Rating 74.7

Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.

The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,

The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Course condition

The course is stil suffering from hurricane Matthew but the staff was very accommodating. I believe they realize the inconvenience the clean up is causing. They might want to offer some specials to get return players.

A bit overpriced

Course is only in fair shape. The greens are fine but the fairways need work. The pace of play was terrible. Got tired of waiting and walked off course after 11 holes. Two threesomes and our twosome stacked up on each hole and this was on a mid-afternoon start.

Good course, recommended!

Had a great time here. Course was in good condition for mid-March, and had a great layout. A little more challenging than I expected, but fair. Plenty of water and doglegs. Requires some thought off tee as driver can be too long on 2 or 3 holes unless you can reliably shape it. Mostly friendly staff. Did not eat at restaurant but ambiance was great and lots of patrons. Pro shop not overpriced like many. I paid $125 and feel it was worth it. Take a pic on 6.

Mixed review

Challenging layout with lots of bunkering around the greens. Greens were excellent. Fairways and tees were average at best. Off the fairway was either pine straw, leaves, or very dry hardpan.

I didn't really enjoy the course. High price even for the island.

Beautiful course

This was our first time playing in Hilton Head and the course was gorgeous. The hire clubs we were given were brilliant and staff lovely. The course itself was the right amount of difficulty and enjoyable.

Old facilities, slow play, good greens

This is an old course in need of an update. Facilities are marginal. Lots of trash on the course. Staff needs to do a better job keeping it up. Greens rolled true. 5:45 round of golf! Drink cart was nowhere to be found on the front 9.

Slow Play

I was playing in a twosome in the afternoon and we are good players (under 10 index). We paid for 9 holes and our round took 2 1/2 hrs. We were playing behind 2 twosomes. A high school team teed off 30 minutes behind us and caught up on the last hole, they were walking.

Oyster reef is a beautiful course, extremely well-maintained. Greens were super fast. Everyone that works there was super super friendly. We will definitely play there again.

Expected more

The course was good, but for the price and the recommendations, I expected more. Very typical dogleg, tight course
