Aberdour Golf Club, in Fife, is located 30 miles south of St. Andrews, on the shores of the River Forth. Aberdour was founded in 1896 but didn't start developing a golf course at its current location until 1905. Starting as a nine-hole course, the other nine were added in 1914. Today, the 18 holes cover 5,460 years, spread over land overlooking sea cliffs and on raised beaches.

If you have a habit of slicing, Aberdour won't be a day at the beach. It rewards those who shoot straight and long. A number of holes even run along the River Forth, with views of Edinburgh across the way.

The course begins with two par 3s, not that it's an easy start. The first hole, named Bell House, is 155 yards from an elevated tee down to a rocky promontory. The second, named Firs, is 155 yards, starting from a rocky platform and shooting across a bay to an elevated green set into a steep hillside. The longest hole is the 10th - Ash Tree - the only par 5, 513 yards, starting with a slight dogleg from right to left. If you can get off a good second shot past the marker, you're left with a straight pitch.

Aberdour Golf Club welcomes visitors throughout the year. Tee reservations for parties can be made directly with the club manager. Starting times are 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Sunday times are 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Visitors are not accepted on Saturdays. The course has a clubhouse overlooking the River Forth and the Riverside Lounge.

Short but challenging

In a Scottish golfing week, Aberdour was a nice interlude between challenges at Carnoustie, Scotscraig and Kittocks. It's challenging nonetheless, but its length is just a little less than some of its longer cousins. The first three holes have spectacular views.

Very scenic

Unfortunately due to weeks of heavy rain it was very wet and slippery in places, consequently a few winter greens however the scenery means we will be back in summer to see it at its best

Stunning views

If you get the weather like we did, this place is pretty special. After a lot of rain, course was in great condition. It’s a short course, you can score well here with many reachable par 4’s. Play can be a bit slow because of this, but with the views it’s such a bad thing.

A well laid out course with great variety of holes

We played a three ball on Sunday morning. The course still had some winter greens and we had to play with mats off the fairways but it was still an enjoyable round with great views over the Firth of Forth.

A gem of a course

This is a lovely course to play.stunning views.greens were in very good condition considering its january.
Iv played lots of courses and the gentleman in the pro shop today was the most friendly and helpful person.
The guy even phoned me in the morning to let me know there were a couple of winter greens and it was off matts.
Iv never had that as a guest before.
So top marks to aberdour and i will be back to play again.

Stunning views and some great wee holes

Highly recommend this course but like most courses in Scotland go on a nice sunny day. It’s sheltered from the wind if the winds blowing towards Edinburgh.
The first few holes are breathtaking.
And the rest of the course is also good.
Fairways and greens good, in fact to be fair, very good in general.
It’s got to be pushing towards my top 10 courses and I play in St Andrews area so that’s saying something. It’s a hidden gem.
Lots of Par 3 holes and it’s a pretty short course which suits me as I am a mid handicap golfer.

Fantastic value and quality course

The course is set in a spectacular piece of coastline, the course is superb and is clearly maintained to a very high standard, I've paid another more for lower quality courses. You will not regret trying aberdour I will certainly be back when time allows.

Some nice holes

For mid November the course was in good condition and those greens that were in play were good also.
It was a bit disappointing that there were three winter greens in play that shortened the holes and one temporary tee that just about halved the length of one hole. I guess this should be expected at this time of year, but it would have been good to know this before we booked.
Some holes are very attractive and some are very challenging. Definitely intend to come back and play the full course closer to the summer.

Breathtaking views with superb coffee

Don't just turn up and play golf. Spend time in the clubhouse and take in the stunning scenery over the forth estuary. Homemade sausage rolls and cakes absolutely gorgeous. Best coffee ever had at a golf club!! Oh the golf course pretty good too with some challenging/scenic par 3s. A little bit of wind and rain didn't spoil a fantastic afternoon.
