Greasy Course!!
Great course. Would definitely play again and recommend.
Shipyard is always a pleasure!
When we come to Hilton head we always want to golf at Shipyard.
Fairways were terrible… traps were hard as rock… not worth the 100.00 plus dollars we paid
Slow pace of play
Pace of play was fine for the first six holes. Holes 7 through 9 took an hour. Ultimately got disgusting and left, abandoning the last few holes, as the pace of play continued to drag. Riding back to the clubhouse I found that three consecutive holes were wide open. This has happened before at Shipyard. The course needs a ranger to keep play going at a respectable pace.
Cow pastuty
Staff was very friendly. Greens on gallon were good clipper were crap as were the fairways. Conditions were an as good as a muni course
Not the best
We checked in with a large group and it was very chaotic. The guys helping with the carts were great but the guy checking us in was awful and rude. We couldn’t get range balls without a hassle and they changed our course . It just did not feel like a good experience.
Average course for above average price
Course staff is friendly and professional. The course itself is challenging and fun. However, for $120.00 a round I would have expected the course to be in better shape. The greens were overall in good shape but some of the fairways were really rough. A little disappointing.
Briganteen and Galleon
Fun course with narrow fairways. Plenty of nature to look at. The green complexes were pretty rough on some holes (no grass on fringe) and the bunkers were pretty solid. Had shown up for three but was playing solo. Price included warm up balls etc. however the starter paired me with a tee time 15-20 min earlier than my start time so I wasn’t able to warm up and take full advantage of what was included. Greens were fairly fast and challenging.
For the price I paid, it was a decent deal. Will be a fun trek for the summer/late fall
Pace-pushing and course condition
I've played at Shipyard several times over the years. This round was disappointing for two reasons:
1. My playing partner and I were paired with a married couple, one of whom was obviously a beginning golfer. Not a problem in itself. We enjoyed their company and encouraged the beginner. However, the course ranger/marshal/ ambassador 3 times insisted that we pick up our pace of play, clearly delayed by our assigned playing companion, and beyond our control.
2. The course condition, except for greens, was pretty ragged, evidently from over-play. For the price (even the "discounted" post-2pm rate), this was disappointing.
On a positive note, the staff at the 19th hole were delightful, and the food is excellent.
Disappointing
Very poor fairway conditions!!
not happy about the driving range closed.
Saw the cart girl on hole three and then again on whole 15. Not enough times.
The greens were in good condition
Greenside bunkers were hard. They needed more sand.
