Getting Better All The Time
The new ownership has gotten the course in very good shape. The greens are 100% better than they have been in a decade and will only get better and better. This golf course will be 5 star by next year, currently a 4 star. It is worth every penny as the ownership hasn't overpriced it. You will use every club in the bag as this layout is the best in east Orlando.
Food is good. Staff very friendly. Come play the "best course to be in east Orlando" in the very near future (the conditions will rival Bay Hill as the new owner spent a decade working in Spain on European PGA golf facilities and is an agronomy graduate from Michigan St)
Golf course in April
The pace of play was slow compared to other times I’ve played here. Partly because they are aerating the fairways now but that’s just maintenance. Also the bunkers were more topsoil instead of sand. Hopefully they will refresh the bunkers soon too. Greens are in good shape.
Good Course but not so good conditions
Wedgefield is a nice, moderately challenging course that is reasonably priced. However, except for the greens, the rest of the course is barren desert like! You can't find a decent patch of grass on the fairway to hit from so, you end up hitting your ball from sand, literally. They have to do something to better the fairway and tee box conditions. Heavy seeding/massive patching may be an idea:-)
Good layout that can get long
Pick your tees wisely. There are some short holes and some brutes. It's not a tight course but you can get in trouble easily in some places.
Everything was a bit dry, and the bunkers are pretty much dirt. A couple of tees were rough, but other than that, very playable.
Don’t bother
What a disappointment. Reviews at 4+ stars. Tees and fairways just awful. Greens good but slow. Areas around greens bare dirt. Layout is pretty good. At one time this was likely a great track but no more.
Interesting layout, rundown facilities
Had a really enjoyable round
Upsides:
The course is very interesting.
It offers a decent yet fair challenge
Very friendly staff
Quick speed of play
Very inexpensive
Downsides are:
The pro shop is very poorly stocked (seems the only brand of equipment that they carry is Srixon - so no last minute ProV1s etc)
The halfway house / bar only opens at 4pm (at least this was the case yesterday) - so don’t arrive hungry…
It is a little dried out and has some patchiness, but given the cost of playing it is definitely worth the money.
Groups of 7 and 9
Overall great experience besides running into two groups of 7 people and of 9 people all teeing off and not letting my twosome play through so every hole on the back 9 had a 15 minute wait to tee off.
Back Nine Start
Not sure why we started on back 9, but then when we got around to front there 3 foursomes that started on front 9. It became a cluster waiting. In addition, our cart died.
This course was really good fir the price..layout was good and challenging..some patchy areas but nothing terrible
Good Course
It was fun to play and the course is tough from the blues.
Great value for the price
Like the layout and greens were in very good condition. They do roll a little slower than some courses. Putting was good and true. A few of the greens have a lot of undulations and can be tricky. Positive: fairways had enough grass that you have good lies. Greens overall were in decent shape. Price was very good for course conditions. Negative: a few areas have been missed by the mower. The rough could be a little taller and thicker. Sand traps need to be turned over and raked daily.
Needs Work
One of the few tracks around that wasn't $60+ to play on the weekend. Our tee time was at 1:45 on a Sunday because we booked it late and there wasn't anything earlier available, but I think the AM times were only a few dollars more something like $46 + tax. We paid $44 total incl tax. So for the price it was good enough but it does need a little love. No rakes on the carts or by the bunkers and the sand was hard grey dirt. Greens weren't too bad but the tee boxes were a mess.
