At Bear's Best, a 7,194-yard track about 20 minutes from The Strip, the Jack Nicklaus design team stuck to recreating holes from other Jack desert designs, making them actually almost fit into the natural surroundings. (Aside from the black sand bunkers and that's just so cool, you don't mind).

Plus, they made the fairways wide, giving your ordinary golfer a good chance to get through the day smiling. You won't post a career-low score at Bear's Best, but you won't lose four sleeves of balls, either.

Four of the holes are replicas from Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, but also features holes from Nicklaus' Spain and Mexico work. The best thing about Bear's Best may be how the Nicklaus team, often accused of making their courses too tough, kept the average hacker in mind.

Yet what really sets Bear's Best up as a great play is the service. Every foursome gets their own forecaddie and the staff can make you feel like a VIP.

"Bear's Best is probably the greatest overall experience we've had on a course," regular Las Vegas golf visitor Josh Isadore said. "The guys are still talking about it."

Bears Best is outstanding.

A long drive out the course it is on the far west side of the valley close to the mountains. Give yourself a good half hour from downtown or the strip.

Drove up to the bag drop area and a very pleasant guy welcomed us to the course, put our bags on the cart and took them to the range area, also the same guy came to the range and took us to the first tee at our tee time.

Checked in at the clubhouse for a 11:50 tee time, check in was quick, he found my reservation that was prepaid on golf now ($55 hot deal) welcomed us to the course and showed us out to the range.

The range was very large, nice putting green and practice area, made for a nice warm up.

We were a 2 some and they paired us with a couple other guys and it made for a nice pace of play. Every tee box had at least 4 sets of tees and we played from the white.

The fairways were in great shape and the greens were very smooth. The greens weren't too fast, but down hillers will get away from you if you dont pay attention. The sand traps were almost perfect, a little firm which to me is great. A couple greens had black sand which looked really good against the green grass. The rough wasnt too thick and you have to account for fliers. Every hole on the course was in great shape.

Pace of play was good, the round took about 4 hours and 15 minutes. There was a 5 some a couple groups ahead of us holding things up a bit but they were moving as quick as 5 can, so no complaint there.

This is a great golf course with a very pleasant staff and though the weather was a bit cool it was a great winter golf experience.

We got the hot deal at a good price but I would be glad to play at the normal golfnow price which is about $109 during the week. A top notch facility with a wonderful staff, Jack should be quite pleased at how well this place is run since his name is on it. Will be making this a normal stop on our Vegas trips.

Golf worth every penny.

First time to Bear’s Best Las Vegas with hopes of a Great round of golf and I was not disappointed.

Upon arrival, bag drop attendant cheerfully greeted us. Provided clear directions and took our bags to cart.

The pro shop was small and quaint, but not lacking in anything you might want or need for your golf game.

Practice range was in good shape, but the hitting stalls were packed and had to wait for a spot. Good thing all range balls were free.

It was also nice to see the junior golf teaching program in full effect, nurturing future golfers.

Everything awesome so far and I’m not even to the course yet.

The best part of the day was 18 holes of pristine maintained tee boxes, fairways and slick putting greens. (Running at least an 11).

The track is challenging, fun and beautiful all at the same time.

If you are looking for a great round of golf, don’t miss Bear’s Best. So far my favorite course in Las Vegas. Unless you can get onto Shadow Creek.

Great course and staff

Weather was terrible. 40kt winds and rain/hail 30s windchill. Hard rain after 8 holes and received rain check half dues. Staff was excellent.

Not for the faint of heart

This course is not set up for average golfers. There are no tee boxes between 5k and 6k yards, so the front nine was a major disappointment with one drive and one chip on. There should be a tee box in between. I played from the whites on the back 9 and enjoyed the course more.

Great course

For the money, I recommend it if you want a nice course that is well maintained. You can find cheaper ones that are just as nice but they won't be a Nicklaus course. Desert style course that can be difficult when windy (and it was windy for all 8 rounds we played that week).

Great course, really enjoyed it

Bears best is an excellent course. The holes are unique and it was fun to see where each hole was from. Great conditions, it was in excellent shape. Some tricky greens but they were a good challenge. They have a great practice area and pretty good food.

Scenic conditions

After hearing all the fabulous reviews about this course from previous trips, I was slightly disappointed after playing a round. The greens were bumpy, especially on the back nine. Average speed when compared to other courses in the area. Really disappointed to warm up on matts, especially in the chipping area when the grass looks like it’s ready for play. I can respect if the course is dry or winter conditions don’t allow for continuous driving range use but when the grass is green, healthy and ready for play, hard to justify to warm up on matts. Staff was friendly, helpful. Not sure I would play there again when there are other courses offering a far better Jack Nicklaus experience, especially for the price.

Nice course

It's a good course but they should create a hybrid scorecard between 6000 yards and 6600 as it will players more options. Also think the rough should be overseed so it looks nicer.

Interesting holes

Interesting set of holes.
Got behind a couple of groups that were together and seemed to connect back up at tees and greens slowing play for everyone. Eventually walked off on -6 as it passed back by the clubhouse because it was taking too long for the round.
