18, now #9) was made even dumber by putting in a new back tee box, planting a large bush in the way to create a blind shot. In fact, there's a number of spots where newly planted desert landscaping creates blind or reduced vision tee shots (making it hard to ascertain if the landing area is clear). Before, there were trees along the sides but a clearer vision of the course. Additionally, a couple of water hazards were removed (taking away whatever character the current 12th hole had) and it seems like all the greens had their slopes flattened out, taking away approach shot challenges.
I realize the city of Henderson owns this course now, money is tight, and they want to keep the greens fees low, and that's fine - there's a place for that in golf. But it doesn't cost anything money to put some freaking water in the ball washers! All but 1 were broken or bone dry (2 holes had broken ones). I don't expect much, but you can do better.
Great People
Since the one person who made me not play here for 6 months has left I’m back to enjoying. Diana and Kelley in Snack Shack. Don’t know all the names of cart people, but all great. Shout out to Jim, Justin, Joey. Larry, AB, and Dash inside. Lance and Tom starters.
Enjoy all the wildlife I encounter.
Really enjoy playing here.
Wildhorse
Nice clubhouse and atmosphere there, but for the cost the course was a major disappointment. I’d pay $30-$40 to play a course of that standard, but paid $130. Fool me once, but definitely won’t be playing it again for that price.
Good vibe
Staff was willing to help with any requests that may come up. Course played well and pace of play was good.
Wow- what a shocking disappointment
A rip-off. Not having ever been to this course before and spent $259 for a twosome to treat my son. Vacationing from the NW, we have several courses there $60-$75 a round with manicured green fairways and beautiful tended greens. Showed up at the bag drop to find no one there. Parked and proceeded to carry the bags to the cart area when someone came up. Yellow and barren fairways with spotty greens with evidence of disease. My son and I left after the 11th hole.
Fairways and puttings need attention
Loved the staff and their friendliness but the course needs attention. The fairways were dead, very tight lies and the putting greens are rough. The carts were also great and the OSCE of play was also very good, not much waiting on each hole.
Just a Muni
Fairways were dry, hard and thin. Greens were rock hard. Every hole was surrounded by wste areas or houses with no room for error. Would never play here again
Needs some Work
We noticed the tees and fairways were very sketchy with grass patches and bare sand and no grass on tees.
Greens rolled ok but overall not worth the money.
Little slow today
This course is usually great pace of place...however this afternoon, there were 2 groups in front of us who are NOT regulars, young men in their mid 20's, all with rental clubs...apparently, they were playing best balls, which ended up a little slow than usual. Other than that, the weather was wonderful.
Old and Tired
Just like me, old and tired. Fairways are in bad shape and the greens are just okay. For the price I can’t complain much, but since you asked. The restaurant and bar are a ghost room, don’t even bother with it. The only food is a hot dog and chips at the shack stand, which is where you can also get a cold beer. The staff are friendly and helpful. The course and conditions will likely not change because like me it’s old and tired. If you’re looking for a quick round with little expectations, then this is the place. If your looking for some food, drinks and service while enjoying a great course, then look somewhere else.
