Where Golf is Fun
We had an amazing day of golf here, the weather was perfect, we paired up with another couple and this course was very impressive.
We had a 9 AM tee time but our friendly pro shop guy said we could go right out now
if we wanted.
Ron was the nice starter who got us going.
There was nobody in front of us for the entire 3.5 hour round.
The fairways were pristine and cut short so the ball got rolling good.
The fairways here are wide with little Bermuda grass encroachment.
The amazing variety of scenery and the presence of tall pines that occasionally come in
make this course so much fun.
The greens here are rolled twice a week and are slick and tricky. With all the undulations
on these greens, your putting skills will be tested. It's a good bet that these are some of the best rolling greens on Hilton Head Island.
There's some interesting variety in this Hills layout. There are tough par fives and short and tough par fours, but the par three holes are really difficult.
Hole #18 is a nasty narrow dogleg left with a lake in play along the left side. This hole requires a long tee shot to the right-center avoiding all the daunting berms placed along the right side.
The landing area for your second shot is too narrow and then you have another long shot over the water and into the wind. This little devil should be a par five hole.
Play it with discount
Great course, good condition. Would play again with the golf now hot deal .
Nice course, need a map on scorecard to help get you around the course
Really nice course. Would be nice to have a map of the course layout for 1st time players. And gps of course installed in cart for yardage.
Be sure you get a deal.....
New management means much higher prices, of course.
Greens and bunkers are much improved, but still a pretty high price at rack rate. Deals and afternoon play help.
Thanks to the starter who mentioned that black "hybrid" tees are still marked on course, altho not listed on the new scorecards.
Tee off set up
This course has never had a proper tee set up. 6300 hundred yards is too long for most seniors and then to 5000 yards is ridiculous. Just my two cents worth.
Not Great Conditions This Time of Year
Front was not in great condition. Back was OK. Greens were a little slow. There are no women’s tee boxes and the course was not well marked. Flags were not colored and no pin position was provided. Looks like they are trying to revive course with new ownership and have a ways to go. Staff were very friendly.
The course was in great shape and we played in less than 4 hours
We played the Hills course on a very pleasant afternoon. The course was in very good shape and as it was not overly busy we played in just over 3 1/2 hours. A very good afternoon.
Super friendly staff!
We enjoyed our afternoon. My husband was injured and staff were very accommodating. Enjoyed the course layout pace of play was great. Love the swampy areas and ponds do definitely add to the natural feel of the area
would go back
Challenging layout and in good condition for the time of year. Pace of play was fantastic on front nine but a little slow on back nine as we were a twosome who caught up to a slow foursome. Only negative was no pace to go for an adult beverage when round was over.
Winter rules, not great
Played in Mid-January, so didn't expect great course conditions. Greens were hard, shaved, and treated with what appeared to be ground grass clippings and mush. I had never seen such a finish before, which was most prominent in shaded areas on the green. This left them extremely fast, but not in a good way. Like putting on a ping pong table.
Afternoon play left you teeing off directly into the sun on 14-16. Couldn't track the ball, and I even talked to a guy leaving the course because he felt he couldn't see where the ball was going, even when well struck.
Conditions weren't great, even for winter golf.
