Round took almost 6 hours. Waited for 3 groups on every par 3. It was clear that hey just book too many players in a day.

Beyond the Las Vegas Strip are some golf courses that are truly desert oases. One such course is Rhodes Ranch Golf Club. This course is an upscale tropical ranch style, with a modern look that will definitely peak your interest. The course has all the ambience you expect to see at a tropical desert oasis, like palm trees, ponds and water falls with beautiful arrangements of plants and boulders. The smooth, fast, elevated greens coupled with several deep bunkers make for a memorable golfing experience. Starting with the delightful clubhouse grille, we arrived early to taste the chef's steak and egg special. This was a NY strip steak, eggs, and hash browns, which would make an epicurean blush and your taste buds scream hallelujah. Next, it was off to the Pro-shop to check in. The staff was friendly, attentive, and our group of 8 was in ànd out in less than 10 minutes. A quick stop at the practice range is a must before going to the 1st tee. The course has a very nice putting and chipping area.

Standing on the first tee you will quickly notice the plush bent grass fairway, which is fairly wide and relatively straight. Ted Robinson Sr. the course designer, starts us off with a moderately difficult par 4, with a panoramic view of the mountains, and beautiful luxurious homes down the right side of the hole to distract us. Enjoy the view, but stay focused. Next, two things about the rough deserve some consideration; first the rough is full of hills and mounds which means your lie is rarely level, and second, the rough is thick and brutal. Unless you are a straight shooter, I strongly suggest clubbing down in order to hit the fairway.

Rhodes Ranch has 4 sets of tee boxes. The Black tees measure 6909 yards from the tips with a slope rating of 73.0/122. I played the Blue tee, and the total yardage was 6405 with a slope rating of 70.8/116. Do not let the easy slope rating lull you into thinking this course is a piece of cake. You still must hit some quality shots to score well.

This brings me to the signature holes. My favorite is hole #3, which is rated as the third most difficult hole on the course. It is a 191 yard, pristine par 3, all carry over water. This hole is picturesque with a cascading waterfall left of the oblong green. There is a small grouping of Palm trees sitting on a slope behind the green and 3 deep bunker just off the back of the green. The green itself slopes from back to front, with a few subtle breaks. If you're wondering if there is a drop zone, well there is. Other signature holes are #18, #16, and #14.

I like Rhodes Ranch Golf Course for the variety of holes, the condition of the course, its picturesque views, and the total experience of the round of golf. For me it was a wonderful experience and a fun day at the course.

Where I thought Rhodes Ranch could do a better job is at the unattented bag drop area in the front of the building. As a golfer, I am uncomfortable leaving my clubs in an unattended area. The pace of play was good (5.0 hrs), but it could have been better. I found Rhodes Ranch to be an enjoyable golf course and I would recommend it for others to play.

Beware, if your not a member you will be treated very poorly! Starter needs to be fired! He controls tee time startups as if your not a member you are mainly a pain in his day until he can get rid of you. This may not bother you at all, but you are now informed so be prepared for being treated very insulting. This course is poorly managed as far as public interface! As far as the course it is very well maintained and a challenge to play.

Played RR on a quite busy Friday and thoroughly enjoyed my round. The course was in very nice shape although the greens were a bit slow. Rented a nice set of Calloway clubs. Typical Ted Robinson designed course with a fair amount of water and sand hazards. Liked the graduated tee locations ranging from 6,000 to 7,000 yards; something for everyone.

This is a great golf course for all playing ability. Friendly staff. Practice area is well maintained. The whole course is in prestine condition. Only negatives are the pitch marks on the greens, (but that's on the players neglect) and there was a shortage of golf carts when I checked in an hour prior to my tee time. This caused a delay of about half hour for many players to tee off. I was lucky enough to play on time since I was a single player. Overall the experience was positive and I was fortunate to play a good round.

We played Rhodes Ranch many times before and never had any issues. However, on Wednesday, April 19, the course was way overbooked - i.e. 5 people (including the 2 of us) had a tee time of 3:16 and there were numerous groups ahead of us waiting to tee off. The starter said they were running around 14 minutes behind schedule. However, 14 minutes turned into 3/4 of an hour. There were no carts available and people were getting very frustrated. We did not get to play until almost 4:00 p.m. The pace of play was very slow and the par 3s had 4 groups backed up. We bypassed one par 3 as we wanted to finish before dark. That was not to be. There were 2 to 3 groups waiting to tee off on every hole. Then the group behind us started to hit into us yelling "fore", but we couldn't go any faster. We decided to leave the course at that time. It was our last golf game before heading back to Canada and we were really looking forward to it. However, it turned out to be a big disappointment. Hopefully, management will make some changes as to overbooking. The other issue we have with Rhodes Ranch is their lack of a decent bag drop off area. Surely, they can afford to put some racks there so you don't have to throw your clubs on the ground and then haul them yourself to the cart area because there are no carts available.
