Lake Presidential Golf Club
About
Lake Presidential Golf Club is one of Maryland's most popular public courses. It is a challenging championship layout that is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels. It stands out from run-of-the-mill municipal courses with exceptional conditions from the tees to the greens. The layout offers a diverse mix of holes that will have golfers using every club in their bag. There are some especially interesting par 3s that are visible but with enough hazards to make them a challenge. Houses border the front nine holes but they are absent on the back nine. The fairways on the last nine holes are densely lined with mature trees. The golf course finishes with an enjoyable par 5 that plays over a lake. It can be reached in two with a little skill and accuracy.

Race to the Bottom
This Great course is racing to the bottom, not because it’s not a great course but due to poor management and poor decision making by the person(s) in charge .
For starters Aerating a course a week to a major two day tournament is bad business.
Aerating when the tournament is in progress is suicidal for any golf course not mentioning unethical any way you look at it.
This did happen during my three days of playing golf on this otherwise great course on October 8th, 10th and 11th 2023.
Truth be told I will never set foot on this course ever again in my golf life and not a dime of my money will go there directly or indirectly thanks to the course management.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused during your visit to our golf course. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration as we continue to improve our management and decision-making processes. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Aeration During a Two Day MSGA Tournament
Played at Lake Presidential for the Maryland Senior Open.
120 of the best golfers in Maryland converged on this “Great “PGA owned and operated golf course.
The course was recently Aerated, Informative that should have been conveyed to the major tournament organizers… for them to decide whether to hold the tournament there or not under those conditions.
On the first day of the tournament, Hole #11 was Aerated .To make matters worse on the second day of the tournament, Hole # 8 was being aerated as the tournament was going on…. The tour man organizers decided to have players skip the hole as it was not playable.
There has to be a really good reason to aerate a course during a major state tournament that escaped all the golfers and tournament organizers but was made business sense that was solely known by the course management.
One employee who has worked at the course for more than 30plus years could not pass judgement on that decision when questioned. Hats off to the decision maker for this outstanding disregard for paying golfers in the state.
I’m still reeling from the experience and will continue to do so for years to come. Hopefully never at Lake Presidential again…
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your experience at our golf course. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced due to the aeration of the course during the tournament. We appreciate your feedback and will consider it for future events.
Good Course for the money, very difficult.
Play here at least 3 times a year for last few years. Its in much better shape than previous years, i just wish they would work on pace of play. There must have been some tournament playing in front of the twilight golf when we showed up, and the participants were taking it very seriously, sometimes 3-4 minutes per shot to line up, practice and finally hit the ball.
Unbelievable
Maryland State Golf Association, the governing body for golf in Maryland held their Senior Open Championship there today. Granted, the booking of courses is made well in advance, and you cannot control the weather, but you can certainly control your maintenance schedule. Who schedules aerifying prior to and during a tournament? The tenth fairway was covered in plugs with equipment present. You would think they would want to showcase the course during an event like this to help promote the property. There were over 100 low-handicap amateurs, along with PGA professional golfers from clubs all over Maryland, participating. Word of mouth is a powerful part of advertising, and this maintenance scheduling mistake is not going to help increase daily fee play. SMH
Thank you for sharing your experience and feedback regarding the recent Senior Open Championship held at our golf course. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the maintenance schedule during the tournament and appreciate your insights, as well as your support in promoting our property.
Course in Poor Condition Greens and Fairways
Course was in bad shape. Recently aerated, Information that should have been mentioned at booking. Greens were horrible and not cut. Was practicing for a tournament there. Felt like it was total waste of time and money. Travelled an hour to the course. I could have played elsewhere for better value. Played with someone who paid $37.00 to my $91. 00 we were equally dissatisfied with the course condition. Obviously I spent more for same outcome.

Painfully slow, every time
First time i went here we had a 130pm tee time. Somehow they didn’t have enough carts and we were pushed back about an hour. We weren’t able to finish our round because the pace was so slow that it was pitch black by the 17th hole. The friend I went with said it was like that last time he went there, but both days were weekends so maybe that’s why. I thought surely coming in on a Wednesday morning on aeration day it wouldn’t be slow. We ended up leaving after six holes. Talking to the groups in front and behind us they were saying they hate coming here because of the slow play (they also thought it wouldn’t be busy because all the open time slots). This is a good course but they need to fix this.

