Great course
First of all. Staff in pro shop were very helpful and welcoming. Giving great service.
Fairways immaculate and greens are good.
Greens are fast which I like... not bumpy as other reviews say.
Overall a great challenge for anyone’s game par 3’s are difficult aswell.
Excellent course well worth the money!
Everything was excellent bar the greens
Fairways were absolutely immaculate, course was in great condition however the greens were very poor!
It looks like they have been doing some work to the greens and were therefore long and very bobbly.
However for £15 we were able to put that to the back of our minds as the rest of the course was fantastic.
Buggy definitely needed as it is a resort course, I’m a fit 24 year old and was struggling the last two holes
Great for the time of year....
Course was empty... In great condition considering the time of year. Greens has been scarified so a little bumpy, but good overall
Course condition
The course was flooded at several holes and overall the course was unplayable but still charged £18
Great but disappointed
Played the course a few times and loved it.. how massively disappointed that on arrival I could see course was flooded and only a few holes where playable. Could get across bridge to play 5th, 6th and 7th. Understanding as recent weather causing river to burst banks in some areas.. would be very helpful if updates on course conditions where live before booking. Waste of the one person fee. Understand that pandemic is causing issue but for some to have a look in morning and update would take to much time or hassle. Definitely booking to lay again but not just now.
Greens in abysmal state
The state of the greens absolutely ruined the days play, brown, dry and with cracks throughout. This really spoiled an otherwise nice course.
We also found it difficult to navigate the course as it was our 1st time playing and there was a real lack of signage showing the way to the next tee.
Still Tricky
Hadn't played Cardrona for a long time but for £15 on a Fri I headed out.
You need to avoid rough here at all costs, if you can't hit it straight, better hitting a five iron than a wood.
Fairways good; greens?....well I'll come back to those.
This is a huge course and as far as I know there are currently only two, possibly three greenkeepers employed. I've experience in this field and would say the guys must be maxxed out. Quite a challenge tending a course this size with so few staff.
However, will cut some slack as every pennies a prisoner for the Hotel industry at the moment. Maybe if MacDonald hotels hadn't let their club membership die a death by a thousand cuts over several years they would be reaping the rewards that most other clubs are during Pandemic Pandemonium currently.
Back to the greens. I coped as I'm a decent putter but oh my, they are in a sorry state. Scorched, cracked, patchy( I'm not talking about my scalp)
The irrigation system is either out of use or in disrepair it seems; funding issues no doubt and the course really does need some rain. And it did lash it down when I was out.
I hadn't played the course for about five years and I must say I did enjoy it but for the pace of play. I was on foot and really taking my time, Playing "two ball better ball" because the groups in front were just sooooo slooooow. Even with buggies.
Hopefully will get back out when the course is a bit greener again
Cracking course
Lovely course along the banks of the tweed. Some challenging holes and tricky bunkers.
Staff very helpful.
Some excellent wildlife around the course too.
Good experience
Overall a good experience. Greens need attention but fairways in excellent condition. Good test.
Great day
We had a great day at Cadrona. The course was a bit boggy in some areas but only to be expected in the middle of October. Course layout is brilliant. Would recommend a buggy as course is really long.
Below standards
Played the course several times over a few years and it is gradually getting into worse condition.
The greens were very very poor and bunkers worse
I’m aware current Climate makes it hard but even then still Well below The expected. Level
Extreamly Poor.
Played today and very wet under foot Greens are in very poor condition with weed growth, bare patches and pitting - ball bounces along the green rather than roles, see better greens at the fairground and public putting greens at the sea side.
Bunkers are beyond repair over growing with weeds and grass. Fairways recently cut as there were lots of grass cutting all over. Even with Covid and lock down this course is in extremely poor condition.
Waited for coffee prior to tee off however it never arrived.
Long drive from Glasgow for golf day out and very disappointed
The MacDonald resort web page parts a very different story to the reality of the day. Deffo won't be back
Golf trip to the Borders
We had played Glencourse and Peebles on previous days and chose this one to finish off as it was listed as a championship course. I accept that staffing and maintenance of the course during Covid-19 must be challenging but both of our other 2 courses were delightful (and less expensive) and were in very good condition. It has a very picturesque layout but not having played it before we found signposting around the course lacking (several places we took a wrong turn to the next tee). The fairways had clumps of recently mown grass; the bunkers had not been racked for some time and some had plastic sheeting showing through and clumps of grass growing; many of the greens were in poor condition with large areas of bare patches making it almost impossible to putt.
Cardrona golf
Magnificent setting course enjoyable unfortunately greens were terrible and bunkers were a jungle (plenty off them edges uncut for months lost a few balls in the bunkers)
