Good layout, slow greens
The Robert Cupp course was originally designed with angled corners. Meaning, tees, fairways, bunkers and greens were square or rectangular. That has changed over the years, but there are some remaining examples. The course was wide open when I played (few people there). I joined up with 2 other Golfnow players. It had rained the day before but, as with other beach courses, it drained very well. The course design and playability is good, but the greens were so slow it made the experience lass than pleasant. I don't understand it. They are bermuda greens, in April! Why can't they cut the grass shorter. Anyway, the greens are in good condition, except for the speed. Come on, Brown Golf, you can do better.
Be sure you get a deal.....
Like all of the Heritage managed courses, prices at Palmetto Hall have increased tremendously. With an afternoon hot deal, it's a little closer to the value you will find.
Bunkers are better and greens were good; fairways dry and predominantly dormant. Many other courses are much greener. Decent driving range and excellent short game area around the corner.
Decent pace late day.
Sylman
Slow play we got stuck behind a slow group asked starter to get us thru didn’t happen , could have been handled by starter , as we were all waiting to tee off 1st tee. Much of green side grass dug up looks like some kind of animal damage , layout is fine greens were good shape with couple exceptions , but notTop dollar value
Coors had no drainage. I will never play there again.
Standing water in the Fairways, no grass around the greens
Good value for money
A good course, well laid out with difficult , challenging holes but overall well worth the price of admission compared with most other Hilton Head courses.
Fairly tight fairways and enough hazards for an average golfer to play cautiously or make sure you carry enough golf balls !
Challenging Couse
Had been playing very well at the three courses in my home community. This course put me in my place. Being a sweeper/picker of the ball the dormant fairways made in more difficult for me.
A Nice Round
Good place to play with Hot Deal time and discount. Normal rate has gotten high, but It's a course worth playing if you have a chance.
Greens were in excellent condition. Fairways were lacking grass but not unexpected for February. Even rolling the ball it was hard to avoid hitting of hard pan. It played better from the rough.
Enjoyable
Nice course, pace of play could have been a little faster. Would definitely come back.
Course not to be missed
The course was in good shape considering it is February, lots of water on the Cupp Course and lots of alligators to view fairly close, good value for money would play this course again
Cupp course
This course was a huge surprise to me. I was unsure about playing as the reviews said it was more difficult than the Arthur Hills that shares the property. It turned out to be a real treat. Challenging, definitely! Local knowledge would have been very helpful. Unfortunately most courses on Hilton Head don’t offer GPS which would be super helpful. But I’ve made a tee time to play it again! Really looking forward to that.
Nice Layout
The only issue I had as a first time player is that they don’t give you any information on all the water holes. They need to give “carry” yardage on the tee box.
We appreciate your playing with us and your feedback. You are correct in saying the greens are not quite as fast as we would like just yet but be assured they are well on their way! As the warm weather evenings are becoming consistent enough for our green to come out of their dormant state we can begin the process of firming, shortening, and grooming the greens to a faster speed while maintaining overall good health. As you can imagine this is not an overnight process. While mowing them a bit tighter would get us there quickly it can damage the greens and cause issues in weeks to follow. We want to make sure our greens are in good condition for the season.
We hope you will come back and see us over the next couple of weeks as we are only getting better everyday!
