Walk in the wild

Nice course with a great deal of water. Alligators all over the course. Many species of birds too. Tees were in poor condition. Fairways and greens were in average shape.
Pace of play definitely resort speed (4.5 to 5 hours)

Average course for above average price

Course staff is friendly and professional. The course itself is challenging and fun. However, for $120.00 a round I would have expected the course to be in better shape. The greens were overall in good shape but some of the fairways were really rough. A little disappointing.

Briganteen and Galleon

Fun course with narrow fairways. Plenty of nature to look at. The green complexes were pretty rough on some holes (no grass on fringe) and the bunkers were pretty solid. Had shown up for three but was playing solo. Price included warm up balls etc. however the starter paired me with a tee time 15-20 min earlier than my start time so I wasn’t able to warm up and take full advantage of what was included. Greens were fairly fast and challenging.
For the price I paid, it was a decent deal. Will be a fun trek for the summer/late fall

Pace-pushing and course condition

I've played at Shipyard several times over the years. This round was disappointing for two reasons:
1. My playing partner and I were paired with a married couple, one of whom was obviously a beginning golfer. Not a problem in itself. We enjoyed their company and encouraged the beginner. However, the course ranger/marshal/ ambassador 3 times insisted that we pick up our pace of play, clearly delayed by our assigned playing companion, and beyond our control.

2. The course condition, except for greens, was pretty ragged, evidently from over-play. For the price (even the "discounted" post-2pm rate), this was disappointing.

On a positive note, the staff at the 19th hole were delightful, and the food is excellent.

Disappointing

Very poor fairway conditions!!
not happy about the driving range closed.
Saw the cart girl on hole three and then again on whole 15. Not enough times.
The greens were in good condition
Greenside bunkers were hard. They needed more sand.

Shipyard has seen better days

Been coming to Hilton Head Island for many years. My wife and I owned a villa (condo) there for 7 of those years, and it was right on one of the 3 nine-hole Shipyard courses, Brigantine. Perhaps it’s the time of year (April), but this course is not in good shape. The fairways are patchy and I’ve seen the greens in much better condition. Think they might be pushing too many rounds through the course, but I do understand they’ve got to keep the business going. The course layout is challenging and the undulating greens are fast. We’ll be playing other courses on the island, so will have some comparison data.

Not the best

Course is in rough shape and staff treated us like we don’t know what we are doing. I’ve played my entire life (50 years).

Save your $$ for a better experience at another of the plentiful and wonderful courses in Hilton Head Island.

unfortunately we had to play cart path only. Very slow pace, long walks.

There is no on course distance markings which makes this format very challenging.

Shipyard 4/4/24

We had an issue with the cart on the 1st hole. It just stopped working. I tried all manner of things to get it going. Fortunately, our playing companions had an extra cart for a spectator and they let us take over that cart. I promptly called the pro shop through their many layers of choices and steps and reported the issue. Midway through the round someone from the pro shop road up and confronted us and basically accused us of leaving the cart and then claimed no called it in. We explained what happened but guy was all haughty and said the cart was working perfectly fine. Acted like he didn’t believe us. Then he accused us slow play ect. Kinda ruined the mood…

Greens were in good shape, tees ok, fairways little grass growing, hitting off hard pan mostly, wouldn't go back till late spring, way overpriced , $35 golf course. .

Score cards

The scorcards left a lot to be desired... there were no gold tees and the yardages on the blue and white were off on most holes making it very difficult to decide which set of tees to play.
