Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
About
Faldo Championship Course at the Wildfire Golf Club measures as long as 6,846 yards, depending on which tees you're shooting from, and lies on 174 acres and features some differences from the average desert-themed golf courses. Faldo offers abundant fairways, big bentgrass greens and tee boxes, as well as the golf course's neighboring mountains, century-old saguaro cacti and 106 sand bunkers - which remind golfers of Aussie sand-belt golf courses, which gives it a magnificent locale for golfers.
Wildfire Golf Club is much-feted: When the Faldo Championship Course opened, the Arizona Republic selected hole No. 2 among the valley's 18 best. The golf course received recognition among the 2006 Travel & Leisure Golf's "World's Best Golf Resorts" for family getaways and in the 2006 Conde Nast Traveler rundown of the "Top 100 Golf Resorts in North America." These are in addition to the Gold Tee Award from Meetings & Conventions Magazine.

My wife and I played the Faldo course for the first time yesterday. We were warned by the friendly staff that it has something like 175 traps, and they all seemed well positioned to influence shot choices from tee to green. Also, it is set up for an LPGA event next weekend. It was in perfect shape and the greens were very fast. Overall, it is a tough but fair track where what you see is what you get. Not once were we surprised by something we couldn't see when we hit our shot. Also, carts have a good gps system that gives a clear view of the hole and related distances. Hole variety is good, with lots of par 5s and par 3s. The long ones were reachable from the blue tees, and the short par fours were well guarded. Overall, it seemed a bit short from the blues. If I were to play it again, I'd probably play from the back tees, and I suspect that would take many of the traps out of play for my 225-240 yard drives. Mountain views were good from many of the holes. In the end, this course was well worth playing, but not our favorite in the area, especially for a fairly high price.
Great course , good shape , nice views
It was well worth the money , great course , well kept , great service !
Nice course and friendly staff
I was a single golfer playing this course for the first time and the staff managed to put me with a 3 ball which was good as I hate playing on my own. Practice facilities are excellent and it's easy to warm up with range balls and putting greens. Golf buggy was equipped with a GPS system that worked well and gave accurate yardages. Pity it locked me out a few times when I was nowhere near the green!
It's a pricey course for sure but as long as you play conservative golf you will find it relatively easy to shoot par. Keep out of the bunkers as they are huge.
The course layout is OK but some of the pin positions were evil. I guess the Greenkeeper was in a bad mood that day.