Subpar
I had an 8:42 tee time for three to play 18 holes and arrived to be informed “if you want to play 18, you’ll have to play the front 9 twice” due to the back 9 being aerated. This would have been good information to have prior to arrival as we would have picked a different course. Not only that, but the 9 holes we did play TWICE was also in dreadful shape - fairways unmowed, bunkers that hadn’t seen a rake in weeks, and it had ALSO just been aerated, making the greens nearly unplayable. I understand that aeration takes precedence in this season, but just shut the course down if so little care is given to players during the process. The conditions of this course and the failure to tell us about the back 9 being closed left us felt like we were tricked into paying to play a course that was unprepared for golfers.

Bad Value
I pre-paid on Golf Now, and once I arrived, I was told only the front nine was open. The course was very wet with cartpaths only, and the greens were just aerated and unputtable. Once I made the turn, play was slow, with people being added in front of me. I need to play all 18 and thought the golf shop would accommodate and give me a rain check for the back nine at some off time. NOPE, and I was told to get my money back from Golf Now if I had a problem. Eisenhower and Compass Point are a better value.

Rip off
My guests and I have played here several times in the past. We brought a new guest and for his first time playing at LP it was disappointing. Embarrassing for me and disappointing to the new guest.
Upon checking in with the pro shop we were told the back 9 holes were being aerated and we were only allowed to play the front 9 twice. No where on their website did they mention this.
We reach hole #1 and it was discovered that it to had been freshly aerated and sanded. Every hole was like this.
The drainage is extremely poor and between us we lost 4 golf balls from plugging in the middle of the fairway! Lost!
We finish 9 holes and go grab a hotdog from the bar. NO food! The worst money I've ever spent. I tried to find a phone number to golfnow to cancel and get a refund but was not able to find the contact info. Horribly run golf course.
I played Wednesday too, considereing a tropical storm had just hit the area 2 days prior, I was expecting a lot worse…. To each their own I guess.
Good course conditions
Course was in good shape, tee boxes need some care, greens were above average, but almost every hole I repaired 2-3 ball marks. Staff was a little overwhelmed and not very courteous. If you can get a $50 rate here then play it.

Disgraceful Customer Service
I hope this place changes it's outlook on serving customers because it could be a great option. Unfortunately, it seems the staff is only interested in collecting their greens fee and kicking you out the door.
Background, I had a 6:45 tee time on a Friday morning. My playing partner and I moved through the first 9 in about an hour and 35 min. As we were on hole 11, we noticed about 20 carts go by. Once we hit the tee box on 12, it was apparent that the course had an event scheduled. Oddly enough, it appears that the course set up a shotgun start, beginning on hole 12 (no idea why...), which was certainly not mentioned to us upon paying. Standing on the tee box, we waited about 15 minutes before deciding neither of us would make it to work if we waited on the scramble event the entire rest of the way.
Given the amount of waiting time we had apparently signed up for, myself, the individual I was paired with, and the single behind us, all went to the clubhouse for a rain check. The gentleman working the clubhouse said their policy for leaving early was a $25 refund. No mention of the event, no acknowledgment that they shouldn't have offered tee times before the event. Just a completely unreasonable response to a problem they themselves created. Can I afford an over-priced 9-hole rate? Annoying, but yes of course. The principle this place apparently operates on is shameful. I hate to take an "eye for an eye" outlook, but these are the type of places that *should* see a loss of customers. So many courses out there do it the right way, not this one.

beautiful course
This in one of, if not the best course in the washington dc area, "DMV". There were so many good holes, it keeps you engaged at all times. One can play this course 3-4 times per week and not get bored. I've played most of the nicer courses in the area and this one is top 3. Many courses have 4-6 nice holes, but lake presidential has 13-14 excellent holes. Go play it, you'll not be disappointed .
Lake Presidential Golf Club
This journey starts with some heavy rain the morning of our tee time. Due to the traffic I called Adam at the Pro Shop to tell him we were running a little behind. No problem since the rain chased away most of other golfers. The course was wet so cart path only which made for a lot of walking up and down some big hills. I felt bad for some of the older golfers having to deal with the wet terrain. The course is pretty challenging due to the
narrowness of the fairways. I haven't lost that many balls in a while. I blame swinging harder due to no rolling on the fairway. I can't wait to play it on a dry day. Hole 18 is amazing. One dig on the Golfers that play there please fix your divots on the greens and fairways. Replace the beaver pelts or use the sand on the cart. Also pick up your trash!

2 people running the whole thing
No starter
No Marshall to be found
No water
Sloooooooow pace of play (first 9 holes 3 hrs)
Not worth $30-40 in my opinion.
